Chuck made several trips to the alchemy guild in the next few weeks. It turned out his bicycle idea was simpler than he thought and an experimental pair was soon produced. The tires took the longest as the rubber substitute had to cure. Soon enough he was teaching Tess how to ride a bicycle with the guild members looking on in curiosity.
She learned quickly and Chuck followed her doing loops around the inside of the warehouse. When she got a little more practice they could go out in the street. He would need far larger ones if Raz and Maz wanted their own however.
His dead cellphone had been given to Bright to see if he could get it charged. Chuck didn’t really care if Bright failed and the phone was destroyed since it was already a useless brick. Bright was fascinated by the device and experimented with it for a few days before he succeeded.
The downside was that he would need to bring it back to Bright every time it needed recharged but it was better than nothing. Chuck had fun showing Bright and the guild members all the functions of the phone. Maybe it would give them ideas for other inventions. One of the first things he did was take a picture with Tess to commemorate bringing the cellphone back from the dead.
Later he would let Tess and Maz listen to the music downloaded on the phone and show them the games. Now he wished he had a projector to hook the phone up to so they could watch the few movies that were on the phone. Tess and the siblings would just need to take turns with the phone. Hopefully there wouldn’t be too many fights over it.

The prototype tire was holding up fine so he gave the alchemy guild another tire to repeat the process. Slowly but surely he would get all the tires replaced. Now, if he could just find something to replace the broken windows. Both side windows were broken and the windshield was badly cracked. Somewhere along the line the rear window had also acquired a crack.
The front window was the most important however. Chuck asked the guild if there was some kind of magic device that produced wind or another kind of barrier. It turned out there was but they were large and were used to cover large areas. For what Chuck had in mind, modifications would need to be made.
Chuck went over what he wanted and in a week’s time a prototype was prepared. It was a rectangular box that he strapped to the dashboard. He had no idea how it worked as with most magical devices. All he had to do was press his hand on it to turn it on and press it again to turn it off. He would need to replace the crystal that powered it every so often.
It created a weak invisible barrier around the windshield that would take the place of the glass. It took some adjustments to make the barrier fit the opening but once done it worked perfectly. With it in place, Chuck broke the old glass out and his visibility was instantly improved. It would definitely be nice without all the cracks in his way.
He doubted most people could afford such a device much less supplying it with more crystals. Chuck had traded the rights to the bicycle for it and a lifetime supply of crystals plus the two prototype bicycles. If Raz and Maz wanted bicycles they could discuss that in the future.
