Revelation 2.20 - That time I was reincarnated in another world and became a [Legendary Hero]
"Huh?" I said again, as an uproar went through the crowd.
"The [Legendary Hero]!" one of the Paladins shouted.
"Praise Kamiko!" another bellowed. I rubbed the back of my neck, suddenly aware of the crowd of girls staring at me. I looked to Bonbon for reassurance, but she was just staring at me like a deer in headlights, shaking her head and muttering slightly.
I turned to Ciel, but she was just staring at me in complete awe, her mouth agape, and her Kamiko 4D-Crown-Headband askew on the top of her head. In desperation, I turned to Wanda, but she was still several rooms and floors away, and couldn't see me at all, nor was she aware of what had just happened. I turned off [Clairvoyance] and sheepishly laughed.
"Heh... I..." I looked around at the expectant faces of the hot anime babes surrounding me, feeling my central nervous system start to lock down.
Skill Obtained: [Stress Resistance - Lvl 1]
The Stress relieved itself by 5%. Thank goodness. Now I could think completely clearly and with perfect logic. Now that I thought about it, it was pretty illogical for me to be scared of girls paying attention to me, right? I loved hot anime babes, so why should I be nervous with 50-150 of them staring at me?
I nodded internally, deciding to stop being afraid. Instantly, the fear passed. Still... that didn't solve my bigger issue.
"N-no way, there's gotta be some kind of misunderstanding," I muttered to myself, probably too quiet to hear. It was one thing if I would get the [Legendary Hero] title no-strings-attached, but it seemed like there were not no, but several strings attached to this one! And I didn't even have the title yet! There's NO WAY I was actually the [Legendary Hero]!

"Yes," I declared. "It is I. The [Legendary Hero]!"
I struck a pose as hard as I could, activating [Ultra Fabio] and causing several of the weaker-constitutioned Paladins to faint on the spot. I grinned a smile, light glinting off my perfect pearly-white teeth. I stared at the awed and bewildered looks on the faces of the hot babes surrounding me. If this was the kind of reception a hero would get, then maybe I'd actually take this whole thing a little more seriously!
[Candidate System Message]
Criterion Met (MM.C2A.01): MM Awarded
MM Advanced by 1 point!
Huh? I was still getting benefits from my new title? It was more of that weird message stuff. What was MM, anyways? If only I had some kind of skill that I could use to instantly learn encyclopedic knowledge about anything! Wait a minute! Of course! I started to activate [Detective Basics] when I heard Kamiko talking again.
"Okay, everybody! Big round of applause for the [Legendary Hero]! I know this is exciting news, so we'll be having a big Hero Party next week to celebrate! We may even be able to get an interview with the Hero himself! But this next part is IMPORTANT!"
I hesitated. She had something even more important to say than me being the [Legendary Hero]? And wait, what was that about an interview? Didn't that mean... public speaking? I turned my full attention back to the broadcast, a cold wariness tapdancing in the back of my head.
"To all of my Nuns, Lady Paladins, and other assorted clergywomen: Hiro ♥ Protagonist is OFF-LIMITS!"
She raised both of her arms, making an 'X' with her forearms. A graphic appeared on screen, with the astronomical sign for Mars intertwined with the astronomical sign for Venus, the arrow penetrating the open hole of the Venus symbol. I recognized both symbols from my Chuuni phase back in middle school, but didn't really get what their significance was here.
A giant red X appeared over the conjoined symbols, making me even more confused. Whatever that meant, I guess Kamiko wanted ten of it? I scratched my cheek in confusion.

Kamiko continued holding her arms up in an X, but tilted her head as a Super Tithe caught her attention. "Hm? 'What about the priests or male paladins?'"
Kamiko blinked rapidly, her face growing red all of the sudden. She dropped her arms, immediately twiddling her fingers on the hem of her dress. "U-um, well, t-that's, I mean. If, um..."
She chuckled nervously, then continued to chuckle in a way that reminded me less of a nervous schoolgirl and more of a creepy old man.
"I.. I mean, something like that would, ehehehe... N-no! Bad Kamiko!" She shook her head, slapping her cheeks with the palm of her hands in a cute expression that sent shockwaves blasting through the multipurpose room, bowling over a few of the closest [Paladins].
"N-no, Hiro-kun is OFF-LIMITS to everybody! Okay?!"
I wasn't sure what 'off-limits' meant in this context, but I felt like I'd somehow dodged a bullet. Still! Her blushing did remind me, that people also blush when they are totally into me! And that reminded me that I still had to figure out which of her [Paladins] I wanted to join my harem!
That Mama Maggy or whoever seemed pretty nice. However, she definitely seemed like she was at least 26, and I wasn't into old ladies! That [Lawyer]? Nah, she arrested Wanda. I couldn't forgive her for that. Who... wait a second.
I hesitated, pausing as I casually walked past the throngs of church members trying to ask me questions or get my attention. If people blush when they were totally into me... and Kamiko was blushing now?
I glanced at the screen, where Kamiko had one of those wooden pointers you use on old time chalkboards, and was pointing at a crude MS paint drawing of me. She tapped the pointer on a crude, hand-written text that said "Charm Point" and had an arrow heading to my bangs, which always covered my eyes unless it was dramatic or useful for the plot. She was still blushing.
