Chapter 41

Saneko was lounging on the couch, switching through the TV channels with the remote in her hand. She had switched back into her lazy clothes, trying to get as comfortable as possible. She was still grateful for her dad's intervention, and due to the fact that she looked like she had gone through enough torment via boredom, her dad didn't punish her. Despite being happy about that, she was still upset that she had nothing to watch, which mattered the most to her right now.

Her mom stepped foot into the living room, and Saneko automatically assumed that she was mad at her for staying out late again. She groaned and put the remote down.

"Before you say anything, dad already said I didn't have to be punished, so please don't make a big deal out of this."

"Oh, don't worry. He told me that you were out with some girls your age. You know how much I love seeing you play with your friends."

"They aren't my friends. And besides, why didn't you act this way when I got in trouble the first time? I was actually having fun that time."

"I just assumed you teleported. Wait, don't tell me you teleported again!"

Saneko rolled her eyes exasperatedly and leaned back into the couch.

"Please can we just drop this for now?"

"Alright, fine. Only because I already had something that I wanted to talk to you about."

"I have a bad feeling about this."

"I already told you that I would talk to you about this."

"What is it?"

"Your lack of magic."

Saneko scratched her head in frustration. It didn't matter how many times she tried to argue with her mother about this, she took the same position each time, so Saneko decided that she wouldn't argue back.

"Fine. But what are you going to do about it?"

"Well, if you can't find any magic abilities within yourself, I will start having to limit your TV viewing time."

"It's not like I have anything to watch anyway. I already binged a show awhile back, and since then, I've had nothing to watch."

"Alright, then I guess I'll have to limit your intake of banana smoothies instead."

"WHAT?"

At that moment, Saneko wished she didn't say anything about not having anything to watch.

"I hate seeing you upset, I really do, but having magic in this world is super important. We've been over this. Yet you still haven't been able to learn a single magical ability. It's like you can't cultivate anything."

"Neither can you mom."

"Yeah, which further proves my point. I don't even have a fulltime job. I want you to succeed in this world. I'm doing this because I care about you."

"This world cares about powers, not cultivation."

"Then why does everyone only talk about cultivation then?"

"Because that's the only way most humans can get powers!"

"Sounds like a stretch."

"Ugh!"

Saneko facepalmed. She didn't even know how she was supposed to learn cultivation, but she knew that she better learn soon or else she would have another limit on her banana smoothie intake. It's almost like the world was against her drinking those things.

"Fine. If it'll make you happy, I'll give it a shot."

"Thank you!"

Mrs. Sarakana patted Saneko's head affectionately. Saneko immediately swatted her mom's hand away though.

"So feisty. Well anyway, when you go to school, make sure to focus in class as hard as you can."

As she walked away, Saneko shook her head. As she previously explained, the school never actually taught cultivation. Lower ranking students were taught it, but it was assumed that, if you were in the HRS class, you were already a high ranking cultivator.

"How the hell am I even supposed to do this? It's not like I can just learn it."

Saneko started to think really hard. She usually wouldn't care to do this, but too much was on the line. She knew it wouldn't be as simple as just going to school and listening to what the teacher was saying. There had to be another way. She continued to think to herself, closing her eyes to concentrate.

"Come on! There has to be someway to cultivate at least a little magic! How can I do it quickly?"

Cultivation wasn't a quick process, but Saneko already broke the rules of the world by just existing, so in her mind, anything should be possible for her, and in her defense, she wasn't entirely wrong. As she thought to herself, she remembered an interesting fact. A fact that pretty much everyone in the world was taught nowadays. Cultivation was discovered by a shaman in Mongolia.

The tale has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.

"YES! THAT'S IT!"

Figuring that if there was anyone who could help her, it would be him, she decided to focus while closing her eyes as tightly as possible, using her clairvoyance to find him. She hated asking for help, but she would make up for it by showing off to him. What could be more cool than showing off to the person who literally discovered something that changed the world in such a fundamental way?

"There he is. Found him."

Saneko teleported away from the couch. Mrs. Sarakana walked back into the living room just a few seconds later.

"You know what, I feel bad for getting upset with you so much. I was thinking I would get you a banana smoothie to make it up to you. Wait... where did you go?"

Saneko reappeared inside the shaman's yurt. The old man's eyes flew open in shock, and he scrambled backwards, knocking over a small table of herbs and talismans. Looking up to see her demon horns only made him more confused.

"Who—what are you?"

Of course, the shaman spoke in Mongolian, but Saneko already knew every language perfectly, so she could understand him. She pointed to him, causing him to flinch.

"I am Demon Babe! I am aware that you are the man who discovered cultivation, and I am here to learn from you. But only to compare my own powers to yours!"

She couldn't ask for help without fabricating the truth a little bit.

The shaman blinked rapidly, trying to process the sudden appearance of this strange girl.

"Cultivation? I... well... let me see here."

The shaman put his hand to his eye and used Reader. Upon seeing the same ERROR Ms. Kay did, he inhaled sharply. Putting his hand back down, he tried to regain his composure.

"Why do you need to learn? Your power has broken the system of cultivation already."

"... Huh?"

