Nightmare 7: Feeding Frenzy

Nightmare 7: Feeding Frenzy

I jumped into the lake Alledra was floating on which was surprisingly devoid of fish after inspection. It makes sense though, they might have fished it empty in need of food. I did a quick scan and the fish population was dangerously low. I decided to catch fish in the Aquini river and have the biggest batch for consumption and a smaller batch to repopulate the lake. I would have to talk to Anavel, or do I call her Naqu? I had to tell the empress to make sure the citizens leave the fish in the lake alone until they can repopulate the lake.

The Aquini river was a fish paradise. I caught anything that was edible. I went against the current at first because it was easier to catch fish like this but it became quite tiring so I had to follow the current. I made sure to stay submerged because I had my tails out and didn’t want anyone to see me. The river fish were pushovers. A large catfish thought he could take me.

This fool will get a special place on the menu. I went easy on zapping him and placed him in my dimensional box after his inevitable defeat. Some colorful fish here, some river crabs there! I’m sure some people eat snails. Are those river shrimp?

Play time was over and it was time for ocean fishing after terrorizing the rivers for 2 hours. The ocean was a different beast and I knew that. It had creatures that could give me trouble if I didn’t pay attention. That’s why the river fish are pushovers, they don’t have to deal with the bullshit that’s the ocean.

The school of fish I found started flinging water magic at me. the river fish were pussies and always tried to escape.

This is more like it! I used [Waterfall] to dodge it and used [X-1]. The frost mana black hole sucked in all surrounding magic. I smacked it with a bat made out of frost and sent out a [Frost Laser] that froze the whole school of fish. Easiest catch of my life.

This gimmick worked on 2 more schools before the big guys appeared. They didn’t like that I stole all of their food. There was a big lightning eel and a transparent ice shark who gathered mana and targeted me. I had beef with lightning eels, not this one specifically but this guy was also getting a special spot on the menu.

I was forced to use [Ocean’s Wrath] else this eel would zap me and I could drown or get eaten if I passed out. I caught some smaller fish while keeping this going and used them as a snack. The ocean is an all-you-can-eat buffet! All the currents from [Ocean’s Wrath] caught the lightning attacks from the eel. The ice shark was harassing me in melee range. He was quite tough so one or 2 currents didn’t faze him. He did get obliterated when I sent 4 electrified currents at him.

I guess no ice shark on the menu…

For the first time I started to curse at my ability to vaporize things. I had to distract the eel with [7th Waterfall] so that I could get a good angle. It’s head got blasted off and the rest of him was intact for consumption. It will save the cooks from cutting its head off and dealing with that. I didn’t forget to hunt some shrimp and got face-to-face with 5 giant earth lobsters. It was my first time seeing them. It didn’t seem like I could do anything to them. I would either do 0 damage or vaporize them. This was something I had noticed before.

My power distribution is strange. I can deal well with squishy targets and targets that are demi-god tier tough, but anything right below demi god tier toughness is something I struggle with. Opponents like the Mountain and these lobsters fall in that category. I either do no damage to them or vaporize them and the area around them. Maybe I could use these to practice.

There were 5 so I can test things on 1 of them. I shifted stance and used [Boil], I waited and waited. These lobsters didn’t care. No [Boiled] lobsters, I guess. They started hurling boulders at me as retaliation. One lobster even shot an [Ice Beam] at me.

Unfortunately for them, this isn’t an [Ice Laser] so I will be fine. These lobsters are like Boulder or the Mountain but just the underwater version. Which reminded me. I can defeat them like I did in Boshi town. Break their shell like I broke the diamond.

I evaded while looking for the correct wavelength of their sturdy armor. I wouldn’t be able to vaporize it unless it was a pure compound but creating huge cracks would be enough. I tested various wavelengths by throwing daggers at them. A match in wavelength got found. I teleported to the daggers and reset the wavelength creating cracks in the armor, which I froze. The water in the cracks expanded as it turned into ice and broke the sturdy armor, revealing soft-looking pink flesh. I used [Boil] again and killed my first giant lobster. 1 down, 4 to go.

----------------------------------------

The last lobster collapsed after I used [Boil] and it also got stuffed in my dimensional box. I was exhausted as It had been 4 hours of fishing. I caught some random fish to snack on while I got ready to head back but the currents had different plans. Going against the currents would be even more exhausting so I let it take me. It also swept some medium-sized fish with it so I could continue catching dinner.

[Tempest Step] got used with the accompanying tornado kicks, which created small whirlpools that shot out [Wind blades] and dealt with the fish while I rested in a bubble and stored any fish that got one shot by the [Wind Blades] or whirlpool.

The current brought me quite deep but there was still light penetrating to this depth. I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. Over a thousand different fish species in different shapes and sizes were hunting other fish down and being hunted down simultaneously. It’s a dog-eat-dog world, but the fish version. I decided to join this feeding frenzy.

