Chuck Miller was your average, ordinary 17 year old farm kid. He had brown hair, blue eyes, and was short but skinny with a muscular build from doing farm work and playing sports - mostly basketball and baseball. He had been on a hunting trip with some friends over the weekend and was heading back to his parents farm when he got a flat tire.
Chuck wasn’t too surprised since the tires on his beat up pickup were getting worn out. He had been putting off getting a new set since new tires were expensive. He was just about done changing the tire when the temperature suddenly dropped, making him shiver. He looked up as the sky turned from bright blue to pitch black and then quickly looked back down as the ground started to shake. “What the hell is going on?” Chuck cried as he grabbed onto the truck to keep from falling over. He gasped as a dark pit opened up below him and screamed as he and the truck began to fall.
Chuck awoke with a start, jumping to his feet and breathing heavily. The sky was blue again and his pickup was still next to him but something was off. His surroundings didn’t look familiar. There was also something weird about the sun but he couldn’t quite put his finger on it - a little too orange maybe and too large. Where before he had been on a gravel road surrounded by pastures and fields, he was now next to a dirt track with a forest on one side and grasslands on the other. The colors of the grass and trees were also off. Instead of the greens he was used to, there was a crazy mix of blues, reds, and even black foliage. “Definitely not in Kansas anymore. I just hope there aren’t any wicked witches.” Chuck mumbled to himself while taking in the wild scenery. “This is just like one of those isekai stories.” he thought to himself. One of his friends was into anime so he’d seen his fair share but never thought it would really happen.
Chuck dusted off his t-shirt and jeans and took stock of his situation. He didn’t appear to be injured. His pickup also seemed to be undamaged, or at least not any more damaged than it had been. It was a faded, square body blue pickup with numerous dents and scratches. It got him from point A to point B which was all that mattered to Chuck. “How long was I out?” Chuck muttered as he fished his cell phone out of his pocket. For some reason it was completely dead. After looking around again he sighed, put the cell phone back in his pocket, and decided to finish putting on the spare tire. He then put his tools away in the storage box behind the cab. He threw the flat tire in the truck bed next to the pheasant and two rabbits he had shot on his trip.

With his fingers crossed, Chuck got in and tried starting his truck. Luckily it only took two tries before it fired up. Chuck pumped his fists in celebration before quickly shutting it off again. He only had a little over half a tank and had the feeling getting more gas would be a problem, if not impossible. He didn’t have a phone charger but doubted his phone would have gotten a signal anyway, so he tossed it on the seat beside him. His pickup was an extended cab and he had his camping supplies behind his seat, which he was profoundly thankful for. He also had a .22 rifle and a 12 gauge shotgun with some spare ammo behind the seat. If he remembered correctly, there was a box of shotgun slugs in the glove compartment that might come in handy.
The dirt track he was on was barely wider than the pickup and had two narrow ruts down it. Chuck decided the track had to go somewhere and since he wasn’t sure which direction he should go, he just went the way the truck was facing. He started it up again and flipped through the radio before leaving, but as he expected, got nothing but static. “Damn. I would really like to know where the hell I am.” Chuck said to himself before putting the pickup in gear and heading off. The dirt track was rough but at least it was dry and he didn’t need to use the four wheel drive. He knew there was a good chance he would never get back home and would start missing his family and friends, but at the moment he was too excited to start his isekai adventure.
