Nightmare 4: Rubert Geis, the Inquiring Anesthetist

“Let’s see what exotic ailment do you have this time!?” Healerguy said as he rubbed his hands.

Is it me or are you enjoying this?

Healerguy ignored me and started his checkup. “Hmm just high stress and internal bleeding, that is quite mild for your standards, all your curses are gone, besides 3. Did you visit another healer? Can you tell me who?!”

I got hit by a [Great Sacrifice] …

“Oh… is the Golden Angel alright?”

Yeah, but it was my fault that she had to go that far…

“Quite strange that 3 curses had made it through that, but you weren’t suffering from them before, and you’re not now. But that could explain why you are in quite a good condition besides these injuries, fatigue, and high levels of stress. I assume you had your hands full of the current state of the world and all these abominations flying around?”

Yeah.

The temporal lock dropped as Healerguy was fixing me up. I felt my body getting into action and digesting the smoked spirit salmon I got from Chiara.

“Hey, what is going on with your body? It suddenly started to heal extremely fast?” I wonder if Chiara set me up. I forgot that spirit salmon is THE food for 9t. It is the equivalent of bread for normal spirits.

Uhm, growth spurt?

“So, let’s talk about race. I think you’re a more evolved form of human. Every test that comes back tells me you’re human, but other tests suggest otherwise. So, I had several Golden Angels look at some results, and they all agreed. So, what would you want your new race to be called?”

Uhh, that’s not important, I feel fine, thanks. Can I go now?

“Actually, that reminds me of something. Do you know Giana Kahlua by any chance?”

Uhh is this a trick question?

“How could I be so stupid! I had gotten similar results from her until she revealed that she was a nine-tailed spirit fox!”

Ugh, Giana you idiot!

“So, am I right? Are you one too?” Healerguy got awfully close, and I detected a funny smelling gas, so I backed off a bit.

I have no idea what you’re talking about!

“Barry! Bring in the fried chicken!”

I was wondering if this guy could stop being so nosy.

“I will just look for similarities if you won’t tell me!”

I won’t be bribed with chicken!

“You’re drooling though…Tell me!”

I should set Giana as my preferred healer next time…

Stolen from its original source, this story is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings.

“So, I was correct! Wait, she told me males of her species were exceedingly rare. You’re not afraid of scalpels, are you?” Healerguy said as scalpels appeared out of nowhere. I know that magic is a thing, but I didn’t detect any magic.

Right, it’s time to go!

I escaped from various forms of capture magic and left the sickbay while wondering if it was safe to reveal my race. Giana surely had made people warm up to beast kin in general. But she might get into trouble if I get connected to her, so I decided against it. Besides that, there are hardly any other problems that could arise. I already have gods after me now even fairies, I’m not afraid of humans sob not much would change if I revealed it.

I stepped outside the AA and dove to the side because a horde of fairies came at me. I had forgotten that most people stay inside because these things are everywhere. A [God of Thunder] to get rid of some and [Accel Step] brought me outside the city as I lured them out of Gittrian. I found a nice spot, unleashed [God of Thunder], tugged on the [Dimensional Anchor] and returned to Gittrian park.

This was a mistake as Healerguy had noticed that Gittrian seemed quite fairy-free and had sent adventurers out to catch me. I help the city and this is what I get… punished. I kept illusions on myself to avoid the adventurers and to not attract more fairies.

Who is going to pop the bubbles of the humans and tell them these are all fairies? I had heard about sightings of fairies nearby in the AA. Duh! They're everywhere, they probably settled on a disguise to fool humans.

I overheard adventurers talk about Healerguy who seemed to be a big shot, probably the best Golden Angel on the continent. He doesn’t behave like a big shot though. Although… there must be a reason he’s literally everywhere. Maybe he does act like a big shot, but I’m just unlucky to end up wherever he is.

Ticking sounds carried on mana waves caught my attention. A large pack of scythe dogs teleported into the city and started to attack the humans. The only known weakness of them was disengaging and shadow magic, let's see if the humans have found another weakness.

----------------------------------------

Nope, they are getting their ass kicked. This is disturbing. Come on humans! Show me why you’re the most successful race on the planet! I kept watching, but the humans weren’t doing so great, they were also moving sluggish. Well, this is awkward, why aren’t humans extinct actually?

Oh, Healerguy appeared! He is going to patch them up and they will claim victory! Well, I wasn’t wrong, but he also put the fairies to sleep. How did he do that? It gave him time to heal up everyone. He was taking his sweet time, but all the fairies were in deep slumber. That is a very strong [Sleep] as most applications don't work well when the opponents are in combat as it's better for preemptive ambushes or mobilizing threats that have already been partially or completely defeated.

That was a very good combo, actually. Just put the enemies to sleep so that you have to heal less, or you get more time to heal. He directed the adventurers to only wake up one scythe dog.

The battle continued. The humans still didn’t figure out how to beat the scythe dogs because these scythe dogs were quite fast.

a consideration came up in me. Do I tell them the weaknesses of these scythe dogs? I decided to risk it. I threw a shadow of a dagger at the scythe dog. It howled in pain and fled.

Shadow magic and disengaging works the best on these scythe dogs.

Healerguy stared at me and his look was piercing, as if he was inspecting my insides or something. He didn't have Elgards eyes, but it was getting harder and harder for me to believe that this guy was just a human. People like him must be the reason that humans haven't gone extinct yet.

“Oh you’re back! Do you know what these things are?”

Nope, but I’ve fought some before, get out of their illuminated circle, and it’s as if they forget you ever existed, besides that shadow magic is the only way I know to damage them.

Healerguy nodded to a Silent Night… I mean Toxic Donkey and the Toxic Donkey attacked a sleeping scythe dog. He didn’t one shot it but managed to kill it with some effort.

“I see, thanks. Does this apply to all these new strange creatures or this type in particular?”

Only this type.

“I guess I have to go back to work. I will distribute this information, thank you, Silver Torrent. We will speak later… if you don’t disappear again.” Healerguy went back inside the AA and 4 Toxic Donkeys appeared shortly after and started to slowly get rid of all the sleeping scythe dogs.

The ground shook moments later. Someone, somewhere used [Earthquake]. I don’t think that was Greg, Greg is too far away from here for the [Earthquake] mana ripples to travel this far. It makes sense there are still a lot of fights going on the continent, and they wouldn’t stop anytime soon.

The humans were still moving around a bit sluggish. I had forgotten that gravity had increased slightly. This might be the reason the humans lost against these scythe dogs… Am I making excuses for them now?

It was time to visit Vinny. He had taken up residence in a village near Gittrian. He probably has a hard time doing his job with all this chaos. It was a short run, so it didn’t take long for me to arrive. It took longer to get the swarm of fairies off me. His house didn’t seem to be large, it’s garden though…

I knocked on his door and waited for him to open.
