83 - Progress

After all the excitement of the unwanted visitors, the rest of the week was uneventful. Tess helped Chuck study and they relaxed. The visitors had been from the two nearest kingdoms. Chuck was sure they would attempt something again and it was also possible that other kingdoms would try the same.

He would just need to stay vigilant. Nass promised to let him know if any suspicious strangers entered town. Axtol didn’t usually get that many visitors besides the normal traders from the capital. In the meantime Chuck wanted to learn as much as he could about the different kingdoms.

At this point he could read and write fairly well and only occasionally needed help from Tess. They had found a few books related to geography and the different kingdoms which he went through with Tess. She knew more than him but was no expert on the subject. Raz and Maz had little education and although he had offered to help them study as well, they weren’t that interested.

His work with the alchemy guild was progressing. So far the experimental tire was holding up but he wanted to test it more before replacing any of the other tires. Chuck had heard they were testing out replacing wagon wheels with a similar product. The guild had also replicated all the pickup’s fluids that Chuck had given them but were still working on the ammunition problem.

Chuck had been racking his brain to think of other interesting products besides the music boxes but hadn’t come up with much. It seemed this world either already had something similar, had no use for it, or magic did the same thing only better.

The story has been taken without consent; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.

At first he thought bicycles might be a good idea after seeing the new tire. They were fairly simple to make and with the new rubber like substance bicycle tires were possible. The only problem was that most of the monster like denizens of this world were both very strong and very fast.

He figured most could probably run as fast as a bicycle fairly easily and with their strength, the bicycle would need to be reinforced to survive the abuse. It might work for a few of the races and it would have a certain fun and unique factor to it. Chuck idly wondered if it would be possible to make it automatically adjust to people like the magic chairs did.

It would be something to run past the alchemy guild anyway. He was sure Tess would enjoy riding one so that was excuse enough to build one right there. If he was able to build a pair of prototypes then he and Tess could go on bicycle rides around town. He wasn’t exactly hurting for money but another revenue stream besides the music boxes would be a good thing.

Chuck tried to come up with some recipes that he could remember from earth as well but he had never been much of a cook. This world’s ingredients were a little too different and he still wasn’t familiar with a lot of them so it had been a failure so far. Tess and Maz were much better cooks than him so the cooking was usually left up to them.

The next time he went to the guild he also wanted to visit with Bright about charging his cell phone. Bright was good with technology so if he could charge the phone without blowing it up then that was one more tool at his disposal. Not to mention that he had a couple movies and some more music downloaded onto it that he was sure the girls would be interested in. There was also a game or two and pictures on there.
