After his life threatening adventure, Chuck was content with staying inside for the rest of the week. When the migration was over, the same siren like noise went off. He cautiously stuck his head out the door and went outside. Chuck was greeted by a pile of bug corpses scattered across his yard and the street. R2 was still standing guard and was covered head to toe in gore.
There was so much gore that Chuck couldn’t actually tell if there was any damage or not. Two of the spears were definitely bent. R2 would need a good cleaning but appeared functional. They had a lot of work ahead of them to process all the bodies. It should make them some good money anyway. The others came out of the house and marveled at the dead bugs as well.
Raz and Maz returned to the house to get the tools for breaking down the insects. Chuck ordered R2 to drag the closest bugs from the street into the yard as well. He would let others deal with those farther down the street as they had plenty to deal with the way it was. They all got to work but didn’t finish before it started getting dark. They decided to stop for the day and washed up.
The next day, they managed to finish up by noon. Everything useful was loaded into the truck and the rest was piled up and set on fire. Smoke rose from similar fires throughout the city. R2 and the siblings stayed to watch the fire while Tess and Chuck drove off to sell the insect parts. They had washed R2 and verified there was no damage besides a few new dents. Chuck would buy new spears while he was out.

He planned to sell to the alchemy guild first and anything left would be taken to the merchant guild. It felt good to be headed to the guild after a week of being cooped up inside the house. There didn’t appear to be too much damage to the city as they drove down the street. People were busily moving around and cleaning things up. They looked in surprise as Chuck drove by with his pickup piled high with bug parts.
They reached the alchemy guild and parked by the warehouse to unload. Tess seemed happy to be outside as well and was smiling happily. Unfortunately half of the stores were still not open. Chuck would check on the weapons shop on the way back home. They met Nox and haggled over the price of the big parts. Luckily the alchemy guild would buy everything so he didn’t need to go to the merchant guild. They were also in luck and the weapons shop was open.
Chuck decided to buy R2 three new metal spears and also three short swords. With the threat of the flying bugs gone, he decided short swords would be good enough to defend the property but wanted spears also just in case. He would store the spears in the garage for now. On the other hand, maybe it would be a good idea to have R2 use one spear and two swords. It was something to think about anyway.
Tess pointed out a few food stalls open already so they stopped and grabbed some skewers to bring home. It was good to eat skewers again as well. The annual migration was definitely a pain. The bug parts had brought more than he was expecting so that helped. Raz and Maz appreciated the food when they got home and R2 was swinging around the new weapons. Chuck figured that meant it liked the swords.
