Chuck explained the concept of Molotov cocktails to everyone. He had his magic gas can and he knew Alz had made the guild a smaller one for experimentation, so they should have no problem with supplying gasoline. They only had half a day at most before the monsters arrived according to the survivors estimates. That would be plenty of time to make some and get them to the wall. All you had to do was light and throw them, so the guards should be able to handle it. Alz would get the merchant guild to gather the right size jugs and some cloth strips to use as fuses. The head of the merchant guild had already fled evidently, but there were still some members around. Glass bottles were expensive and there weren’t that many of them, so pottery would have to do.
Chuck’s group headed to the alchemy guild to get to work. Alz had all the guild members helping out and had even put a call out for anyone that was still around to help make the fire bombs. The Molotov cocktails were put in wooden crates and then loaded onto wagons. As soon as a wagon was full, it would be driven to the south wall. They spaced fire pots along the top of the wall to use to light the bombs. He figured they wanted to conserve their magic for fighting. He suggested they get a couple water mages for the top of the wall. There were sure to be a few accidents. Chuck took a few loads of fire bombs to the wall using his pickup to speed up the process. He made Raz and Maz stay and help at the guild but Tess refused to leave his side. He met Torj and Kyt at the wall during his last load.
They were surprised to see Tess so Chuck had to do more introductions. They helped Chuck and Tess unload the pickup and haul the boxes to the top of the wall. Chuck was going to leave throwing Molotovs to the guards. He didn’t think he could throw them very far anyway. He planned on transporting more supplies and chasing down any strays that got over the wall. His pickup was the fastest vehicle in the city so he had reluctantly agreed to the task. Since he had run into Torj and Kyt, he asked them to help him out. He could always use more combat ability and he had already seen what they could do. They agreed and would be riding in the back while Tess rode in the front.
Stolen story; please report.
While they were on the wall, Kyt caught a glimpse of movement on the road. Chuck quickly grabbed his binoculars to take a look. He swore and almost dropped them. It was as he feared, giant spiders. It would have to be spiders, he thought to himself, slumping down. From the survivors descriptions, he had guessed that’s what it was but some part of him had held out hope that he was wrong. Kyt took the binoculars to have a look. She called them Deathstriders, which Chuck had to admit fit them well. She also pointed out something called a Scytheclaw, which when she handed the binoculars back turned out to be a giant preying mantis looking creature. The spiders seemed to avoid the mantis and it attacked and devoured any that got too close. From what he could tell, most of the spiders were about the size of horses while the mantis and some tarantula looking ones were the size of his pickup. There were a lot of them. He felt weak in the knees just looking at them so he didn’t know how he was supposed to fight. He crossed his fingers and toes that none of them would make it over the wall.
