As the sun rose over an ordinary Monday morning in the year 4062. People, all over the world, were going to their 9-5s or heading to school for the day. The day was blander than usual, as if nothing important would happen all across the globe. Everyone had unreadable expression on their faces, too bored to let out a smile or a frown.
Cars flooded the highway streets with drivers who were half-awake. Others were on buses, trains, and subways, scrolling through their phones or drinking from a thermos of coffee.
On this bland and ordinary day no one spoke a word. It was silent except for the sounds of vehicular transportation and birds singing. However, as if it were a shockwave through space and time itself, every living creature, young and old, felt a tremble down in their core.
People looked at each other frantically, trying to read the expressions of one another to see if anyone else felt the strange feeling deep within themselves. Although no word was spoken, it was evident by everyone's expressions that they all had experienced the same feeling.
In the delivery room at Cintianta General Hospital, the doctor's eyes were wide with a mix of shock and awe, as he too felt the tremble deep within himself. He took a look at the baby girl he had just helped deliver. The newborn seemed to have crimson red demon horns protruding from her forehead.
"W...what the hell?"
The doctor carefully examined the horns. They appeared to be made of a bone-like substance and were firmly attached to the baby's skull. He slowly reached his hand over to touch the horns in an attempt to investigate further, his hand trembling as he did so. But right before he could touch them, the baby began to levitate.
The doctor gasped and took a step backwards as he saw the baby floating through the air. His heart was beating rapidly and he was unable to form a coherent sentence.
The mother of the child, Mrs. Sarakana, who was still laying on the hospital bed, tilted her head in confusion upon seeing the doctor's reaction.
"What's wrong? Is there something wrong with the baby?"
The doctor was shocked that Mrs. Sarakana seemingly didn't even notice the floating baby. Without uttering a word, he pointed upwards, towards the floating baby. Mrs. Sarakana squinted her eyes and looked towards where the doctor was pointing.
"What is it? I forgot my glasses, so I can't see what you are pointing at."
The doctor shook his head and immediately ran out of the delivery room. The father, Mr. Sarakana, was sitting patiently right outside of the room. He turned to see the doctor who had gone pale from shock.
"Hey. Is everything alright."
The doctor turned to face Mr. Sarakana and shook his head no vehemently. Mr. Sarakana stood up immediately with a worried look on his face.
"What's wrong? What happened?"
The doctor opened his mouth, but was still unable to speak. Never once did he think he would see a floating child with demon horns. He simply pointed at the door, as if to tell Mr. Sarakana to go in and see for himself.
With that, Mr. Sarakana opened the door. He saw his wife sitting on the hospital bed with her eyes squinted, still trying to identify what the doctor was talking about. Mr. Sarakana looked up to where she was looking and saw their newborn daughter floating and doing backflips in the sky. A smile formed on his lips
"Is that..."
Mrs. Sarakana looked over at him, even struggling to see him.
"Do you have my glasses with you?"
Mr. Sarakana reached into his pockets, but couldn't feel her glasses.
"No I don't."
"Oh okay. Well the doctor was freaking out about something and pointed to the ceiling, but I can't see anything without my glasses. I also have absolutely no clue where he put our child."
"Oh well, I can get that for you."
Mr. Sarakana climbed on top of a counter that was in the delivery room and jumped as high as he could to reach their daughter. He grabbed her and when he fell back to the ground, he had held her safely in his arms.
"Here you go."
He handed the baby to his wife who looked at it with squinted eyes.
"This baby... It's... A GIRL!"
"I KNOW! AND SHE'S BEAUTIFUL!"
Mrs. Sarakana looked even closer at the baby, holding it tightly in her arms.
"And look! Purple eyes! How unique!"
They both looked at the baby intently. The baby looked back at the both of them, it was as if she was already thinking about something. Mrs. Sarakana's mind was filled with many thoughts at that moment. The most important of course, was what name to give their child.
"Remember when we were coming up with names, and the name Saneko came to mind? Do you think that name would still work?"
"Yeah! A beautiful name for a beautiful baby."
