Vol 2 Ch 8: Raishin Torai

Raishin’s birthday came and we planned most of his day for him. He would go on a date with Shania for half of the day and for the other half, we would go do some adventuring together. In between, I would play some cool boss music for him, and I managed to pull Gregory into it. They would chill in the park go eat somewhere together and spend time together. Ted was making sure things would run smoothly in the park. I was making sure everything was in order in the restaurant they would go eat and Gregory had booked seats for a theater for them and he was in charge of that.

The owner of the restaurant was being a pain in the ass because he didn't feel like he had to negotiate with a kid and I tried to make him do a special alteration of a dish Raishin likes a lot. In the end, I flashed my OP ID and things worked out. Being rich surely is convenient here, which is funny because I didn't get this because I was rich but that doesn't change the fact that I am. I also had to fund Gregory’s idea but that was no issue. I had clones around the city to make sure no random spies and assassins would mess with us. I haven't found any problematic ones since we arrived but you can never know. Everything went quite well. Raishin was having a lot of fun. Ted spotted a shady character and after tailing him he discovered that it was someone after us and he knocked him out. My clone went over and got rid of him.

After they had breakfast at the restaurant, I went to a hall we rented. Shania put in a lot of work yesterday because we have no clue how stuff works here so she helped us. I was alone and used this time for my tails to figure out what boss music I’m going to play. I will still have to manual it when it comes to it but the mental strain will be gone with these preparations.

We don't know many people so only my buddies, Shania, Tania, and her daddy and friends are invited. It was Raishin’s idea to invite them and I don’t really like it because now they will discover I can also use lightning magic and wires, oh well. I was planning to use red lightning for this but now I will keep it to blue at max. It seemed people were heading toward this hall. I closed the curtains and made my setup. I improved it since last time so it should be easier to go loose on my [Boss music]. It is not going to be a big thing; I will only play 5 songs of which Gregory will join in with the first 2. Raishin requested the song I did on the plaza on the day we arrived so I had to run to the library yesterday to figure out how a xylophone works. Luckily it wasn't a pain in the ass like a piano.

Gregory appeared and I talked some stuff over with him. I linked up my vision and showed him a simulation of what I wanted to play and what he needs to do. He practiced a bit but luckily, he was convinced he could do it. The people gathered and we opened the curtain and started. First up was the boss music Gregory and I played on our first day here. I added some extras to it and Gregory had a violin solo in it now. I had to do 2 piano solos and a xylophone solo. After that, I did a new song that mainly had strings and where Gregory was the main character. Gregory took a polite bow and left the stage. I started another one that I recently made and it was mainly electric sounds, piano, and some percussion. I still manually played the piano because it added more oomphf, to it.

I went ham and the crowd loved it. Well, crowd, not many people were in the hall. Only my buddies, Shania, Tania, her Daddy, 4 old dudes, and 2 guys of about Tania’s age, she was flirting with one. How rude! I’m playing here! Anyways I added some bass without the use of red lightning. For the next one, I had piano and trumpets as the star. I went for something that sounded a bit primal with some percussion to add a feeling of a rumbling sound. I slowly made the drums take over. For some reason, Raishin seemed to really vibe with this one. For the next one, I would try without the electronic sound, I didn't use it much in the last song but it is good for filling gaps since I can’t use my tails. This one is probably going to be the hardest. Lots of strings some horns in the beginning with some mild percussion at the start and the wind instruments gradually started taking over.

I then transitioned to a part with wind instruments that sounded quite heroic. I kept the tones a bit low and made it sound like something big was slowly approaching. Little piano here and there and then I transitioned to the next part. It was quite rough in this piece. Raishin seemed to enjoy it so I guess that's good. The next part of the song started with a lot of percussion and the strings in the lead. I kept adding wind instruments and increasing the tempo. And then I added a newcomer to my repertoire. When looking for the xylophone I found a string instrument called the Erhu.

