“Um, it’s nice to meet you. My name is Chuck. This is Tess, Torj, and Kyt.” He replied, gesturing at the others after his brain got over the huge surprise. “Oh, yet another otherworlder? No, a shape shifter. I see. It is indeed a pleasure to meet you all. My true name is unpronounceable but I was called Bright when I first arrived on this planet.” Bright replied, bowing slightly.
“Why were you sealed in this room? It looks like these ruins have been abandoned for centuries.” Chuck asked. “When I arrived I was treated as a sentient golem and not an otherworlder. I am something of a scientist so enjoyed learning about this world but I was told it went against their gods for a sentient golem to exist. It was quite troublesome and when they couldn’t find a way to kill me, they sealed me here and I went into hibernation.” Bright explained. Chuck was surprised that the citizens would be so zealous but hopefully times had changed.
“It is rare to see one of your kind. I had never managed to meet one before my hibernation.” Bright said, bowing again to Tess who hid behind Chuck. ”In any case I will give you these books as thanks for unsealing me. This was used as a storehouse before I arrived and they were left behind. I have already committed them to memory. Let me pack them for you and we can return to the surface.” Bright said, pointing a tentacle at the books.
Suddenly the magic devices sprouted legs and started pouring out of the boxes. They came together and started forming into a shape. It was all kind of creepy and gave Chuck the chills. He could feel Tess holding onto him tighter. When they were done, a four legged creature appeared that was about half the size of Bright. It had no head and there were two tentacles sticking out of it along with a tail. “Don’t be afraid. I made them out of the resources found in this world and can control them. They have come in handy on more than one occasion.” Bright explained.

The creature grasped two of the now empty boxes with its tentacles and started packing them with books. When the books were all packed, it placed the boxes on its back. Chuck was glad they wouldn’t need to carry the books back to the surface themselves. It seemed the miniature devices acted like drones that could combine together into different combinations. It was very fascinating. They followed Bright and the drone creature out warily. He didn’t seem to be hostile but Chuck wasn’t taking any chances and made sure Tess was safely behind him.
They reached the camp and introduced Bright to Raz and Maz who were glad they came back safely but growled at the newcomer. It seemed they didn’t like him but Bright didn’t seem to mind. Bright walked outside and looked around at the ruins. “It has been a long time.” He muttered to himself. The drone creature sat down next to him. “We will be heading back to my pickup and then to Axtol, which is the nearest city if you want to come along.” Chuck said, walking up to Bright.
”Yes, I think I will come with you for now. There is much left to learn. I will also help haul your supplies.” Bright said, directing the drone creature to grasp the insect material sled with its tail. “Great, we’ll start heading home then.” Chuck replied. They packed up the camp and Torj and Kyt led them back towards the pickup. It was an uneventful trip back with no monster attacks. He didn’t know if they were just lucky or if it was because Bright was with them. Chuck also didn’t know what would happen when they got back to Axtol and the guards saw Bright. Torj and Kyt seemed indifferent but Raz and Maz didn’t like him. He just hoped everything worked out.
