Chuck thought he might be questioned on his surname since they didn’t seem to have one but the next question from Captain Nass was “What are you - from what race do you belong?” Which threw Chuck for a loop, he should have expected it from what he saw in the city but hearing it out loud was another matter. “Me, I’m a human - from the human race.” Chuck replied nervously. Nass looked quizzically at Nox who shook his head, so Chuck elaborated. “If there are elves here then I guess we are like them but without the pointed ears.” Chuck said pointing to his ears. Nass narrowed his eyes, tapping his claws on the table impatiently as Nox shrugged his shoulders. “I’ve never heard of humans or elves. Where did you come from and what business do you have in Axtol?” Nass said crossing his arms. For some reason Chuck was sure if there were goblins there must be elves, so hearing otherwise made him crestfallen. No cute cat girls and now no elf beauties or human princesses it would seem. What kind of crappy world did he get dropped into.
After lamenting his luck, Chuck paused to decide if he should tell them the truth or if they would even believe him if he did. He sighed and went on to explain how he was from another world, how he got transported to this world somehow, and how he had followed the dirt track to the city. Captain Nass listened quietly until he mentioned the dirt track. “An otherworlder huh, that would explain a few things but you were lucky if you came from the dark road unscathed. It runs along the Howling Woods and it is said if you enter too deeply you will never be seen again. Monsters are known to leave the forest and prowl the road, but I suppose someone as small and frail looking as yourself wouldn’t be much of a meal.” Nass said with an evil grin. Chuck knew he was being made fun of but couldn’t dispute the facts.
“So what will you do now otherworlder? Nox here would love to look over your items from another world I’m sure and may give you some coin for them. We do have guards patrolling the city but someone as unique as yourself will stand out and will surely be kidnapped or killed if you aren’t careful. Also, it would seem you won’t be able to talk with anyone without that artifact which is the property of the alchemy guild. If you can’t protect yourself, you could try becoming a patron of governor Feli. With your unique status it may be possible. The governor rules this territory and lives in Axtol.” Nass said as he leaned back in his chair. “You will also need to find a way to make money, we don’t abide freeloaders. Do you have any skills?” Nass continued.

“I worked on the family farm but was just a student, still going to school. I can hunt, trap, and catch fish though. Maybe I can be an adventurer. Is there an adventurers guild?” Chuck asked starting to get excited. “I’m not sure what an adventurer is but there are farms on the plains north of the city. You could try your hand at hunting in the forest but I wouldn’t recommend it.” Nass replied eyeing his small stature. “I see.” Chuck said dejectedly. Chuck was silent for a minute. “Is there any way to buy this artifact or one like it?” he asked hopefully, changing the subject. “That is the only translation artifact in Axtol and they are very expensive. However, it is rarely used and if you become a patron of the governor, the guild master may make a deal with you.” Nox said stepping forward. “On the other hand, if you become a member of the guild then it is possible the guild may loan it to you.” Nox continued. “In any case, why don’t you stay at the alchemy guild for now since you can show them your items and you currently have no money for an inn. They can also help you get in touch with the governor, although I will also be writing a report so you may get a summons regardless. I suggest you keep your hood up and head down.” Nass said sweeping Chuck’s belongings back into his bag and handing it over. “I will talk to the guild master but we have empty rooms for apprentices so it shouldn’t be a problem.” Nox said gesturing for Chuck to follow him. “Good luck otherworlder, I have a feeling you are going to need it.” Captain Nass said giving Chuck another evil looking smile.
