Chapter 17 - Scene 2 -Makuo District

Scene 2 - Makuo District

On the fifth day in town Xue, Vince and Ren walked the town together exploring the sights. While the three girls Len, Rune, and Nena visited the marketplace to buy some cute clothes for themselves. The first group wandered around over various shops eating anything they saw along the way that interested them. Afterall cultivating made one hungry.

Ren was leading them forward to a place that smelled faintly of iron and with each step, the smell grew stronger until they reached a certain gate that read “Makuo district”.

Rens’ eyes shined with anticipation, “Hey I heard up here is the Makuo District which is five km wide and is full of Smiths! Wanna check it out, guys?”

Vince and Xue nodded in response and so the three walked down the street towards Makuo. It wasn’t that far of a walk to get to so it wouldn’t be trouble to spend some time here. Diving into the district they crossed into the place where the cities smiths gathered to hone their skills and compete against one another with blood and iron.

As they passed through they saw seven figures dress in red pass them by with arrogant and aloof expressions. It was the same look that the nobles had given them in the old kingdom; the one that stepped over commoners body and soul.

Whoever was on the path quickly got out of the way for fear of offending these seven. Naturally, the three siblings got out of the way to avoid trouble brewing going it a stall on the side and grabbed some food waiting for seven red robed people to leave their sight before continuing.

Despite the itch to pick a fight with that one swordsman in the group, Ren resisted the urge to fight, after all, there wasn’t a point to fight when their goal today was to sightsee the city not to fight seven arrogant nobles.

Heading deeper into the Makuo District, the various smells of metal, coal, and smoke that filled the air thicker then the clouds and blacker than the night streamed from hanging pipes on the buildings heading towards the sky. The siblings could almost taste the metal it in the air as the heat began to pick up in the area making them sweat a little.

The banging of hammers on metal rang forming the sounds of thunder crashing upon the earth, taking a look around Ren’s notice he could see the sound being amplified by the walls, and most of the time there wasn’t any rhythm just the striking of chaotic metal that was grinding and mashing against each other.

Yet every once in awhile the beat of iron fell into a strange sort of song. At times the clinks made your blood boil as if one-hundred thousand foot soldiers were marching in unison. At others, it felt like a melody full of vulgar. The banging seemed to move Xue’s heart it’s terrifying and exciting sound, played in a manner that played with her heartstrings. The fragmented memories inside her head seemed to smile longingly her eyes grew distant almost falling into a trance as if fate played a prank on the ears and for a few moments... It moved various emotions within as the chaotic song played with passion.

Suddenly remembering a certain fact Ren turned to his brother and dazed sister, “Hey Big brother, Little Sis I just remembered I heard a rumor wanna hear about it?”

Vince asked tilting his head, “Oh? What is it?”

With a sparkle in his eye, Ren continued, “I heard the people who actually that enter the heart of the smithing district say they could even feel their bodies being tempered by the residue strikes from smiths hammering away! Do you think it’s true Big brother?”

Putting a hand on his chin Vince thought about it, “It might be some sort of natural formation if that’s the case with many people gather with one mind in soul on something it has been recorded of such phenomenon. We should check it out another time though before we reach the center it’ll be late afternoon.”

Feeling downcast Ren nodded his head, “Right we wouldn’t want our siblings to worry about where we’ve gone. So let’s visit it sometime later together!”

Xue had already awoken from her stupor and gave a sight smile of approval, “Lets.”

Walking even deeper the temperature rose to the point that the siblings started to circulate qi though their bodies to cool themselves. New pipes could be seen releasing steam in an attempt to cool down the heating by a few degrees too cool metal and houses alike.

The clanking of gears could now be heard all over around the colorful shops and buildings. Different races that siblings have never seen before walked in and out of shops along the wide street. Dressed in a variety of colors the three stood with eyes wide taking in the atmosphere.

This was the charm of the Makuo District, where races all over the realm gathered to mingle and trade metal works. Leading the way Ren stopped along the stores starting at the large assortment of swords with a bright expression plastered across his face. While Xue and Vince took a fancy towards the strange mechanisms resembling animals; puzzle boxes, weapons, and other objects that moved by gears littering the stalls.

At this point, three siblings had traveled far into the district and it seemed the father into the district be even more lively than the entrance.

Then it happened.
