Chapter 61 - Guilt

Chapter 61 - Guilt

Yun Ling and Yun Yi talked for a few more minutes when eventually, Yun Yi said, “I still have something to do. If you may excuse me, Young Master.”

Yun Ling nodded, signaling him that it was fine for him to take his leave.

Yun Yi immediately left the place. He sensed someone coming and he really wanted to avoid that person as much as he could. After all, he had just told the fourth prince about that person being Yun Ling’s weakness. He felt guilty for putting the target on her since she was just a little girl who knew nothing of the schemes in the world yet.

A little girl suddenly came running out from the bath as she ran straight towards where Yun Ling was.

“Papa! Yun Xia is done!” Yun Xia cheerfully announced to her father when she found him.

“Young Miss! Your hair is still wet!” Yue Dongmei scolded as she ran after the little girl. She immediately wrapped her head with a towel when she caught up to her. Yun Xia was making a mess everywhere. There were drops of water left in the little girl’s trail as she ran towards her father.

Yun Ling took his eyes off the scroll as he looked at Yun Xia and Yue Dongmei. With a gentle voice, he said, “Xiaxia, don’t cause trouble for Yue Dongmei.”

“Yes, Papa!” Yun Xia said and then obediently let herself be taken care of by her caretaker.

Yue Dongmei let out a sigh as she patiently dried the little girl’s hair. Yun Xia had even wet her clothes she just wore because she didn’t properly dry her hair.

“Young Miss, we should change your clothes.”

Yun Xia pouted and was about to complain, but one look from her father made her compliant.

“Okay,” she said as she followed Yue Dongmei to her room to get a change of clothes.

Yun Ling smiled at her, “That’s a good girl.”

Those words made the little girl happy.

Yue Dongmei shook her head at the little girl but she was happy for her. She could understand why Yun Xia was desperate for Yun Ling’s love. It was because she had always yearned for a father. Back at their home, Yun Xia was quite a lonely child. She didn’t have anyone to play with. Her mother was always busy. Her maternal grandfather was too cold to anyone, even to her and to her mother. Not many people knew that she was her mother’s daughter since her origin was a well-kept secret in their home. Their home was such an unforgiving place for a little girl like her. She couldn’t even go out with her mother openly. The only solace she had in that cold place was the picture book she had of the several types of lesser beasts that her mother gifted to her.

She glanced at Yun Ling from the corner of her eyes as they walked towards the little girl’s room.

That was the reason why Yun Xia got easily attached to her father. Even though Yun Ling was far from an ideal father, he was far better compared to her maternal grandfather and the others back in their home. Not to mention, she was always starving for paternal love. Yun Xia might have tried to hide it but Yue Dongmei and her mother could sense that the little girl would always be envious to see children with their father. Yun Xia’s mother would be sad every time she saw the little girl be like that.

Just as Yue Dongmei was sneaking glances at Yun Ling, Yun Ling too was secretly looking at her as he frowned. He was a bit curious why she was looking at him strangely but didn’t think too much of it as he went back to writing the Thunder God Flash Supreme Art on the scroll.

“Young Master.”

He was once again disturbed from his work when Snow Fang walked towards him along with the Lion King Cub following at his side.

“Snow Fang,” Yun Ling said. The wolf had proved to be a valuable ally to him, he would naturally treat him well. “How was your stay here?”

“It’s nice. Far nicer than in the mountains,” Snow Fang telepathically said as he looked around him.

“Waow!” the Lion King Cub joyfully cried out at the side, as if trying to answer him, making Yun Ling chuckle. Looks like this fella could understand their language a little.

“My daughter and I are going to go out later. Do you want to join us?”

“Will it be dangerous?” the wolf asked.

“Of course, not. It’s just inside the capital,” Yun Ling snorted. Who would dare lay a hand on him inside the capital? After he had made an example of those who opposed him years ago, no one dared to mess with him anymore.

Suddenly, he thought of someone. Well, that certain person might try to make a move on him but he doubted that he would target him openly.

Upon hearing what Yun Ling said, the wolf shook its head. Since there was nothing dangerous in them going out, then he could be at ease.

“I should rest for a bit more since I’ve taken the Longevity Fruit earlier than intended. I want to stabilize my cultivation realm and improve it if I could,” the wolf said. He wanted to take this time to cultivate.

Yun Ling understood the wolf’s intention. Normally, he would’ve just let the wolf cultivate since they were just inside the capital anyway but after thinking it over, he changed his mind and said, “On second thought, you should come with us. Although I said it wouldn’t be dangerous, some people might try to attack us. When that happens, forget about me. Protect my daughter. Make that a priority.”

Although he didn’t really think that the fourth prince would attack them in broad daylight, Yun Ling didn’t want to take chances. It would’ve been too late for regret if something were to happen.

Snow Fang merely raised a brow at him.

“Understood.”

“Papa, I’m done changing!” Yun Xia came hopping back to where Yun Ling was. Yue Dongmei was following right behind her at a steady pace.

Yun Ling merely chuckled at his daughter as he rolled the scroll and placed it in his storage ring. He was not yet done working but he will continue writing later after his trip with Yun Xia in the capital.

“Well then, let’s have a breakfast first,” Yun Ling said, looking at his daughter, Yue Dongmei, Snow Fang, and the Lion King Cub.
