Chapter 40

Saneko found herself walking alongside Chloe and Katie in the park, just like how Katie discussed a little while back. Saneko, of course, didn't want to be here at all, looking completely bored while walking behind them.

"How did I even get myself into this situation? Oh never mind... that's how."

Earlier that day, Saneko had been at the store, picking up cat food for Dyinglight just as her dad told her to do. She was very frustrated, but then, her feeling turned into a feeling of shock when she turned a corner, only to notice Chloe and Katie chatting on the sidewalk that Saneko took to get back home, and they were walking directly towards her. She hid behind the corner as fast as she could, letting out a yelp of surprise, hoping they didn't see her.

Katie was laughing at something Chloe said, but then stopped when she saw the movement around the corner. She pointed towards where Saneko once was, wondering what had just happened.

"Did you see that? It looked like that girl from our school."

"Oh? Who?"

"The one with horns."

"Oh Saneko. I doubt it. And besides, even if it is. Something about her gives me the heebie jeebies, so it's best if we don't check. And plus, you said yourself that we probably shouldn't bother her."

The other day, Chloe was all for telling Saneko to join them, but it was just a bluff to make Katie feel better. She still had an uneasy feeling about Saneko, and really hoped she wouldn't join, even if asked.

"Yeah, but it looked like whoever it was hid from us. We should see why."

"Oh... okay."

Chloe and Katie cautiously started approaching the corner.

"Crap! One of them saw me! They can't see me like this. IN MY LAZY CLOTHES!"

At this point, Saneko should just wear her school uniform all of the time because events like this continued to happen. She wouldn't though, because, as much as she loved the style of the uniform, it was far too uncomfortable for her to wear 24/7 365.

"I could teleport home, change, and teleport back. It’s not like Mom can stop me! And this is super important anyway!"

She suddenly vanished and reappeared in her room, where she dropped the bag of cat food on the floor. She quickly changed into her school uniform, feeling the familiar rush of confidence that came with looking her best. She admired herself in the mirror, adjusting her tie a bit.

"That's more like it."

Sure, Saneko didn't want to see them, but they were still her classmates. Perhaps there would be an opportunity for her to use her powers in front of them, causing them to start clapping, before dropping to their knees and bowing down to her. She couldn't let that opportunity slip by.

She once again teleported, going from her room back to the corner she was behind. She leaned against it casually, and started looking at her fingernails in a nonchalant manner, waiting for the two of them to appear.

Once they looked over the corner to see that the person was indeed Saneko, their expressions changed. Chloe recoiled a bit from the sight, while Katie smiled shyly and started waving.

"Hi. You're Saneko right? We were about to go to the park. Want to go with us?"

Realizing that it was just for the park, Saneko waved her hand dismissively. It was extremely unlikely for any events to happen at the park that would allow her to use her powers, and it wasn't like these girls were going to be playing any of the games those elementary schoolers were playing, so going along with them wasn't in her best interest after all.

"I have no time for such silly antics. I suggest you find someone else."

Katie looked away, a look of disappointed etched on her face. Chloe, however, looked relieved.

"Oh... alright. Let's go to the ice cream shop first Chloe. You said you'd buy me ice cream remember hehe."

Those words caught Saneko's attention quicker than anything else. Ice cream shop? And Chloe was paying? She couldn't pass this up. She stumbled a bit as she stood up straight.

"WAIT?"

Flinching a bit, Chloe and Katie turned back around to see Saneko.

"Oh um... I mean... I suppose I will humor you two. I am feeling rather kind today."

Chloe let out a shaky breath, not knowing why she dreaded Saneko's appearance so much. Katie, on the other hand, looked extremely excited.

"Cool! Let's all go together!"

She started skipping down the sidewalk in the direction of the ice cream shop and Chloe hesitantly followed. Saneko smirked and put her hands in her suit pockets.

"Heh. I'm gonna get a banana smoothie anyway. Take that mom and dad!"

Once they had entered the shop, the cashier immediately pointed at Saneko with a smile on his face.

If you stumble upon this narrative on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen from Royal Road. Please report it.

"Hey, no need to order. I already know what you want."

Chloe and Katie turned around with confused looks on their faces. Saneko gave an arrogant smile, crossing her arms, like she did something impressive.

"As you can see, I am quite famous."

Chloe and Katie looked back at each other and shrugged before standing in the line. Saneko sat on one of the stools and crossed one leg over the other, waiting for them to order for themselves.

"Maybe going along with them wasn't such a bad thing after all. I mean, a free banana smoothie, and I get to show off how popular I am. Even if it isn't showing off my powers, this is still really cool."

After a few minutes had passed, Chloe and Katie returned. Katie took a bite out of a sundae she had ordered, while Chloe returned with two drinks. One vanilla shake, and one banana smoothie. She hesitantly handed the smoothie over to Saneko.

"I assume this is yours."

Saneko snatched it and started sipping from it blissfully.

Chloe and Katie then sat down on the stools next to Saneko, and continued to consume their respective items. The two started talking amongst themselves, Katie still speaking in a soft voice.

"So, I never asked, but why didn't Mark come?"

"Eh, he was busy with student council stuff."

"But it's the weekend. I just think he wanted to get out of spending time with me."

"Hey, don't say that Katie. He is the student council president after all. I'm sure he just had a bunch of responsibilities."

"I doubt it. Not many people want to be my friend."

