Chapter 22 - Scene 3 - Trance

Scene 3 - Trance

*Inhale*

Ren’s poise came into motion; the blade lifted up in a very relaxed manner, as he waited for his moment to do his all-out attack!

40 meters away…

Closing his eyes, his hearing was heightened, as the air around him changed in a subtle way, becoming denser.

25 meters...

The air around Ren formed two currents of flowing air; one hot, one cold. They entered and exited Othin in a rhythmic manner, making various shapes around him.

15 meters…

Ren could feel the heat of the giant flame Leviathan bearing upon him when he was in a trance, becoming one with the two streams of air. These two forces combined together at the tip of his blade and ran down its edge with one side cold, and the other hot.

7 meters...

The heat was now becoming unbearable for Ren, as the Leviathan was now in front of him, but facing death didn’t seem to change his demeanor. He felt light, with eyes shining, understanding, breaking into the 3rd stage of the Heavenly body refinement!

Exhale.

Still, in a trance, Ren spoke words that were not his own, “Sword art of the fairy king 1st stance >>Othin’s eye<<”

Ren’s blade moved at a blinding speed, making a full moon motion, a square inside and then finally a slit down the middle.

When the eye was completed, Ren’s cultivation base of power was 80% used up! His face paled from the sudden amount of power spent while gritting his teeth as he motioned the ability to move forward, intending to face the Leviathan!

A shocking explosion between the two abilities rocked the hallway, as the forces of wind and fire fought against each other for supremacy. The two magics tore into each other like lions over the body of a silver deer.

Ren didn’t wait around to see the outcome and started to run full tilt down the hallway as the two attacks clashed. The two attacks held each other at bay for ten breaths of time before the Othin’s eye was pushed back ever so slightly.

Until finally about thirty breaths time later Ren’s attack was fully broken down by the Leviathan that seemed considerably weaker and had lost half of its mass. Ren didn’t see this though, for he was scared shitless to even turn back! With having bought himself forty breaths of time, he ran full tilt!

Twisting and turning left and right, Ren made his way forward. He kept up a good pace and had increased the distance by 350 odd meters. As the Leviathan made its way ever closer towards Ren’s direction, fully intent on consuming him no matter how many twists and turns he took, the beast never lost his trail!

.The gap, which he thought was good enough, was slowly closing between the two, for ten agonizing minutes as Ren ran away. The gap was now a mere 40 meters; He glanced back every so often to see that the Leviathan now grew weaker and weaker. Sweat poured down his body as he ran with everything he had. His breathing was ragged and his vision was getting unfocused since he had never run this fast before in his life.

The only thought on his mind was, “Faster... I need to move faster!”

His cultivation base had climbed back to about half full and he focused all his energy on strengthening his legs. He didn’t want to die in such a pitiful way! He didn’t want to escape from the test, he would rather die! This was his pride and he would be damned to run away!

Even with the added boost to his legs and the fact that the Leviathan was now ¼ its original size, it was still approaching ever closer towards him. His death was all but nigh in the eyes of fate!

Then, it happened.

The labyrinth started to creak, groan and then move around him! As the wide-open pathway lay out before him, starting to close right in front of him, a hint of insanity crossed his mind; gritting his teeth he ran forward towards life!

He madly charged forward, even breaking his fastest speed yet, he roared, speaking his most inner desire, “I SHALL LIVE, I HAVE TO DRINK MORE FINE WINE!”

The stone wall was closing in on both sides and at his speed, he was going to make the gap before it closed in front of him within 15 meters! Yet, how could this fire Leviathan let Ren have his way? Opening its fiery mouth, all of its dagger teeth shot out at Ren!

Ren had made it to the 2-meter mark when the daggers came, some slashed on his arms and legs while others passed by, harmlessly, in the air. One fatally struck his left butt cheek with a searing pain of heat, making him scream out in pain as he pulled it out.

Narrowly, Ren made it to another side by the skin of his teeth, with just mere inches of free space. He turned around in time to see the stone wall shut right in front of the Leviathan, roaring madly as it crashed into the wall.

Finally, Ren felt that the looming hand of death was finally off his neck; checking his surroundings first to make sure it’s safe, as luck would have it, there was no one around him. With a breath of relief, he leaned on the wall and tried to sit down, only to be bitterly reminded of the fact that he had just recently taken a knife to the ass cheek.
