The drive to the capital was uneventful and relaxing. It wasn’t quite as passionate as their first solo trip together but nice nonetheless. They weren’t in a hurry so Chuck drove at a leisurely pace which Tess appreciated. They still reached the capital in good time and the guards waved them through.
Chuck had plenty of cash so wanted to stay at a good inn. He wished there was a hot spring since that was a staple of an isekai fantasy world but so far he hadn’t found any. He let Tess guide him to a good one since she was more familiar with the city. This particular day she was a cute girl with Medusa like hair that moved around on its own and hissed at him. Chuck was always amused at her choices.
She directed Chuck to an inn near the nobles district. The inn was so upscale that it didn’t even have a sign out front and if it wasn’t for Tess, he would have never guessed it was an inn. Tess just giggled at his confusion and wrapped herself around his arm while guiding him inside. The interior was certainly fancy.
Tess talked with the well dressed avian receptionist and got them a room. There was even a place for him to park his pickup off the street. It was still early so they decided to walk around for a while. Tess was smiling happily and seemed to enjoy being back in the capital. They held hands and strolled down the street, doing some window shopping with R2 following a few feet behind.
You weren’t suppose to carry around open blades in the capital, so for this trip Chuck had settled with arming R2 with only two swords. He had made sheaths for the swords and strapped them to the robot’s cylindrical torso. Chuck was also wearing the laser gun on his hip so he felt fairly safe. R2 was getting more stares than Chuck and Tess and people were giving it a wide berth.

He guessed that rumors of R2’s battle prowess had circulated around the capital after the crooked noble was imprisoned. The shiny robot was definitely hard to miss. Chuck didn’t mind and found it amusing that the imposing, scary looking citizens of the city were wary of R2. They enjoyed themselves until it started getting dark and then headed back to the inn. On the way back, they grabbed some food from a street vendor.
They spent a romantic evening in their lavish room and slept in the next morning. The next couple days were spent as tourists, walking around the city and enjoying themselves. They of course had to stop at his girlfriends favorite park and go to her favorite restaurant. The following day Tess would be taking him to visit her clan which he was looking forward to.
The day of the visit arrived and Tess led him to a part of the city in the noble district he hadn’t been to yet. She was a lamia today with a snakes body below the waist and a cute girl with red hair on top. Chuck didn’t know if this was to show off to her clan or what. She could move surprisingly fast by slithering around with her reddish snake tail.
They stopped in front of a large compound made of stone blocks. The guard out front seemed surprised to see them. Tess said a few words and the guard went inside for a minute before coming back out and they were let in. Chuck looked around but everything seemed pretty normal. He wasn’t sure what he expected to see but the term clan made him imagine a few different things. They walked through a hallway to a large room filled with cat girls. Chuck’s jaw dropped open as a chorus of “Welcome Otherworlder!” greeted his ears.
