63 - Special Delivery

The new master had bestowed it a name and given orders to follow. The memories of the old master were still present but upon reactivation, new combat information was installed. Combat was tested and the new master was pleased. A mission was given to it along with detailed instructions that must be followed. The first part of the mission was easy, stay still and pretend to be inactive.

After the master had left, it only took half a day before someone broke into the garage. Sensors recorded everything for later playback as it was loaded onto a wagon bound for the capital. It followed the master’s orders and played dead for the time being. The thieves had not removed its primary weapons or the hidden note, so things were going according to plan.

It was smuggled into the capital inside a large wooden crate and delivered to a shady looking warehouse. From the warehouse, it was transported to a large estate and moved into a basement. It sat there for a few hours before being unpacked and moved to a gallery filled with various golems. It stood there for a time before anyone arrived. An extravagantly dressed avian kin with some servants and guards walked up to it. It’s sensors started recording again.

”What an exquisite golem. It is a perfect addition to the collection. It is unfortunate that otherworlder wouldn’t see reason. He has cost me a lot so I think a lesson may still be in order.” The avian kin said while inspecting the robot. “It was nice of him to repair the damage however. Because of that we’ll leave his lover alone for now. I hear he keeps two beast kin servants. Have them killed and place their heads on his doorstep. It is only fair, he killed some of my servants after all.”

R2 had heard enough for its orders to kick in. The claw not holding a weapon shot out and grabbed the avian by its scrawny neck, lifting it off the ground. It uncoiled both arms holding the metal bars and prepared for combat. The guards pushed the shocked servants out of the way and drew their weapons. R2 kept the avian between it and the guards while it headed for the door. “You fools, save me. Don’t let it leave.” The avian wheezed out while reaching into its robes.

The avian found what it was looking for and held out a small rectangular device. “Golems, save me!” Half of the golems in the room started moving at the command. The rest didn’t appear functional. Most of the golems looked like they were made of stone but a couple were metallic in nature. Its orders were to not kill living beings but that did not extend to the golems. As they advanced, it swung the metal bars and shattered their bodies.

It took the nearest golems head off with a swing and then when the golem continued moving, pierced its chest with the second bar. For the next golems, it ignored the head and went straight for the chest. It made short work of them while continuing to use the avian boss as a meat shield to keep the guards at bay. The guards split up so R2 was forced to engage one of them. It blocked a strike from a sword and countered with its third arm’s bar which blew the guard into the wall.

The guard slumped unconscious and the remaining guard decided to run and get help. R2 ignored him and walked to the exit while fending off the golems. The metal golems gave it some trouble but once knocked over, they had a hard time getting back up. The avian continued yelling for help to no avail. R2 broke through the door and exited the building. In the courtyard were more guards. It again held the avian before it and brandished the two metal bars after dispatching the last golem.

They formed a circle around R2 as it entered the courtyard. R2 readjusted its grip on the iron bars by grabbing them in the center. It then started rotating its wrists, spinning the bars faster and faster. It started slowly walking toward the gate while the guards attacked. The spinning bars repelled the attacks and those that got too close were sent flying.

It reached the gate and used one of its feet to kick it open. The guards were getting frustrated as they could do nothing to stop the robot and free their boss who was still yelling at them. Pedestrians on the street stopped and stared at all the commotion. R2 had been to the capital before with the old master but things had changed. The new master had given all that was needed to find the nearest city guards.

It surveyed its surroundings, looking for landmarks. It found what it was looking for and oriented itself toward the nearest city guard station and started walking. Some of the guards followed, unsure what to do. The pedestrians gave it a wide berth. As it got near the station, city guards appeared. The avian started shouting at them for help. R2 stopped in front of the guards and retrieved the note the master had given it and handed it to the guards.

This golem is the property of the Otherworldler Chuck Miller. It was stolen by the person it has captured. It has made a recording of the theft which it will hand over to you. Simply pour magic into the crystal and it will activate the recording. Captain Lux has been notified about this golem and is sure to be on his way. Please take the thief into custody.

R2 ejected a small crystal and handed it to the guards before picking back up the bar it had temporarily dropped. More guards arrived and they looked at the note and managed to activate the crystal. The avian prisoner was speechless as a holographic image of he and his men appeared, complete with sound. R2 dropped the avian in front of the guards unceremoniously. The avian’s guards had disappeared in the meantime. It didn’t take long before Captain Lux arrived and took over. “Good work R2. We’ll handle it from here and get you back to your owner. I’m sure he will be happy yo see you.” Lux said as the avian was taken away.
