On the trip back they told each other about their respective worlds. It seemed their cities consisted of giant crystals and they were able to travel between worlds on crystal ships. A lot of it was hard for Chuck to understand. He did learn that instead of food, Bright just needed sunlight and a few different minerals now and then. His people were pacifists and didn’t take lives. It all sounded like it was straight out of one of his sci-fi books.
Chuck was still cautious however, and didn’t know if he could fully trust Bright. After they reached his pickup, Bright was overjoyed and happily studied it inside and out. He opened the hood for Bright and explained how the engine worked. “You were exceptionally lucky to be transported with your vehicle. It is a great opportunity to see the technology from your world.” Bright exclaimed.
On the way back, Bright rode in the back with Torj, Raz, Kyt, and the books and insect parts. It was a tight fit. The drone creature ran behind them and was easily able to keep pace with his truck. Chuck was curious about what all it was capable of. Bright seemed interested in the music that Tess and Maz were playing as well. Chuck was glad to see Axtol as they crested the last hill.
The guards greeted them but were taken aback when they noticed Bright and the drone trailing behind them. Chuck explained the situation and they seemed to accept the fact that Bright was an otherworlder. Maybe it helped coming from the mouth of another otherworldler. It could also be that golems weren’t as prevalent or there was no longer a taboo. They still summoned Captain Nass who was also surprised to see Bright.

“Two otherworlders now. Axtol will surely be famous.” Nass laughed. “I’m going to take him to the alchemy guild for now.” Chuck replied. “That’s what I was about to recommend. I will inform the governor that we have another visitor.” Nass said smiling. Chuck and party headed to the guild after saying goodbye to Nass. Once there Torj and Kyt took the bug parts and said goodbye as well.
They were planning on giving half to Chuck but he told them to keep it in thanks for guiding them. In turn, he was planning on giving them half of the profits for when the books were sold but they refused. Chuck decided he would treat them to a meal sometime. He introduced Bright to Nox but unfortunately the guild master was out at the moment. Chuck was glad Bright could speak the language since he didn’t want to give up his translator. Speaking of which, he wondered how Bright was speaking at all since he didn’t seem to have a mouth.
Nox eagerly led Bright to a room as he was sure Alz would want the new otherworlder to stay at the guild. Chuck promised to stop back the next day to check on him. He also needed to show Alz the book collection. They said goodbye to Bright for now and drove home. It was good to be back. The trip didn’t go quite how he thought it would but they all came back safely and they found some interesting things.
Since Bright said he was a scientist, maybe he could help the guild with some of his projects, like the ammunition for instance. The laser gun was nice but he was fond of his shotgun. They brought the books into the house for now. He wanted Tess and Raz to look through them to give him an idea of what exactly they had and how valuable they might be. He didn’t think Alz would try and rip him off but it was always better to be knowledgeable. His bed felt good after camping out for a few days and Tess felt even better. She was extra wild after having to wait so long. Chuck slept well that night, hugging Tess closely.
