Chapter 16

Saneko slept tightly in her bed. Being the restless sleeper she was, her covers were knocked completely off the side of the bed. The sun began to shine through Saneko's bedroom window, and her recently adopted cat, Dyinglight, was laying on her carpet with a disturbed expression. It could barely get any sleep due to Saneko's snoring. It had grown somewhat accustomed to Saneko's parents, as they treated it well, but it still was far from comfortable around Saneko.

The sun shined on Saneko's eyes, causing her to groan a bit before turning in bed slightly. Her eyes opened a little bit and she sat up. She put her hand to her mouth and let out a loud yawn like she usually did every morning.

"What time is it? Am I late again?"

She slowly got out of bed, wearing her lazy clothes. She went to her closet and was about to change into her school uniform until her mom knocked on the door and walked in. Saneko presumed that her mom had come in to scold her.

"I know I know. I'm getting ready."

"Huh? No, I heard you getting up so I wanted to tell you that the school called this morning. They said that the events of yesterday had left a lot of the students shaken up, so they decided to cancel classes for the day."

"Oh... okay."

Saneko closed her closet door and Mrs. Sarakana turned around and walked away. Now that she was awake and not snoring anymore, Dyinglight could finally get comfortable. It started to roll up into a ball and it closed its eyes, almost instantly falling asleep.

Saneko looked over at her cat and began to think about how comfortable it looked.

"Damn. I wish I was a cat sometimes. Look how comfy it looks to be a cat. Then again, if I were a cat, no one would ever know the name Demon Babe, which would be doing the world a huge disservice."

She began walking to the kitchen and looked around for a bit.

"Where's dad?"

"What do you mean? He's at work."

"Oh, his job didn't give him the day off?"

"No, unfortunately not."

"Oh I see."

Saneko had just assumed that if she had a day off, everyone else would as well. She believed the world revolved around her as we all know. She opened the refrigerator door and sighed when she saw that it was practically empty.

"Oh yeah, I forgot to tell you. We ran all out of milk."

Saneko looked up to her mom and saw that her intentions were to ask her to go to the store and get more groceries. She felt irritation at the fact that her parents tried to hide their intentions from her. They didn't mean any harm, but Saneko valued the truth. It was somewhat hypocritical as Saneko would spread small untruths to get her way sometimes, but she is extremely deluded. So much so that she actually believes her untruths were truths sometimes.

"Mom, I know what you're trying to do. I'll do it later."

"Aww come on. Can't you do it now? It is your day off."

"Exactly, it's my day off. Why should I do it?"

"Well Saneko, you are an adult now and we still let you live here."

Saneko groaned exasperatedly while rolling her eyes. She knew that her mom did have a point, but she hated to admit it.

"FINE!"

Saneko put on her tennis shoes and tied them before walking out of the door. She was so frustrated with her mom that she decided that she would teleport despite knowing her mom would be upset. She's done it before anyway, so she decided that she just wouldn't tell her. Just then, she came to an unfortunate realization.

"If I come back too fast, she'll know I teleported. Why can't anything be easy?"

Saneko leaned her head back in vexation and let out another groan. The differences between Saneko in her natural personality and Demon Babe were striking. She hunched over, looking exaggeratedly exhausted as she walked down the street to the store. She looked up to the sun and began to think to herself. Her eyes were completely immune to the sun's rays, so looking at it never impaired her vision or harmed her in any way.

"Oh my god I'm so bored."

As she continued to look at the sun, she began to get an idea. Her look of annoyance turned into a look of mischief. She decided that, to make her walk to the store less boring, she would play around a bit. She snapped her fingers and the sun's color changed to blood red.

As soon as she did this, screams started echoing through the streets. Saneko saw people running for their lives, not knowing what was happening, and this just caused her to giggle to herself.

"Hehehe~"

She snapped her fingers again, causing the sun to return to its normal color, but she wasn't done yet. She snapped her fingers yet again, causing the sky to change from bright blue to pitch black. Screams once again echoed through the streets.

Mrs. Sarakana, who was in the living room of her house, saw that the entire world had gone dark. She blinked a few times, oblivious to what was happening.

"Wow, that's a big cloud."

Saneko couldn't stop snickering as she saw people's reactions. She snapped her fingers, returning the sky to its normal form.

"IT'S HAPPENING AGAIN!"

A NASA scientist who was sweating profusely ran into the chief scientist's office.

"What's happening?"

"Th...the a...anomalies. Like from a f...few days ago."

The chief scientist automatically stood up, not believing his ears.

"WHAT WAS IT THIS TIME!"

"The sun... it turned red and the sky turned black. It's back to normal now, but what just happened was obviously not normal."

"HAS THERE BEEN ANY NEWS OF BEASTS ATTACKING?"

"Yesterday a beast attacked a city called Cintianta, but that beast was found dead. As far as I know, this isn't the doing of a monster."

