Chapter 30 - Scene 4 - An Oath to the heavens

Scene 4 - An Oath to the heavens

Despite disappearing from their throne the brothers were still watching on poking jokes at the contestants. The younger pointed and laughed at how stupid they were acting, “These fools fighting amongst themselves why are they not killing each other big bro Zom?”

With his hand rested against his head Zom smiled, “Your thoughts are as good as mine little Bie, it would be better to kill each other before the time limit. If the waves are introduced then the challenge becomes much more difficult to stay alive.”

“Oh! It seems that girl with blue hair is going to start killing! Even from here I can feel her killing intent!”

The contestants below we're still arguing about who’d be lead commanding all of them to the point that the Luna was debating to start killing the contestants around her. While Sol felt lost on what to do to salvage the current situation but wasn’t able to come up with anything.

Time ticking down Luna stepped forward flowing with bloodlust to the person next to her, It was at this moment that Gorac stood up from his sitting position and yelled grabbing everyone's attention.

The three experts turn their heads in his direction full of ill intent but soon became pale as the aura of an 8th Stage HBR expert aura spread across the platform. Getting their attention Gorac smiled a toothy orf grin clasping his hands, “Come now fellow Cultivators let us work together and not fight. How about we do this. You three will each lead a group of twenty contestants and take a rotation in fighting the waves so we will be able to rest every five waves.”

A frown appeared on a girl with a large fan, “That's fine and all but what do we do at wave 90? at that point with only two rotations left one group won’t have to fight and will have an advantage when we leave with energy reserves?”

At this point, the brown-haired man came in and suggested, “At that time we can all just fight together for the last wave?”

Finally, the snort gray-haired man spoke up, “And what stops people from stabbing each other in the back? This plan is foolish in the regards that we have no trust!”

Gorac, “Simple each if us will swear an oath to the heavens not to attack each other unless less than twenty are alive here. Then the remaining can kill each other with it comes to that point, those that don't follow this rule will be stuck with heavenly lightning does that sound fair?”

Most of the contestants grew wide-eyed over Gorac’s suggestion to swear an oath to the heavens. It was a strange energy that allowed cultivators to be bound by laws so that some form of trust could be gained in such a brutal world.

Working over his words the three’s eyes shook, but quickly repressed showing such an emotion inwardly the fan maiden chuckled, ‘Heh. What a schemer so that’s his plan! Despite being an orc he’s very vile underneath that innocent expression.’

The author's tale has been misappropriated; report any instances of this story on Amazon.

Even the other two 7th realm experts agreed in the back of their minds that this Orc was truly a piece of art but they decided they would go with his plan! Stepping forward the brown-haired wore a playful expression, “That sounds good enough to me I’ll go first! I swear to the heavens that I won’t attack another person here unless they don’t swear to the heavens to not attack a person. Only when less than twenty remain here will I start attacking other contestants! If I go back on my word may heavenly lightning strike me down!”

Seeing that the brown-haired youth go forth and say his oath to the heavens the other two 7th experts chuckled inwardly and recited the same oath. Seeing that the heavy hitters will willing to come to an understanding one by one the rest of the contestants recited the law until got to the twins which Sol said the oath but Luna remained silent.

Noticing that the last person needed to say the oath was silent the fan maiden said in a charming voice, “Come on little girl say the oath so we can start grouping up afterall we don’t have much time to mess around.”

Tilting her head Luna looked at her strange, “Why don’t I just kill you all? How dare you call me a little girl you piece of shit, I should pull your tongue out and feed it to pigs bitch!”

The cultivators looked at this little girl with such a vicious tongue with shock, even the fan maiden seemed stunned that 4th HBR expert would have that gall to talk to her in such impolite manner that she wanted to treat this little girl a lesson!

“Sister don’t cause trouble!”

Clicking her tongue Luna turned her head away, “Fine brother, I swear an oath to the heavens…”

When she finished her oath to the heavens the air in the room full of tension seemed to have cooled down around them with only a few minutes left the group didn’t have much time to organize the group before the waves started to the three experts raised their voice to move the process along.

“I want nineteen people over here standing in attention!”

“As do I!”

“I want nineteen as well but not that one!”

By the time that the groups finished gathering only a minute remained for them to get into formation. By the end of the matter, Luna and Sol were in the second group, while Gorac had gone to the third for the reason of wave 90 since he was the strongest.

Having everything in place group one spread out in a circle and waited with their weapons out ready to do battle. The air started to grow heavy for the contestants as sweat poured down their face as a timer appeared at the thirty-second mark with the number 1 above it.

10, 9, 8… 3… 2… 1… 0.

The clock struck 0 making the contestants tense up but for a bit nothing happened, no monsters came out. No one dares look away despite seeing nothing in front of them until a crack appeared off in the distance, then another.

More cracking sounds surrounded the contestants making them confused where the sounds were coming from until a bone hand shot straight out of the ground! Digging itself out of the ground other hands followed dragging their dead bodies from the grave they wore shabby armor that hung loosely on their bodies.

If one looked closely they would notice that the sword and shields were in fount of every skeleton who then took their armaments with the rattling of bones. As their hands made contact with their swords and shields their hollow eye sockets lit up a dull blue haze.

They stood motionlessly for a few moments before rattling their bones an inhuman scream came from them as they opened their jaw. The army of about two hundred skeletons walked forward at once towards the cultivators wishing for blood they had long since lost.

The battle had begun.
