269 : Contemplation

After finishing up the situation with Qin Song, Xu Yue then turned her attention somewhere else, and began looking at some other geniuses and weird beings.

Rather unfortunately though, even though she had found some hidden geniuses, none of them could impress Xu Yue.

At the same time, she did not find any weird cultivators that could interest her at all, as such, Xu Yue then turned her attention back onto herself.

...

As she began thinking about herself, Xu Yue couldn't help but subconsciously fall into thought and began ignoring the outside world.

Who was Xu Yue?

This was the question that Xu Yue had posed to herself.

Perhaps back when she was younger, Xu Yue would have been able to answer this question without any hesitation, but at the moment, Xu Yue couldn't help but struggle to find an answer.

Back then, Xu Yue was extremely unreasonable, and would kill or torture someone over the slightest grievance without any sign or warning.

Even though Xu Yue still did not put much thought into killing, right now, she unless it proved useful, Xu Yue no longer tortured people, as she could no longer be bothered to do something like that.

Or was this the case?

At this very moment, it was as if a bolt of lighting had passed through Xu Yue's body, causing her eyes to pop wide open.

Right now, Xu Yue realized something that had been laying at the back of her mind for some time by now.

She had become a coward.

The reason why Xu Yue now instantly killed people was very simple, she now considered death to be worse than torture, and that by torturing someone, Xu Yue was giving them the pleasure of still being alive.

This change in opinion by Xu Yue was caused by a very simple thing, she had begun valuing her own life, and obviously, fearing death, more than ever.

Back when Xu Yue was still young, death did not scare her in the slightest, and as long as she could achieve her goals, she would be wiling to risk her life without any hesitation.

But as she thought if she would do the same right now, Xu Yue couldn't help but shake her head, knowing the truth, at the moment, Xu Yue would not be wiling to risk her death for benefits.

If you stumble upon this tale on Amazon, it's taken without the author's consent. Report it.

"But is this really a bad thing?" mumbled Xu Yue as she slightly narrowed her eyes, thoughts swirling within her mind.

Why should Xu Yue have to risk her life for anything, if she waited long enough, and became powerful enough, she would be able to easily get revenge or get anything she had wanted.

As she thought about it, Xu Yue suddenly realized something.

Throughout all of her life, Xu Yue hadn't yet encountered anything that she couldn't obtain if she waited some more time.

The more Xu Yue thought about this, the more wiling she became to not risk her life.

Of course, Xu Yue knew that she would not be able to hide from life and death battles that were inescapable, and would not shy away from them because of her fear of death.

After thinking about this topic for a few years, Xu Yue then began thinking about something else.

Xu Yue was not a sword cultivator, that was something she knew from a long time ago, but she also wasn't indifferent to the sword, rather, she enjoyed practicing sword techniques quite a bit, but sadly, she had to abandon them for now, as she did not have any time to waste at the moment.

It was rather paradoxical, Xu Yue was not a sword cultivator, but she enjoyed practicing sword techniques quite a lot.

After some more thought, Xu Yue was quickly able to find what type of cultivator she was, after only a few months of thinking and searching within her.

Xu Yue was the lowest of the low, and part of the shallowest type of cultivators, part of those that usually went nowhere and didn't achieve many things throughout their lives.

Cultivators that craved only power, without any other goal they wanted to reach.

Even the cultivators that earned for eternal life still had a goal to reach for.

These cultivators were quite disdained in the Three Thousand Regions, but compared to them, Xu Yue, and some other similar cultivators were different in one domain.

Power.

Cultivators that desired only power would be disdained, up until they gained that power, and towered over the other cultivators.

In fact, any type of cultivator, as long as they were powerful compared to those around themselves, would be respected.

But were the cultivators that desired only power really that shallow? Were they really worse than those who earned for eternal life?

As Xu Yue thought about this, she suddenly discovered a bit of a paradox.

Even though Xu Yue had begun fearing death, she still did not desire eternal life, rather, she was indifferent to it.

...

As she stared at herself in the mirror, Xu Yue, who had just taken a bath for the first time in thousands of years, couldn't help but fall into thought.

Even though her body did not ever become dirty, and was infinitely cleaner than that of mortals, after taking a bath, Xu Yue still could not help but feel somewhat different.

After thinking about it for a few decades, Xu Yue no longer examined herself, as she had reached a conclusion on what type of person she was.

She was someone with power, who could change the lives of other beings based on her whims, this was all that mattered.

After looking at her figure in the mirror, Xu Yue couldn't help but bite her lip.

"If only there was someone as beautiful as me existed," mumbled Xu Yue as another copy of herself suddenly appeared behind her.

"So narcissistic, desiring another copy of yourself," mumbled Yue, Xu Yue's former heart demon as she occupied that body.

A long time ago, back when Xu Yue was injured, Yue once again fused with the latter and became one being once again.

But now, for whatever reason, Xu Yue had recreated Yue once again.