The two were completely oblivious to the fact that the baby was just flying a moment ago, and that it had red demon horns protruding from its skull. Or maybe they just didn't care. If it wasn't obvious by now, the two of them are idiots.
While under usual circumstances, the police would have been called and experiments would have immediately been conducted on the child, however, the new year was coming up, and in just February of 4063, it came to light that a shaman in Mongolia discovered powers deep within himself, purely by accident. Since that day, humans all over the world immediately started meditating or focusing their "spiritual cores". Basically anything to try and awaken these powers.
Although it seemed silly at first, one after another, people started awakening supernatural abilities. At first, people who had cultivated these powers could levitate, and stronger examples could create auras of power around themselves.
While the doctor that witnessed Saneko floating did deeply consider telling the police for many months, thinking it over, it took him too long to decide, and by now, everyone had already either cultivated a power, or had at least heard about these powers. This lead the doctor to believe that Saneko just so happened to be a early example, and he dropped the idea of telling the police. They probably would have thought the same thing anyway.
One day, when Saneko was 4 months old, Mr. Sarakana returned home from work, jumping in excitement.
"I JUST LEARNED A SPECIAL ABILITY!"
Mrs. Sarakana ran to the door, also jumping in excitement.
"Really? what is it?"
With a smirk, Mr. Sarakana reached out his arm and struck a heroic and flamboyant pose.
"Be prepared, for this might blow your socks off!"
Mrs. Sarakana stared in anticipation, wondering what the ability could possible be.
With a snap of his fingers, Mr. Sarakana's hand started glowing with an orange hue, and a tiny spark of an electric-like current sparked from it. Despite it being such a weak ability that most people throughout the world could have learned within a day, it didn't stop him from being overly proud in it. Mrs. Sarakana was also overly impressed by the ability, and she started clapping her hands.
"WOW! AMAZING!"
Her amazement was in part due to the fact that she had been attempting to cultivate powers for a while as well, but failed every time she tried, so seeing a somewhat successful attempt piqued her interest.
"If I continue learning powers like this, I could get a better job, and just in case Saneko becomes a troublemaker, I could give her a little scare hehe."
This story has been taken without authorization. Report any sightings.
Mrs. Sarakana giggled to herself, looking over to Saneko who was in a nearby crib.
"Oh, she won't be a troublemaker."
Saneko, pretending to sleep, was overhearing this entire conversation. She rolled her half-opened eyes upon hearing their banter. Despite only being 4 months ago, she was already capable of complex thought. It was quite annoying to hear her parents think of her as nothing but a normal toddler, but it wasn't entirely their fault. Even though Saneko had shown that she already had some abilities, there was no reason to believe she was capable of complex thought, so she couldn't be too upset at her parents.
Just a few weeks later, Mrs. Sarakana was in a rocking chair, cradling Saneko while rocking back and forth. While this usually would have been comfortable for a baby, Saneko didn't think like a baby. She grew irritable, and she decided that she would have to tell her mom to stop. She didn't want to expose the fact she could speak so early in life, but she couldn't take the cradling anymore.
Her mouth began to move, and Mrs. Sarakana perked up when she saw this.
"SHE'S ABOUT TO SAY HER FIRST WORDS!"
Mr. Sarakana immediately sprinted into the living room where they were.
"REALLY? ALREADY?"
The two of them stared at Saneko as her mouth moved slightly. Her lips parted and the two of them leaned in with anxious expressions. Nothing but a single-syllable whisper came from her voice, however, it was loud that her parents' ears erupted with blood and every window of the house shattered.
Her parents were hospitalized for 2 weeks. Due to this incident, Saneko did not utter a sound from her voice for the next 5 years of her life. She instead resorted to communicating telepathically with her parents. The first time she did this was when she was two years old, asking for a banana smoothie. It caught her dad off guard entirely. Mr. Sarakana stood up and looked around nervously.
"Who's there? Who said that?"
"It's me, you're daughter. Saneko."
He looked down at Saneko, who was sitting on the couch looking up at him. He tilted his head in confusion.
"Saneko?"
"Yeah. I want a banana smoothie. I saw one on TV."
