Vol 2 Ch 62: Where it all began

Rarely do I lose track of time but relaxing in the jungle just felt too good. It was day 353 and I finally decided to do something. Vinny was still away from visiting the time capsule, maybe he was still there or took a detour. I hope nothing happened.

Going through the Penumbra and Umbra mountain range would be the shortest route distance wise to get to Boshi town but I can't run fast through the mountains. I could run around the mountain range which was the long route distance wise but might actually be way faster time-wise. I had over 3 months left. Going through the mountains would certainly take longer. I did know for a fact that the environment in the mountain range is no laughing matter so I decided to go around. The first stop would be Texiha which is near the border, after that, I would follow the mountain range up north.

I found a small town named Girai not too far from Texiha. Well, that might be inaccurate, but it isn't far for me. It was about as far from Texiha as Gittrian is. This village was next to the Gittrian river in the mountains but not too deep in. It was a very nice and quiet village.

They had mining supplies and anything Boshi Town would have, they did mining, logging, fishing, hunting, and more just living off the land. I got to like this place as it was also perfectly located. I will consider this as my next home. The villagers were friendly and I managed to sell some stuff they didn't have for cheap and asked they had a blacksmith. Interestingly enough, they didn't.

They relied on trade with Gittrian to obtain weapons and metal tools. I spent the second night of my trip there and headed north the next morning. Not many settlements were located along the mountain ranges so I had to sleep in trees as I tried to avoid caves because it never ends well when I visit caves.

I arrived near Boshi Plateau on day 381. It took a bit longer than expected but that was not a problem. I still had an [Dimensional Anchor] home so I could easily teleport back.

I was expecting merchants to climb up to Boshi Plateau but the barrier was gone so maybe there was a different system in place. I wonder how Philip and Hera are doing, Their memories got wiped so they won’t remember me. Something fell off as I got closer. I started running and saw what was causing the feeling. The ambient mana was over-saturated with light element and there was a huge crater where Boshi Town once stood. The crater gave off traces of divine energy.

I hid myself in illusions and scanned the area. I didn't sense anything or anyone nearby and used [Frost cloak] because the ambient light mana was very thick and it was mixed with divine energy.

I don’t need to guess who did this but why? Did she figure out that Azu escaped? Jerry talked about Boshi town not too long ago so it must have been still there at that time. This does feel as if it happened recently. The site of looking at a hole where Boshi Town once stood wasn't unfamiliar to me but this hole was even larger and at least the holes we made didn't leave this much miasma behind.

We need a dragon to eat all this stuff up but it's probably going to be a light dragon. I have no idea where they live. I was trying to investigate to find out what happened. I looked down.

The underground city and the power spot for the spirits were also gone… Was it really necessary for her to wipe everything off the map? Most if not all animals nearby had gotten corrupted with light mana. What a mess. There is not much I could do about this situation, unfortunately. This place needs dragons to eat this mana then possibly a shadow cat to absorb whatever has seeped into the ground, plants, and animals. Possibly elves and 4t to tend to the flora and probably many other things need to happen here and get other races involved. All because a god threw a tantrum. I tried to drive away some mana by controlling the leylines but the mana had to go somewhere.

Using frost magic here would be a very fast and easy way to turn into an ice cube and die.

I was unsure on how much mana dragons eat but this certainly is a lot… I replaced [Frost Cloak] with [Shadow cloak]. At least my mana reserves were replenished now. It did absolutely nothing to improve this area though.

A light-corrupted Boshi gull attacked me and I one-shot it. I went to the hole that I blew in the mountain years ago. Everything here was infused with light. This whole area became hostile to life. I remembered that I needed mistflowers.

Corrupted, corrupted, they were all corrupted. What do I do now? The more I investigated the angrier I got. It all seemed deliberate. The only things that I could use were clear elemental stones. Well, they weren't clear anymore, fully charged with light magic but normally you can infuse them with a certain element and use them as a small battery or backup mana source. These things are very useful in crafting weapons. I don't know anyone who can use light magic so this is a silver lining. But did it really have to happen like this? I fought off more corrupted animals and decided to just cover myself in illusions.

