One day, Saneko had woken up late on a Saturday morning. She was still disappointed that she had nothing to watch for the time being. It's what she normally looked forward to most on the weekend, but now she was just in a state of constant boredom.
Rubbing her eyes and getting out of bed, she decided that, instead, of watching one of her favorite shows, she would instead argue with people online about why the power fantasy subgenre is the best out there, and nothing can compare. She sat on her chair and opened up her laptop. She started looking up one of her favorite shows.
"It's been awhile since I've thought about 'Fire Magic Trumps All!'. I wonder what people online think about it."
Once she pressed enter, she scrolled on her touchpad, looking through various websites until she found a link that said, "Why 'Fire Magic Trumps All' is the worst anime ever made."
"WHAT? HOW CAN ANYONE WATCH THAT SHOW AND NOT PUT IT IN THEIR TOP 10 AT BARE MINIMUM?"
Feeling absolutely enraged by this anonymous user's claim, she clicked on the link, taking her to a forum post about why the show sucked. She only read the first sentence and then decided that she wasn't reading all of that. She scrolled down to the comment section and started typing as fast as she could. She spoke to herself aloud as she typed what she was mumbling.
"F*** you, you stupid b****! You don't know s*** about anything you r******* piece of d**s***!"
Saneko would always take this stuff very personally. She continued writing as many insulting words as she could, clearly not hiding the fact that she was seething over this. She pressed the enter key angrily and sat back in her seat. This forum was from five years ago, so there was a very low chance that anyone would respond, but it didn't matter. She couldn't tolerate people disrespecting such immaculate writing.
"They better not cross me. I'll teleport to their rooms and show them the true power of Demon Babe, just like I did to that one guy!"
Despite saying that, she was too anxious to step away from her computer. What if someone responded in just a few seconds? She sat up straight and pressed the refresh button, but there was obviously no new comment. That didn't stop her though. She continuing pressing it over and over. After doing so for quite a while, she looked at the clock and realized that she should probably go down for breakfast as it was already almost noon. She groaned and stood up, taking a few steps away, but she couldn't let it go.
"AGH! THEY COULD RESPOND AT ANY TIME!"
She immediately ran back to her seat and continued pressing the refresh button. She didn't even realize that the account she responded to was last online a year ago. It didn't matter. There was always the chance that they would return.
There was a knock on her door, and Mrs. Sarakana walked in.
"Hello. Aren't you going to eat breakfast?"
"NOT NOW MOM! I'M DOING SOMETHING FAR MORE IMPORTANT!"
"Hmm? Are you chatting with online friends? Oooh, it's like pen pals. My little girl is gaining so many new friends."
"They aren't my friends mom! They are my mortal enemies!"
"Oh don't be like that. Anyway, don't you have homework too?"
"Homework?"
Saneko didn't remember any homework. Anetop Academy usually just had one lesson a day, and that was it. There was never really any room for homework.
"I don't think I do."
"Your teacher left an email, saying that every student had to record how many pushups they could do on a sheet of paper. The email said that the teacher is trying to see how strong each HRS student is when they are amplifying their magic. Didn't they tell you this in school?"
Saneko turned around in her chair to face her mom.
"No. I don't remember that."
But they did indeed say that. Saneko was just too busy thinking about how she looked staring out of the window. She never got tired of that. She didn't really get tired of anything.
"Well, you should do it anyway. I don't want you to fail now."
"How are they even supposed to verify if I actually did it or not? It sounds like I can just write any number on the paper and they'll believe it."
"Maybe, but, for example, no one would believe me if I said I did 100 pushups. I think doing it legit will keep people from being suspicious. But to be fair, I don't even have magic."
"Yeah but neither do I."
"Saneko, you've been in school to learn magic. You're telling me you haven't learned any at all?"
If you discover this tale on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen. Please report the violation.
"I already told you I haven't. It's not like they teach anything anyway. They just have us do stuff to see how well we can use our magic, but as we've already discussed, I HAVE NONE!"
"Don't get loud with me."
"Sorry mom."
Saneko looked away, trying not to get grounded again. Despite Mrs. Sarakana usually threatening Saneko with punishments, even she had a soft spot for her daughter's pouts.
"AWWW! SO CUTE! I JUST WANNA SQUEEZE YOUR FACE SOMETIMES!"
Mrs. Sarkana ran up to Saneko and started pulling her cheeks, which made her extremely uncomfortable.
"AH MOM! STOP IT!"
Letting go, Mrs. Sarakana giggled to herself and began leaving while waving.
"Alright, but I still want you to come down for breakfast after you finish your homework. We'll talk about your lack of magic later."
Saneko groaned again, looking back over at her computer screen. She really didn't want to do homework, especially now, when someone could respond to her at any time. But just then, it hit her. Record as many pushups she can do? This would be the perfect opportunity to show off!"
She refreshed the computer one last time, and when seeing no response, she got out of her chair and dropped to the floor as she began doing pushups. Once she began, within an instant, her body was just a blur because of her immense speed. In just two seconds, she had done two septillion pushups, but she continued. The thing was, Saneko never got tired. She got bored all of the time, which led to a feeling of exhaustion that allowed her to sleep, but her body was physically incapable of getting tired. She could theoretically continue doing pushups forever, but as her mom said, that would be a bit farfetched. After 30 seconds, she stood up and wiped off her forehead even though she wasn't sweating.