She pointed to the TV and there was a commercial for a banana smoothie that was being sold at the nearest ice cream shop as the newest item on the menu.
"Well, I don't want to spoil you... but you are just so adorable!"
Mrs. Sarakana then entered the room, looking around as she heard him talking to someone. She had assumed he was on the phone, but he clearly wasn't.
"Who are you talking to?"
Saneko turned her attention to her mom. She had a feeling her mom would scream in excitement upon hearing her speak telepathically, but that banana smoothie looked really good.
"It's me mom. Saneko. I want that banana smoothie on TV."
Mrs. Sarakana stared at Saneko for what felt like hours. Saneko stared back, not really understanding what was happening.
"Well, I want to believe you, but I can't see you that well."
Saneko's irritation was growing. She pointed the the counter and telekinetically lifted her mom's glasses from it. She then caused the glasses to float over to her mom, and she placed them on her face.
"Oh that's better. Anyway, sure! Let's get that banana smoothie for you!"
Saneko had a nearly emotionless expression on her face. Her parents did not even point out that she was telepathically speaking to them. Saneko couldn't decide if it was a blessing or a curse to have such dumb parents.
When Saneko was 5 and a half years old, she finally began to speak using her voice. She spoke at -100 decibels, which normally would be inaudible to practically every single being, but Saneko's voice was naturally so loud, it sounded like a normal inside voice to everyone else.
She would teleport to an empty desert field every once in a while to practice speaking. She would repeat a single phrase over and over again.
"Banana smoothie."
At first, she had no control over her voice, and simply speaking in what she would consider a normal tone, would cause the ground to tremble and the sand around her to sink. She had created multiple sinkholes doing this, but she didn't give up. She eventually found the perfect tone and frequency to speak at.
Despite her now being able to speak in what would be considered a normal volume, she still went to the desert to practice every day, just to be extra sure that she wouldn't cause a similar incident to the one she did years ago.
One day when she did this, she felt the presence of another human. She turned around to see a man riding a camel. The first time Saneko went to this desert, it was because she flew to space to see a spot of Earth that seemed to be nothing but desert so she could practice alone. When she found this spot, she immediately teleported there. She did not know that this spot was in Egypt.
The man on the camel spoke in Arabic, asking who she was, why she had horns, and why a child was out in the middle of nowhere by herself. Even though Saneko had never spoken to anyone in Arabic, she could understand every word he was saying, and replied to him in perfect Arabic, saying that she honestly didn't even know why she had horns, and that she was just there to practice something.
It was unknown to everyone, including Saneko herself, but her hearing was so good, that she could hear every corner of the Earth at all times since the day of her birth. This allowed her to learn every language fluently at a very young age. She simply had perfect control of her mind, so she could tune out whatever she didn't want to hear. Still though, she would subconsciously hear these things, and they stuck in her mind.
Saneko's perfect mind also extended to the fact that those who had cultivated any form of power would have their body invisibly expand a few inches past their physical forms. This allows them to react to things quicker than someone with no power can, as they can feel anything within their body. Saneko's body invisibly expands 10 miles past her physical body. She can feel every single thing within her invisible spirit, but she tunes out most of it. Even so, every time her parents tried to surprise tickle her as a child, she would immediately teleport away because of this. Her parents thought she was no fun because of it.
When Saneko was 6 years old, she and her parents were out on a walk. It was a beautiful sunny day, and not a cloud was in the sky. At this point in time, Saneko's hair had fully grown out. Just like everything else about her, it was unique as it was bright silver. She also had a cowlick on the left side of her head that would not lay down no matter what.
On this particular day, Mrs. Sarakana noticed a festival taking place, and young kids were racing each other on a track.
"Oh Saneko, you should do that, it looks so fun!"
Saneko looked away and crossed her arms, not wanting anything to do with it.
"No."
Even though Saneko gave a blunt answer, her mom grabbed her hand and walked towards the track anyway.
"Oh don't be like that. It'll be fun."
Mr. Sarakana pulled out his phone with a smile on his face. he went to the camera app, preparing to record Saneko.