"That's not true Katie!"

Saneko glanced over at the two of them talking. Their discussion was so trivial to her that she quite literally could not care less. She was just content sipping on her beloved smoothie, so she put up with the noise.

"God. Why are they talking about Katie having friends when they are right next to me? I should be capturing their attention with my stunning beauty and imposing presence!"

While the three of them were in the shop, two men were on a rooftop across the street. They both wore black mouth masks and black bandanas. One held binoculars and the other was on his stomach, aiming a sniper rifle directly at the side of Saneko's head. Adjusting the binoculars, the man was confident that this was their target.

"That is 100% Demon Babe."

"You're sure?"

"Yup. Who else has horns like that?"

"Good point."

The sniper made sure he was aiming directly at her. Once he pressed the trigger, the bullet flew through the windows of the ice cream shop, shattering them instantly. Saneko could feel the speeding bullet as soon as it left the barrel of the gun.

"A TIME TO SHINE ALWAYS PRESENTS ITSELF!"

She stretched one arm out and grabbed the bullet before crushing it between her fingers. Everyone in the shop began screaming and ducking beneath tables. Different voices spoke up, each talking about what had just happened.

"Is it another beast?"

"Is it a robber?"

"It might be a sniper."

Saneko looked over to see Chloe and Katie covering their heads. Saneko put her banana smoothie down and ruffled Chloe's hair.

"It seems as if the 'perfect girl' got scared by a measly bullet. Pathetic."

Opening the door, Saneko spoke loud enough for everyone to hear.

"Fear not! I will protect all of you! The culprits were two men above that building. I can sense them."

She pointed to the building they were on, but there was no one there. She was left with a perplexed look on her face as everyone looked as well, only to see no one there.

"What is that girl talking about?"

"Is this a prank or something?"

"Is she insane?"

Chloe sighed and stood up, taking her shake in one hand and patting Katie, who was whimpering in fear, on the back.

"Come on Katie. Let's go. We should be safe now."

Saneko was fuming with rage. These two men attempted to murder her, and then they fled before she could prove herself. She could feel them running away, but decided not to go after them. No, that would be far too easy. They deserved far worse than death for embarrassing her like that. Her eye color changed from purple to black.

The two men ran down the staircase behind the building and then ran through the alleyways as fast as they could. The sniper dropped his gun so he could move even faster.

"You didn't tell me she was so fast!"

"I didn't know! We are doing this for our lord remember?"

"Yeah, but let him take her down if she's this strong! This is insane!"

"Yeah but-"

Suddenly, the man speaking began screaming at the top of his lungs before falling to the ground. The sniper turned to him and started checking on him.

"What's wrong? Are you okay?"

Just then, the sniper felt an immense pain all over his body. He too screamed and fell to the ground, writhing in pain.

Color Spectrum Black was an ability that allowed Saneko to curse those in anyway she saw fit. There were no limits to this ability. Whatever Saneko decided, would be etched into fate. The only downside is that it's permanent. For example, if Saneko cursed someone to always be hungry, they would always have a sense of hunger for the rest of their lives. In this case, both men were cursed to have every single pain receptor go off at the same time forever.

Saneko's eyes returned to normal and she went back inside to pick up her banana smoothie. She reluctantly followed Chloe and Katie, not believing that she didn't get to show off.

"Why does everything always go wrong when I try to prove myself?"

Just like always, Saneko seemed to disregard the fact that she was worshipped by an entire nation, but that didn't mean much now considering what was going on in the country of Dying Star. A man sat on the throne with people bowing before him. The same man that had watched Saneko's triumphs from his TV screen time and time again. He had a scythe laying against the throne and smiled with a menacing smirk as he thought about his victory over the country.

"Ah Demon Babe. You are quite the impressive cultivator. You got on the news and created a country from scratch. You seemed quite invincible I must admit, but none of that matters when I copied your own techniques to live the exact same way you do."

The man sipped from a banana smoothie had he continued to sit with one leg crossed over the other, just like Saneko does.

Saneko had finished her smoothie and looked around for a trash can. When she found one, she walked over to it and tossed out her cup. She then returned to Chloe and Katie who were still talking to each other. They were now in a park, which leads us to where we were earlier.

Saneko groaned to herself, not believing that she got caught up in all of this just because of a banana smoothie. It wasn't like the two were even talking to her anyway, and she had already been embarrassed enough for one day.

It seemed as if she was saved by the bell though considering her dad tapped her on the shoulder.

"I found cat food in your room, but you were nowhere to be found. Don't tell me you were out showing off again."

The two girls looked behind themselves to see what was going on. Saneko couldn't act like she had parents. In her opinion, having people above her was an unacceptable look for her. She turned around to the girls and waved them off.

"I must leave as my servant requires me."

Being called a servant made Mr. Sarakana confused.

"Servant?"

Chloe and Katie looked at each other again and nodded.

"Alright... bye."

"Yeah, bye I guess."

They turned back around and continued walking. Saneko sighed in relief. She couldn't take another second of that boredom.

"Now answer me. Why were you out so late again?"

Saneko suddenly hugged him tightly, feeling extremely grateful for his presence at this moment.

"THANK YOU!"

"Huh? For what?"

"FOR SAVING MY LIFE!"

"What are you talking about?"

Saneko's only weaknesses were, not getting attention, not getting banana smoothies, and boredom. The triune of despair in Saneko's eyes.