As we all know, Saneko wanted to be recognized by absolutely everyone, but she didn't expect the shaman to recognize her power that quickly. She was used to everyone else making excuses for her powers.

"I uh... YES! YOU ARE CORRECT! But as I said, I only wish to learn from you to compare your weak magic to mine."

The shaman hesitantly nodded and pointed to the floor across from himself. Despite being quite afraid of Saneko's power, he managed to control his fear. He also knew something else. Saneko may have broken the ranking system, but that didn't mean she had any cultivated magic. He was very wise and could read people easily. Saneko wasn't really hard to read anyway though, so this wasn't the best example.

Saneko sat down in front of him, crossing her legs on the ground just as he did.

"Well first of all, I want you to close your eyes and meditate. Attempt to empty your mind. It is the first step of harnessing the power that lies within you."

Saneko didn't really pick up on the fact that he obviously knew she didn't have any cultivated magic. Instead, she did what he said.

"Alright then."

She closed her eyes, attempting to empty her mind. She pushed the thoughts that were in her mind aside to completely clear it, but one thing stuck in her mind. Something that caused her heart to sink.

"HOLY CRAP! I'M WEARING MY LAZY CLOTHES IN FRONT OF THE F****** SHAMAN!"

He tilted his head upon seeing Saneko with a look of distress on her face. She was jittering violently.

"Is something wrong?"

Saneko opened her eyes and turned around, before vomiting on the floor.

"WHAT HAPPENED?"

She turned back around and wiped her mouth.

"I... I... I AM UNDERCOVER!"

"Huh?"

Before she knew it, she was now on top of a mountain with the shaman, looking down over the beautiful landscapes. The shaman patted Saneko's back. She had a look of embarrassment on her face from what happened just a few minutes ago.

"Don't worry. I can read you better than you can read yourself. I am already aware of the fact that you have never cultivated any magic whatsoever."

"Huh? Insolent mortal! I have more power than you could ever believe!"

"Please do not try and fool me. I know your powers are immense, I already told you that. But cultivation is a different matter."

"Perhaps, but my powers truly are greater than yours regardless!"

"Okay. I suppose the may be the case."

"... Don't you wanna see?"

"No, not really."

Saneko pouted and crossed her arms, looking away from the shaman.

"Either way, if you truly want to learn how to cultivate magic, you must do as I say."

Saneko sighed. She couldn't believe that this guy figured her out so quickly.

"Alright, fine. But the meditation stuff is so lame and boring."

There was no point in keeping up her Demon Babe persona around him anymore since he already saw through her. He was just an old man anyway, so it didn't matter, or at least that's how she tried to rationalize it.

"Well, I'm afraid you'll have to."

"Ugh. I thought it was just about training or something."

"It is, but that comes later. You must first find the powers that lie within your soul."

"I don't have a soul."

"Very dark, but I'm being serious here."

"I am too. There was this one time when I was five years old, when a fortune teller who could read souls tried to read mine to see my future, and his face turned pale when he realized that I literally had none."

The shaman gave her a worried look. His expression made Saneko's cocky personality come back a little bit as she smirked and put her hands on her hips.

"Ah, so you fear me now don't you?"

The shaman shook his head and looked back to where he was looking earlier, staring off into the distance.

"In any case, you must at least try to meditate."

Saneko clicked her tongue and shook her head, really not wanting to meditate.

"Just, give me a potion or something. Isn't there easy ways to learn to cultivate in this day and age?"

"Heh, I'm afraid not. But either way, it shouldn't be that hard. Children learn abilities all of the time. I know you can learn abilities very quickly if you put your mind to it. One of the easiest powers a human can cultivate is the ability to use fire. You should try and-"

"Oh, that's easy!"

"Patience. It takes time to-"

Saneko reached her arm out to the sky and fired a blast of fire so powerful that it parted the clouds. The shaman looked up, and his mouth dropped. The blast traveled through the vacuum of space at faster than light speeds, destroying a star many lightyears away.

As the they watched the blast quickly disappear into the sky, Saneko stuck her nose in the air, feeling puffed up with pride.

The shaman shook his head and looked back at Saneko.

"I must admit, that was quite the impressive blast. However, I sensed absolutely no magic."

"Well duh, but why does it even matter? I already have powers, why do I have to do this crap? Just to get a job that I'll probably hate anyway?"

"Oh, powers are the requirement for most jobs. Not necessarily cultivated powers. You should be fine in that department."

"THAT'S WHAT I TOLD MY MOM!"

"Ah, so your mom is the one who wants you to learn cultivation."

Saneko didn't answer. She just glanced away, but her silence spoke for itself.

"Listen. If you ever wish to learn any form of cultivation, come back here. Until then, I will not push you."

"You don't understand. If I don't learn to cultivate anything, I'll get my favorite thing taken away from me!"

"Well, I'm sure it can't be that bad. What exactly is your favorite thing?"

Saneko immediately responded without any hesitation.

"Banana smoothies."

"Oh, I love banana smoothies."

"REALLY?"

The two then had an hour long discussion about why banana smoothies were the best drink known to man. As you can see, Saneko was very passionate about learning cultivation.