With a sigh, Saneko followed them. She entered the track, and all of the other kids got into running positions. Saneko, however, simply stood there looking as bored as ever.
Mr. Sarakana was recording with his phone, while Mrs. Sarakana was cheering her on from the seats.
"YOU CAN DO THIS!"
A person came up to the track with a gun and aimed it in the air.
"3, 2, 1,"
With the gunshot sounding the start of the race, all of the kids immediately started running. Saneko was in the far back, only walking. This didn't stop her parents' enthusiasm though. They continued to cheer for her despite her clear annoyance.
"YOU CAN DO IT SANEKO!"
Saneko didn't react. She just kept walking emotionlessly. All of the other kids made it past the finish line, and Saneko was in last place.
After the race, she walked back up to her parents. Her mom immediately hugged her with a huge smile on her face.
"I bet you had so much fun!"
Mr. Sarakana held his phone out, proud of his daughter despite her coming in last place and not caring in the slightest.
"And I got it all on video!"
The truth was that Saneko actually came in first place by a massive margin. In a time interval too fast for the naked eye to capture, Saneko had ran around the globe. She simply slowed down when she returned to the starting point, making it seem like she was slow the entire time. She couldn't care less to tell this to anyone though.
At the age of eight, Saneko was flicking through channels on the TV while drinking a banana smoothie, and she came across an animated series. This series had a different style to the Saturday morning cartoons she was used to though. It being different immediately intrigued Saneko. She put the remote down and started watching.
It didn't take her too long to realize that this was what was known as an anime. The main character of the series was very overpowered, to the point that he could one-shot every single villain. Naturally, he never broke a sweat.
Saneko was captivated by the show, her eyes glued to the screen. The main character was cocky and flamboyant. In one scene, a group of villains had him surrounded. It seemed like there was no way he could escape, but he began to speak in a overly serious voice.
"You are all fools. There is no way to escape Fire Death."
With that, the main character summoned a fire ball in his hands and wiped out every villain with a single blow. Saneko looked at her hand, and summoned a fire ball in it. Her mind began to wander with different thoughts.
"I can do the same things he does. I'm sure there are people out there causing trouble that I can stop."
The age of eight was a very impressionable age. Saneko's mind was almost instantly influenced by the half-hearted slop she was watching. These power fantasies written only to appeal to power hungry people started to grow on Saneko.
Once a week the show came on, and every time, Saneko immediately tuned in. Her emotionless demeanor was quickly disappearing, but it was being replaced by something not much better.
After many consecutive weeks of watching the show, the final episode aired. The main character was faced with the final boss, the demon lord. Saneko was on the edge of her seat watching this. The demon lord appeared to be nothing but a normal human who just had red horns.
Saneko reached up to feel her horns that she was inexplicably born with.
"Demon? I'm a demon?"
The show concluded with the main character predictably destroying the demon lord with a single punch. The ending was trash writing at its finest. Absolutely nothing to write home about, but to Saneko, it was thrilling and captivating. She immediately ran to her computer, looking up forums on what people were saying about the final episode.
To her disappointment, most of the comments were only talking about the girls in the series instead of the show itself. One of the comments referred to the female lead as the "best babe in the show."
The synapses in Saneko's brain clicked as she read this comment. Babe = good thing.
So if demon = boss and babe = good, there was only one option. Saneko would have to be a hero. she smirked to herself, the same smirk the main character from the anime she watched had. She ran to a mirror and looked at herself.
"I'm the legendary hero, Demon Babe!"
She began repeating phrases she believed to be "cool" to herself in the mirror in a very serious tone. She continued doing this until she realized that she needed a more heroic look. She made scissors with her fingers, and with a single motion, cut through her hair, cutting at shoulder length.
As the rest of her silver locks fell to the ground, she continued staring into the mirror. She put her hands in her pockets, looking like a serious yet mysterious character. Despite putting on this cool and serious act, in her mind, she thought this was the coolest thing ever. She never thought of her powers as anything special, as everyone had cultivated some sort of power at this point in time, but now she realized, she could be whatever she wanted to be.
