76 - Report

Chuck was fairly certain the king already knew what he was going to report since the alchemy guilds could communicate with each other. He still had to go through the motions however. Maybe he would get another reward, not that he did it for a reward. Chuck wouldn’t turn one down however.

Chuck didn’t bother to go to the inn that was storing their possessions to get his dress clothes. He wanted to get done with the meeting as soon as possible. Raz and Maz were probably getting worried that they weren’t back yet. The delivery quest they had to do wasn’t part of the original plan.

They arrived at the castle and were ushered before the king. This time both the queen and first princess were present as well. Chuck and Tess knelt before the king as usual. Chuck relayed what he and Tess had seen and that the crates of supplies had been delivered successfully.

“Otherworlder, once again you have helped the kingdom tremendously. For your efforts, you will be given a monetary reward.” The king motioned and an official handed him and Tess each a small bag of gold coins.

“Your fame has spread throughout the kingdom. Unfortunately, it has also spread to other kingdoms. There is a chance they will try and capture you to bring you back to their kingdom. Otherworlders are rare and many kingdoms would go to great lengths to obtain one. We have kept the news of the otherworlder you rescued under wraps so the other kingdoms shouldn’t be aware of Bright yet.”

Chuck was taken aback. He had not considered the fact that other countries would try and kidnap him. He wondered if they would go even farther and try and kill him to keep him from helping the country he was in. There was also the possibility that they would target Tess or the bear siblings to get him to do what they wanted.

“I have notified the governor of Axtol who will increase security. If you see anyone suspicious, notify the guards immediately. With your strength and your golem I have no doubt you can take care of yourself but please be careful.” The queen and princess looked as worried as Chuck felt from the king’s words.

“I appreciate the warning. We will be careful and plan to head back to Axtol as soon as possible.” Chuck replied, bowing his head. Tess looked worried as well. He would have to reassure her later. He would also need to learn more about the other kingdoms that might be targeting him. Chuck still wasn’t too familiar with the geography and countries of the new world he had found himself in.

Chuck felt he had been lucky to be in the current kingdom where they let him do what he wanted for the most part. He could envision other kingdoms locking him up while they forced him to divulge all the information he had from his original world. After the audience, they headed to the inn. Chuck felt paranoid now and kept looking around to see if they were being followed.

R2 and their possessions were right were they left them so they packed up the pickup to head home. He would feel better once they got back to Axtol. As they exited the city, it didn’t look like they had any followers. Chuck half expected another ambush like what happened after the auction but the road was clear.

The trip back to Axtol was uneventful but he noticed a few more squeaks to the pickup than usual and the engine was starting to run a little rough. He had been running it hard lately. Chuck decided that once they got back, servicing the pickup was going to be a priority. He was sure the alchemy guild members would love to watch him work on it as well.