I had never heard about it but after trying it out for a bit earlier I discovered it had a unique sound. This one was the star of the song now and nobody seemed to be expecting it. I grinned and went loose with the sound of the Erhu and added more strings to compliment it. Some flutes in the background and then just because I can, I added some electronium guitar. I kind of forgot to keep up with most instruments so the electric guitar took over so I started the Erhu sound again and then ended the piece. I didn't even start my last song yet but I was getting standing ovations.

Man, this is tiring. I scrapped the last song I had in mind and just started a song with just the electric guitar. Because I only needed to deal with 1 instrument and some light drumming sound in the background, I could go ham. Would also be fitting for the finale. This one wasn't something I came up with, I once heard this somewhere so some here might know it. It seemed that everyone here knew it besides Raishin and one of the guys Tania brought. Just a simple piece but suitable as a closing act. I bowed while getting a standing ovation and closed the curtains. Phew, that was rough. I still need a lot of practice. This wasn't completely unassisted because I let my tails figure out how or what but preferably, I would want to use my tails to act as extra limbs. I sat down and ate a snack. Raishin appeared from between the crowd and pulled me outside toward the audience.

Hey, what gives! They want to talk to you and thank you for your performance!

But this is all about you, not me! Yes, I want them to tell you how good you were!

Ugh. They applauded again when Raishin pulled me out and they all thanked me for my performance and Tania’s Daddy, introduced me to the president of the adventurers' Association and his 2 sons. Why is the president here? We talked a bit and they tried to turn me into the adventurer's Association bard. Hell no! Why does everyone want me to do some stuff I don’t want to do? One of the presidents sons approached me and was acting odd.

“I think he wants to be your friend Agnis.” I looked at the guy. Wow, Shania, you’re brutal in revealing his sneaky intentions to the open.

If you discover this narrative on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen. Please report the violation.

“Wha… I wasn’t sneaky! I just tried to approach you!” I’m sorry I don’t swing that way.

“Huh?” Let me help you ehh, what is your name? Rule number one if you want to become friends with Agnis is to make sure you tell him your name, be clear with it, and keep repeating it.

“Yup he managed to get my name correct after one day!” That is because you kept doing your mind-reading tricks!

“I can’t mindread though…” That is what you want us to think!

“Uhm... my name is Kal, nice to meet you!” He held out his hand but I inspected his hand. Ted smacked me. Shake his hand! I shook his hand.

Agnis. Please forgive him he only has manners when it suits him…

“What a weird young lad, he defeated my daughter with ease and he is a master in music. Are there more things you can do?” Hehe, he is a skilled blacksmith! Ah right, that guy in that shop tried to turn me into a blacksmith for the adventurers' Association but I declined.

“Ha! So, you cheated to get to D rank! I knew it!” Being skilled at blacksmithing is cheating? Isn't using Daddy’s power cheating? I needed to work to become a blacksmith.

“Ugh, fine you win!” Sweet victory haha now as the loser go bring me some food!

“Hey! This wasn't a competition!”

“Hmm, what he did must have required a lot of mana control, he must be hungry, Tania let's take him with us for a meal.”

“But daddy!” Uhh, that was just a joke, there’s no need.

“Oh no! I insist!” You reap what you sow!

Everyone left to rest a bit and I got abducted to have a meal with Tania and her daddy. She kept shooting ugly gazes at me while he was asking me a lot of questions. The food also was weird. It was fancy but they spent more effort on decorating than actually making food. And they also had soup. Yuck. I froze it the moment it came into my mouth and dropped it in my dimensional pocket so it looked like I was eating soup.

“Haha daddy! Look! The look on his face is asking where the rest of the food is!” Sadly, she was right there was a weird multi-colored cube on my plate with some sauce on the side. It wasn't a big cube. I tapped it with my fork and it jiggled. I tried to take a piece out of it but it jiggled away from my fork. I tried a couple more times but it kept jiggling away.

Is this a cubed slime? It’s alive! Tania was laughing her ass off and her daddy seemed amused. They didn't seem to have issues eating the living moving cube slime. I decided it was time for dessert and froze it and ate it. It was quite tasty but it wasn't filling.

