Yun Xia sat down on a chair as she looked at Yue Dongmei who was at her side, unconscious on her bed.
When she woke up and found out that Yue Dongmei was ‘sick’, she immediately came to her side and watched over her. Yue Dongmei was one of the people she treasured in her life. When her mother couldn’t take care of her, Yue Dongmei would try her best to be at her side. She would be the one who would defend her when someone was being mean to her back in her home. That was why she couldn’t help but be worried when she found out that Yue Dongmei had gotten ‘sick’.
“Papa, will Big Sister be fine?” she asked with a pitiful expression on her face.
Yun Ling felt guilty upon seeing that. He was in Yue Dongmei’s room the whole time, looking after her even before Yun Xia came here. He already felt guilty for forcing Yue Dongmei to tell him the truth earlier, however, Yun Xia’s hurt expression made him feel even more guilty than he already did.
“She will… she just needs some rest,” Yun Ling comfortingly said. However, he couldn’t help but be worried. Would Yue Dongmei really be fine? He wasn’t sure. Their physicians already checked her up but they too were clueless about her condition. If even their clan’s medical experts didn’t know, then it would be least likely for him to know. But since he was the one who forced her into that state, then he would find a way to make sure she got better. That, he swore to himself.
Yun Ling clenched his fist as he thought back to what Yue Dongmei said just before she fainted.
‘The companion of Yun Xia’s mother… he must surely be involved with this,’ he thought with a cold look on his face. Given how hesitant and wary Yue Dongmei was because of the companion of Yun Xia’s mother, it wasn’t really strange to think that way.
He let out a sigh as he looked at Yue Dongmei. That woman was much colder than any woman he had ever met in his life but right now… she might be unconscious but she looked even colder than usual.
Literally.
Her face was emotionless just as one would expect from someone sleeping, however, she was incredibly pale. He walked over to her and placed the back of his hand on her cheek.
It was cold.
He let out a sigh once again. Her condition didn’t improve at all even after their clan’s physicians administered some treatment on her. She was just as cold as he had been when the physicians first inspected her.

KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK
Yun Ling opened the door when he heard someone knock on it.
When he opened it, he saw both his father and uncle together with a serious look on their faces.
“She suffered a backlash?” Yun Zhan asked his son after looking at Yue Dongmei right from his position. He was in a meeting earlier with his father, elder brother, and one of their clan’s strongest expert regarding the New Dawn Country, Yun Ling’s meeting with Yun Xia’s mother, the matter with the immortal, then the emperor’s summons, and one of the Twelve Heavenly Grand Treasures that Yun Xia’s mother said to Yun Ling. It took them hours before they were done and then, he received news that Yue Dongmei fainted after suffering some sort of backlash in her body.
Yun Ling glanced at Yun Xia for a bit, making sure she wasn’t looking or listening to them before nodding his head at his father.
“Let’s talk outside,” he said as he closed the door, leading both Yun Zhan and Yun Cang away from Yue Dongmei’s room.
“What exactly happened, son?” Yun Zhan asked him after getting far away from Yue Dongmei’s room.
Yun ling sighed.
“After meeting with Xiaxia’s mother, I forced Yue Dongmei to tell me the truth about why they are here… about who Xiaxia’s mother really is… about the war… and the Twelve Heavenly Grand Treasure that Xiaxia’s mother was talking about,” Yun Ling started with a sigh. “Unfortunately, Yue Dongmei was probably bound to some oath to not say anything too important to us. Because I forced her to do exactly that, the oath activated some type of curse and as a result, she suffered a backlash in her body.”
Yun Zhan was silent for a bit before asking, “Was it my granddaughter’s mother who made her take an oath?”
Standing at the side was Yun Cang who nodded at Yun Zhan’s question. If Yun Zhan didn’t ask Yun Ling that, he would’ve asked him himself.
“I don’t think so… if it was Xiaxia’s mother, I doubt Yue Dongmei would’ve trusted her that much,” Yun Ling said while shaking his head. He found it hard to believe that it was Yun Xia’s mother who was responsible for that. No, it was too unlikely. He might not seem like it but he had been observing Yue Dongmei whenever she was at his side. He noticed that she thought highly of Yun Xia’s mother and she was incredibly loyal to her. If Yun Xia’s mother was responsible for that, then like what he had said to his father and uncle, Yue Dongmei wouldn’t have trusted her and be that loyal to her at all.
Yun Cang frowned when he heard his nephew’s response.
“Then who could it be?”
“Her companion,” Yun Ling said.
“Companion? What do you mean?”
“Before Yue Dongmei passed out, she warned me about the companion of Xiaxia’s mother… she said he was a dangerous individual.”
“What else did she say?” Yun Zhan asked.
Yun Ling let out a sigh.
“That was all she managed to tell me before she passed out.”
Yun Zhan no longer asked him as he thought back to the one accompanying Yun Xia’s mother when she called Yun Ling out.
He might have only been observing them in some room in an inn near that alley but he could feel that he was dangerous. Whoever it was, Yun Zhan was sure that he would have a hard time defeating him when worse came to worse that night.
“I see…” Yun Cang muttered as he analyzed what his nephew told him.
“So, do you have something in mind, son?” Yun Zhan asked him when he noticed a determined look on Yun Ling’s face.
“I have,” Yun Ling said with a cold gaze. “Whoever that guy is, I will never let him off easily once I manage to get my hands on him.”