The chief scientist looked at his desk in bewilderment. What was going on with the world recently? He looked back to the scientist and began to theorize.

"This has to be a creature from another dimension. If no monster has attacked, what else could it be? And plus, monsters have never been shown to use powers."

"Exactly. But where would this being come from? And why aren't they actually causing destruction?"

"I don't know, but we can't wait around and find out."

"What are we supposed to do then?"

He brought up a good point. What could they do? They didn't even know who this was. How could they find it, and more importantly, how could they stop such a creature. The chief scientist stayed silent as he pondered these questions.

At this point, Saneko was nearly crying as she laughed. Seeing the reactions of the people on the streets were priceless. She loved seeing them run around like ants. It only made her feel more superior over them. She had finally made it to the store and was still trying to get over her laughter. She walked over to the milk isle as she remembered that was the main thing she came there for. Most of the people in the store were too busy shopping to have noticed the events Saneko caused, so there wasn't much commotion inside.

Saneko opened one of the freezer doors and pulled out a gallon of milk. She turned to see the boy she had saved from the bully staring up at her with a huge smile on his face.

"DEMON BABE!"

This boy seemed to be everywhere she went. Saneko wasn't complaining though, after all, she loved having a disciple.

"Greetings little one. What brings you here?"

"My mom is in the next isle. She is buying groceries and wanted me to come with her."

Saneko got excited when the boy mentioned his mom. This was the perfect opportunity to show off to someone else, especially considering the boy would hype Saneko up.

"I would love to meet your mother and let her see who the most powerful being in the world truly is."

The boy also got excited. He has wanted his mom to meet Demon Babe for a while now, especially after showing her the news a few days ago.

"COOL! And by the way, I've never seen you wear those clothes before."

Saneko, confused by the boy's statement, looked down at her clothes. She let out a yelp when she noticed that she was in her lazy clothes. She turned away and covered her face with her hand to hide her embarrassment.

"I am undercover actually. And... oh no... I am hearing someone call for my help. I must get there at once!"

Saneko teleported to another isle, far away from where the boy was. His expression of excitement turned into one of disappointed. He really wanted his mom to meet Demon Babe, but he understood that she had duties to attend to, even though she didn't. Saneko sighed, knowing that it wasn't a good idea to upset her disciple, as that could possibly cause him to lose faith in her, but putting on her cool act while wearing lazy clothes was so contradictory to her that she'd rather not do it it all.

She turned to see that the isle she was on was the toy isle. She saw that she had teleported right next to the area that had the basketballs. She looked down and pulled out some money from her pocket. With a sigh she closed her eyes and used her clairvoyant-like ability to find the boy.

The boy walked up to his mom with a sad face. She looked over at him as she pushed the cart down the isle.

"What's wrong?"

"Nothing..."

The mom looked a bit worried for her son, but she decided that she would talk about it later, after they had left the store. She turned back to walk to the self-checkout. As the two of them walked, something caught the boy's attention. He looked up to see a basketball floating down to him. It landed in his hands, and there was money on top of it. The boy picked up one of the dollars, and on it was a crudely drawn imagine of Saneko giving a thumbs up. The boy's face instantly brightened and he held the ball close to him.

Saneko quickly paid for the milk before the boy could get to the checkout. She knew she should have bought other groceries as well, but she'd do that another day. She couldn't risk being seen by the boy again. As she left the building, she looked up to the sky and exhaled deeply.

"I did a good deed didn't I?"

Of course, aside from doing stuff for her parents, Saneko wouldn't do something for someone without expecting something in return, which in this case was the boy's faith, but she didn't realize her own faults.

When she returned home, she took off her shoes and walked up to the refrigerator, placing the milk inside. Mrs. Sarakana walked up and shook her head.

"Really Saneko? Only milk?"

"Just give me a break. It's what I wanted originally anyway."

Her mom facepalmed, but it was her fault for trusting Saneko with such a small task. Saneko was known to get sidetracked, so entrusting her with anything is almost always the fault of the person who entrusted her.

Saneko walked up to her room and saw Dyinglight, still sleeping soundly. She sat on her bed and looked at her tattered pillow and disheveled blankets. She put her elbows on her lap and rested her chin on her palms. She was exhausted and wished to be like the cat for a moment.

"How do cats sleep so comfortably?"

As Saneko stared at Dyinglight peacefully sleeping, she stood up and picked it up. This instantly woke the cat up. It looked horrified as it was faced with Saneko staring at it. Her eyes changed from purple to red. This part of Color Spectrum allowed Saneko to take the properties of whatever she focused on as long as it was living. Her horns instantly transformed into cat ears and she also grew whiskers. She dropped the cat on the floor. It was so disturbed it simply walked away.

Saneko decided to get back on her bed. As she had taken the properties of a cat, she could also take the properties of how peacefully a cat sleeps. She curled up into a ball on her bed and quickly fell asleep with soft purrs.