“Wow, that was funny! Let's see how you’re going to deal with the next dish!” I don't know why but this didn't seem like a meal but more like a trial. We got a huge plate with what looked like some weird food puzzle. What is actually wrong with this place?

“Oh, it is the food puzzle…” I looked at the food puzzle and decided this one was easy. I’m used to obnoxious puzzles! I solved it and started eating. Tania and her daddy weren't laughing anymore. Ha serves them right! They seemed to struggle with their obnoxious puzzle. A question, are puzzles popular? I see them everywhere.

“Hmm, they are popular but not extremely, it is said that a king in ancient times loved puzzles and that he had various treasure rooms that could only be opened by puzzle solving. This led to adventurers honing their skills in solving puzzles but that’s an old story. How did you solve this so fast?” I’m used to obnoxious puzzles. I looked at how they were struggling and helped them afterward. It was time for the dessert. I was curious what pain-in-the-ass dessert they had. The waiter told us for us the VIP guests there is a very rare and special dessert. The plates got put in front of us and I was shocked. Uhm, excuse me, are these red sky mangoes?

“Oh, you have an eye for luxury we recently got a hold on 20 red sky mangoes, they are extremely rare and valuable. Enjoy!” The waiter walked away and I looked at my plate. 2 red fruits the size of my fist were placed on a plate in front of me. Tania and her daddy also had 2. Maybe it was a good thing I came here. I don’t know how many lives these are going to give me but it would be better than running around with 3 lives.

They were delicious. I was hoping the others wouldn't like them but they did. If they got 20, they are down to at least 14 now. I looked around. It seemed that there were 5 important-looking people that also got them. I guess only 4 left then… These 2 mangoes put me on 9 lives, so I guess 3 per mango. I guess catastrophe averted, I can go on for a bit. I sent a clone to this place to attempt and steal the remaining 4 mangos. I did my best to stay polite and they finally let me go. We would soon go adventuring till almost dinner time. That was an interesting lunch but not useless. I thanked them and met up with my buddies.

Unfortunately, it seemed that the place had used up all its red sky mangoes. My clone didn't find anything or anything that could help my buddies. We took an E- rank quest of killing goblins. It was quite uneventful but we had fun blasting the horde of goblins. We were supposed to pick them off but Shania and I found their hideout and we were blasting the whole place. It was fun and that was what counted. I made sure Shania didn't notice but I put an illusion on our surroundings so Raishin could go ham. He hasn't been able to do so since Ted put a magic ban on him. At 16:30 we headed back because we had too much stuff to carry. We had to prove we killed all those goblins. Quite a large amount got vaporized so Ted, Shania and I tried our best to get the parts of the goblins that didn't. We completed our quest, cashed out, and went to chill in the park after buying some junk food.

Ahh, it feels good eating junk food after blasting goblins! Today was amazing! Was quite a busy day, hope you liked it.

Yeah, I did thanks, guys! Ted Gregory and I left Raishin and Shania alone and went back to the hotel. I brushed my tails in my room and told Gregory and Ted about the red sky mangoes.

Well, that is a relief, but don't become more reckless now! I won’t! But guys, I’m noticing that there is a low amount of spies looking for us here, do you guys think there is a good reason for that? Didn't you say that you made your clones spread misinformation?

Oh right! I forgot! I’m not surprised… How long do you think this will be effective?

I don’t know but as long as we don't draw too much attention, we should be safe here for quite a while. That is good to hear. When are we going to tell Shania what we are? As far as I can tell, we can trust her.

Yeah, I didn't find anything on her which is both suspicious and good. Being a rogue also ensures that she can keep secrets. But I suggest waiting a while before we tell her all this. Sounds like a plan, she is quite sweet, I hope Raishin doesn't mess it up. Yeah… We talked more about stuff, our day, and Raishin. Ted went back to their room and we went to sleep.