I entered a mine that was quite some distance from Boshi town and there I found light-corrupted miners. The corruption was severe so unlikely that it was reversible. I put them out of their misery and tried to bury them but the ground and soil were also corrupted so I had to cremate them. I didn't want any light-based zombies or things that are even harder to kill.

Many things are hard to imbue with mana and the air is one of them, all metal ore that was mined was imbued with light. I inspected it and I had no clue when this would wear off. Everything here is worthless now. I sighed.

I traveled 8 days to come up empty-handed and witness the aftermath of a disaster. My tails popped out and alerted me. I went into stealth and got as many illusion layers on me and went into stealth mode for my Elgards eyes. My tails never do this, that means it only means one thing. I sneaked out of the mine and looked at the hole. I saw an individual surrounded by gold standing there.

“Come out you witch! You must be here somewhere!” I didn't know if I should be happy or terrified. It seems she doesn't know I’m here but she knows someone is here. I didn't take any chances. I tugged on my dimensional anchor and teleported back home. My heart was pounding loudly and I was trying to calm down. She didn't notice me, did she? This was the second time I encountered her.

I looked at my hands. They were shaking. I hugged my tails and thanked them for alerting me. I let them analyse whatever little information they gathered and instructed them to dimensional teleport me away the moment something similar happens. I need to make sure I have more locations saved.

I was unable to calm down for the rest of the day as I was shivering in a corner like a terrified fox wrapped up in my tails. The thought of instant obliteration wouldn’t leave my mind.

What if she knows I killed her son? I am so fucked! This second encounter just made me realize how weak that clone of her was in Boshi town. She probably dusted herself off and the dust became her clone or something. Never before have I been gripped by fear like this. I couldn't even think of anything else. The scene when I saved Norya kept repeating in my head. I didn't have much time to be afraid then as long as I could wake up Norya as she would find out something, she got sealed just like Azu because that tomato bitch couldn't beat her.

It took me 2 days to finally calm down. I would have to stay away from that area. Was it smart to go out hunting for materials so soon? Tomato goddess was looking for Azu but what if she finds me and remembers? Norya said she probably won't but do I want to risk my life on a probability? My hands started trembling again. Wait… what if she finds out that I freed Azu, Norya, and killed her son? I went back to my corner and wrapped myself back in my tails.

What do I do? How do I fight a god? My fear returned. Why can't I control this? I have been running around all this time and nothing happened, why can't I convince myself that this will still be the case? The tips of 2 of my tails started to slowly turn red.

Ugh, I’m fine, calm down Agnis. I took deep breaths. Just a small bit of my tail tips were still red. Our tails turn bloodred starting from the tip when we’re extremely stressed. I don't know what happens if the whole tail turns red but at least this is an indication that the one with red turning tails needs a break. It must have been useful in the past when there were still a lot of us and we could take shifts but that is not possible right now. I doubt that the other races know what this means but it doesn't take a genius to know that my tails turning red is a bad thing.

I managed to calm myself down enough and the red disappeared. I jumped into the basin to freshen myself up and I dove to the bottom and tried to mine a bit but I couldn't put myself into it. I got out of the water and put my clothes to dry. A noise startled me and I started shaking again.

I tried to zap myself out of it and it didn't work.

I sat on my bed exhausted. I couldn't focus and I seemed to have turned into a wimp.

Do I talk about it? I will just stress out more people if I do. Do I hide? I can’t hide forever. I think I need to sleep. It will put a dent in my agenda but I should just sleep for a month or 2. My tails will process information and create a better plan. I might have to invest in skills to run from gods or fight them. I don't know what would work but I do know frost magic works. I still have to master the skills gramps gave me… I will put my tails on that too.

I made a comfortable ball with my tails. They will take care of everything and hopefully, I will be less stressed and afraid when I wake up. I hope I don't oversleep.
