46 - Gathering Information

Chuck woke up in the arms of a brown haired, fluffy eared dog girl with a large fluffy tail. Tess must have changed during the night. He ran his hand over the silky ears which caused her to stir and open her eyes. “Good morning beautiful.” He said, still caressing her floppy ears. “Hmm, good morning Chuck.” She murmured, leaning in to give him a kiss. “You want to go to the guild with me today?” He asked, kissing her back. “Sure, but remember you still need to study your reading and writing.” She reminded him. He had been slacking off lately with his studies. It was good Tess was holding his feet to the fire since he did want to learn. Chuck decided to have a learning session with Tess before they went anywhere.

After the study session and doing a few more things around the house and yard, it was lunch time already. They all sat down to eat together and after lunch he finally headed to the guild with Tess. The guild master was busy unfortunately but Nox was able to help them. “Do you have any records of this weapon or the otherworlder who owned it? I chose it as my reward from the governor. Fol didn’t know anything but said the alchemy guild might have information on it.” Chuck asked, showing Nox the gun. “We do indeed have extensive records on otherworlders. I have not seen it before, but if it was in Axtol’s vault then it narrows down who it could have belonged to. Follow me to the library.” Nox said, studying the weapon before handing it back and leading them to the guild’s library. Chuck had seen it briefly during his tour of the guild but it was still an impressive amount of books.

Chuck and Tess waited at a table while Nox looked through books on the many shelves. Nox finally found what he was looking for and sat down at the table. He opened a book in front of Chuck and pointed at the hand drawn picture. It showed the taser and gun but of course Chuck couldn’t read the descriptions. “It seems your weapon is called the Infinite Bolt Caster and was one of a pair that the last otherworlder to live in Axtol used. The other is called the Lightning Staff.” Nox said, consulting the book. From the names, Chuck guessed the guild probably named them as he couldn’t imagine that was what they were actually called. “The governor at the time acquired them when the otherworlder was killed during a mission in the Howling Wood. After recovering the weapons, they couldn’t get the Infinite Bolt Caster to work.” Nox continued. Chuck gulped as he could have easily died in the Howling Wood as well. He wondered if all his property would have then gone to the vault. “It says the Lightning Staff could stun the largest creatures and the Infinite Bolt Caster could kill with a single shot and was able to shoot all day long.” Nox said, reading from the book.

From the name and description it seemed like the power source was more impressive than he thought. It could be the reason he had found no indicator on the gun of the battery life or how many times he could fire it. If that was the case, his ammunition worries were over. It would still be nice if the guild managed to get something to work for his others guns but that was a long shot. With this, he should be able to defend himself and loved ones at least. “If you are interested, I have heard there will be more otherworlder items in the annual auction that will be held next month in the capital. You won’t get them cheap however.” Nox said. That gave Chuck something to think about. He would like to see more things from other worlds but he also didn’t want to waste his hard earned money. It would be nice to visit the capital again and he didn’t have to actually buy anything. The way Tess looked at him, he could tell she wouldn’t mind a trip to the capital either. Plus he had a month to try and earn some more money to put toward the auction. He would have to set up a meeting with Alz to run some ideas past him.