"Okay, that should be believable."
She took out a piece of paper. Thankfully, she had been counting every single pushup, so she knew the exact number she had done. She got her pen and started writing. After she had finished writing, she held out the page in front of herself, reviewing the number she had written.
"sixty septillion. There we go. Not too high, but still high enough for the teacher to notice how awesome I am! Although, I think it's still pretty low. Kinda pathetic honestly. Oh well, I'll have plenty of time to prove my true powers."
She placed the paper back down and closed her laptop.
"ALRIGHT MOM! I'M GOING DOWN!"
She left her room. Too bad she closed her laptop right when she got a notification.
Walking into the kitchen, she looked over at her dad, sitting on the ground and petting Dyinglight. A smirk appeared on Saneko's face as she thought about how perfect this was.
"Heh. First mom, and now dad. I really do get to have a cat without doing anything at all."
While it seemed selfish, it wasn't really her cat anymore anyway. She rarely paid attention to it. Regardless, Saneko continued walking and sat down at the breakfast table. She wasn't really craving cereal today, even though it was the easiest to make.
"Hmm. Should I go for something classic like pancakes?
Upon hearing her speak to herself about pancakes, Mr. Sarakana stood up, leaving Dyinglight there on the ground.
"I heard you talking to yourself, and color me surprised. I never thought the day would come when you'd eat anything other than cereal for breakfast.
"What? Do you think I can't try anything new or something?"
"Well even you must admit that it's rare. Anyway, what would you like to eat?"
"Why do you care?"
"Because, this is momentous occasion!"
"You're exaggerating."
Mrs. Sarakana walked up and noticed that Saneko still wasn't eating anything.
"Aren't you going to eat something Saneko."
"Yeah, but I don't know what."
"Well, you always eat cereal don't you?"
"I'm just not in the mood for that today."
"WHAT? THIS IS A MOMENTOUS OCCASION!"
With a sigh, Saneko stood up. She didn't even know if the ice cream shop had gotten new employees yet, but it most likely did considering the fact that there were tons of low ranking cultivators who could only get jobs like that.
"I'm just going to get a banana smoothie."
As she began to walk away, Mr. Sarakana tugged on her sleeve.
"Not so fast."
"Ugh. What now?"
With his free hand, he pointed over to Dyinglight who had walked over to its bowl and was eating out of it.
"That was the last of the cat food. You need to get more."
Saneko couldn't believe this was happening. Yes, she agreed to getting the cat food, but she never thought that the day would actually come, especially considering how her parents took care of the cat most of the time.
"B...b...but my banana smoothie..."
"You can get it tomorrow. You won't have enough money today. It would be best if you just ate a normal breakfast."
Saneko's lips quivered in sadness. She would absolutely never show this side of herself to anyone else besides her parents for obvious reasons, but she was distraught at the idea of having to wait even longer.
Seeing her pout again caused both Mr. and Mrs. Sarakana to let out an "Aww", but they both shook their heads, trying to remain strong.
"Sorry Saneko. I'll make you something to eat if you don't want to make anything yourself, but you'll still have to get the cat food later."
She clenched her fists into tight balls of frustration. She sniffled, trying to stay in control of her emotions. She placed another seal in her mind like she did before, still knowing what would happen if she let all of her emotions out.
"I don't want anything anymore."
She was being as stubborn as she possibly could. Her parents watched her as she walked off to her room like she always did. Mr. Sarakana sighed, not liking to see Saneko upset, but she had to learn somehow. He still found it upsetting to see her resort to hiding in her room every time.
"She stays in her room way too much."
"Yeah, it's probably unhealthy."
They weren't ones to talk, considering they stayed in their house all day as well. Mrs. Sarakana got a vibration on her phone and took it out of her pocket. She squinted at the screen, clearly not being able to read. Mr. Sarakana walked over to a table and picked up her glasses before handing them to her."
"Oh, thank you."
She put them on and read the notification.
"Oh, I have a job!"
"It's been awhile since you've gotten a client."
"I know! I'm excited!"
Mrs. Sarakana had a lot of passion for her job. She really wished it was fulltime because it's something she genuinely enjoyed doing. She immediately ran to her own room as well. Saneko, despite being in her bedroom, could overhear what had just happened. A devious thought crossed her mind.
"Mom usually enforces the rules, so I bet I can get dad to change his mind if I act sweet enough."
She opened the door and ran up to him, catching him by surprise a bit.
"Oh, you have already calmed down?"
Saneko put her hands behind her back, trying to look as innocent as possible.
"Yes. It's because, I really wanted to say sorry for acting so badly. I know I was being disrespectful, and I hope you can forgive me."
"Well of course I can!"
Hearing him say that made Saneko hopeful that this would actually work.
"Yes! My plan is working!"
Her dad looked over to the empty bag of cat food and pointed at it.
"Can you go and get the cat food now though?"
"DAMN IT!"