It was unclear at first why these fish did this but I discovered the secret quite soon. There was a certain thrill to snatching food from another big fish and risking getting eaten yourself. There were many fish that could gulp me down. I wouldn’t die to it but being eaten isn’t pleasant. Been there done that.

I participated in the feeding frenzy for an hour. Almost got chomped on myself several times but it was worth it. This event had by far the highest variety of fish. I wasn’t limited like the other fish here as I could punch way above my weight class so those fuckers that tried to eat me will all end up on the plate themselves. It was an interesting but exhausting experience.

The narrative has been illicitly obtained; should you discover it on Amazon, report the violation.

A failed dimensional teleport made me notice that I forgot to drop a [Dimensional Anchor] in Alledra. I was too tired to swim back so I used chain teleports, which was also exhausting.

I reached Alledra, asked around and found out where to dump all the food. The citizens were surprised but happy about the amount and types of seafood I had brought in and i made my preferences clear. I wanted to rest but there was a problem. The other guys hadn’t returned yet which was concerning as nearly 6 hours had passed.

I will fetch them. can you guys make sure we get back to a lot of food?

This city is wonderful. It’s beautiful, doesn’t have a pain-in-the-ass ruler like Zanyr, and the people are nice, moreover, they love fish! What more could a 9t wish for? These guys are the problem though, they should have been back by now. I rested for 30 minutes and ran into the jungle while scanning the area.

9 men were locked into battle against some fairies. They didn’t have food on them but I spotted that one guy had a dimensional box. I took out Nilah and made swift work of the fairies. I had no time for their bullshit. I wanted to eat and sleep.

Are you guys alright?

“Yeah, sorry. We ran into them but they just kept coming, let's get back before more come.”

“Thank you, Silver Torrent! How was your catch?”

You will see when we return, you will like it!

2 of the men were injured so it went quite slow. 2 other guys and I were in charge of blasting or cutting down any annoying fairies. The city came in sight when I got cold shivers and a headache. The sky turned red. Fire was raining down from the sky. I would have expected panic to break out in the city but most of the inhabitants of this continent were quite used to random bullshit by now. Just another Tuesday.

We went to deliver the food. Thunder rumbled and lightning was flashing left and right.

A man in an apron approached me. “The weather today seems quite shitty; we have prepared a meal for you in the Fishgrate restaurant across the street.”

Great! I’m starving!

I walked into the restaurant to get a rest from the madness that was happening outside.

A waiter approached after he delivered several plates to another table. “You had told us that you wanted a dish that used the eel, lobster and 3 types of strange fish you found right? Can we get you a special drink of us with it?”

Yeah sure! I can’t wait to find out what you guys have cooked up!

The men that helped me hunt also came in and placed their orders. It had taken me almost 2 hours to find these men and bring them back safely. The staff here had already eaten because they were quite lively. They must have worked hard to put meals together in those 2 hours. Anything goes when food is presented to hungry people.

I got my order but when I was about to dig in, the food decayed. I looked around shocked and wondered what happened to my food and saw others' food decaying too. A woman stepped in and stood at the entrance. She had black hair with feathers sticking out of it, and dark green glowing eyes. She wore a dark green and black feathered dress with a nefarious smile.

“Hiii everyone! Are you enjoying your meal!?” My mood turned for the worse. My nightmare had come true. This time it’s the real Hablena. Don’t tell me she came here with the merging of the dimensions. I confirmed the presence of divine energy. I sighed.

Guys, I’m sorry but a deity has come to ruin our party. Please leave if your life is dear to you.

I felt very annoyed and the anger and disappointment as the food that I worked hard for had decayed and disappeared. The people in the restaurant cleared out when they heard me say this. I know I should run but I’m extremely pissed right now. I couldn’t even remember how the rest of my nightmare went. Do I even need to enact the rest of it?

I tried the drink that didn’t decay. It was similar to that fizzy poison in Itris but this one tasted quite good. It had a fresh lemon taste. I quite liked it. Hablena slowly approached with a smile on her face, she was quite cute but everything about her annoyed me, she sat down across me at the table I was sitting at and crossed her legs.

“You said that I’m a deity, I wonder, how do you know that? And if you know, why didn’t you run?”

I can’t express my vexation if I run away.

She laughed , maybe she found it amusing or was laughing mockingly. “The name is Hablena. I would be delighted to turn you into a decaying pile infested with maggots.”

I finished my drink, crumpled the cup, ignited it, and threw it at her face. She dodged it and stretched out her hand to activate a skill or ability but I cut her arm off with Nilah. I quickly took some snacks out of my dimensional pocket to calm my protesting stomach.

I have had it with all this bullshit. It’s time to set my losing record straight!