Does Kamiko is totally into me? I shook my head. N-no way. We only went to school together for multiple of our formative years, then left and had a fateful reunion years later. I was reading too much into it. I chuckled at my own arrogance and headed back towards the direction I thought the cafeteria probably was.
All this drama had made me hungry!
----------------------------------------
"So you gotta make sure to help him, okay?" Kamiko urged her followers. "It's super important! The fate of the world is at stake! Okay?"
Ciel nodded emphatically, her mind buzzing. This... that Hiro guy... he was the [Legendary Hero]?! Which, didn't that mean, that he, that Kamiko?
She could hardly contain herself.
"Here's the First Divine Quest for the [Legendary Hero]! One of the [Demon Lord]'s [Elite Four] has recently taken over a [Valley Elf] village! I know you ladies at the All-Female Paladin Order know who I mean!"
A chorus of boos and jeers erupted from several of the other members of the order, but Ciel was too hyped up to pay attention. Ever since she was little, Kamiko had been there for her. She'd had... kind of a rough childhood, so it was no exaggeration to say that Kamiko had more or less saved her life. The church in her hometown hosted its Visitations in the courtyard outside, so she could always watch from a neighboring roof.
When she was hungry, Kamiko had been there with a cooking Visitation, to nourish her soul. When she'd been tired, Kamiko had been there with an ASMR Visitation, to ease her to sleep. When she was bruised and battered from a fight, Kamiko had been there for her, with a song to brighten her heart and give her the strength to survive. Kamiko had always been there for her. And she'd made sure that she was always there for Kamiko! She'd never missed a single Visitation, ever. Even after formally joining the Church, she still made time to see every show. Even when she'd become the youngest [Paladin] in her Order, she'd found ways to squeeze it into her tight training regimen.
Even that time she'd gotten sick, she'd just do enough push-ups and squats until she'd sweat the sickness out! Sure, she'd collapsed for almost a week after that, but that was fine, because she was better in time for Kamiko's next Visitation. Transferring to the All-Female Paladin's Order had been tough. She'd had to carefully plot her course to make sure she'd be near a church or a temple every week by clockwork. She'd managed, though! She may have been the youngest [Paladin] to join her original order, but she'd worked tirelessly, training early in the morning, straight through until the depths of the night. To be strong. To not shame Kamiko.
She was always the fastest at completing Duty, enough so that all of her Sisters had been proud, telling her that she was making everybody else look bad, and joking with her, telling her to knock it off and stop working so hard. She shook her head at the memories. Nobody else took this as seriously as she did. They were always wasting their time playing practical jokes on her. Like throwing her clothes into the bath, or drawing silly pictures on her desk, or pushing her tent off a cliff while she was sleeping, or putting spicy or gross stuff in her food. They weren't even good pranks! She'd eaten way worse stuff when she was younger. Happily, even!
She chuckled to herself. They were acting like this was all a big game! Nobody cared about Kamiko as much as she did, and she had the proof to back it up! She was the highest-level [Paladin] in this order, not counting the higher-ranking ones who ran the temple, or the traveling warriors who occasionally passed through. She wore her devotion like a badge of pride, regardless of what the other [Posers] thought. So, to have been here. To have been present when Kamiko's biggest moment arrived?
It was the greatest honor of her life.
She sobbed, wiping at her nose with the back of her hand. A handkerchief appeared in her vision, and she looked over at Bonbon, who was really pale, and sweating for some reason. The elf chef was holding out a salmon-colored handkerchief.
"T-thanks," Ciel muttered, taking it and blowing her nose. Bonbon grimaced, but offered a weak smile as Ciel turned back to her. "I bet you're proud, huh? Of Hiro-kun, I mean. It's gotta be a shock, huh?"
"Um..." Bonbon began, diplomatically. "It's certainly, hm... unexpected."
Ciel nodded emphatically. "I'm... *snf* I'm so happy. I could just cry..."
Bonbon gave a rigid smile and nodded, wanting to point out that Ciel already was crying, but holding her tongue to preserve... whatever mood this was.
"S-still. It was totally surprising," Ciel said, wiping away her tears with a clean corner of the handkerchief. I hadn't expected Hiro-kun to actually be a big shot like that. Heh... I wonder if he really was, uh..."
Ciel froze. She realized she hadn't been listening intently to the Visitation. This was, y'know... only one of the little sins. Sometimes it was good to just zone out and listen to recordings of Kamiko's old Visitations while she worked out, but... She turned her attention to it fully, now.
"--And he'll subjugate the rest of the [Valley Elfs]! And bring back that [Elite Four]'s head on a spike!" Kamiko shouted, getting all fired up and ahead of herself as always. Ciel gave a heartfelt sigh, closing her eyes and activating her [Superfan] skill to send another 100 Gold Tithe directly to Kamiko.
"So he'll need a volunteer to show him the way!" Kamiko concluded. "I'll leave it up to the heads of the All-Female Paladin Order, okay? If you want to volunteer, go ask them!"
Volunteer to join him? Ciel thought about it. It'd be a pretty big mission, that's for sure. The [Valley Elves] had been eluding them for years, hiding somewhere in the Hidden Valley, which the order still hadn't been able to locate, even after months of searching. Traveling with the [Legendary Hero] would be an honor, but... she might miss out on the next Visitation!
Ciel debated herself in her head. Would it be worth it? She'd be helping Kamiko, but... she might miss a Visitation for the first time in her life! Decisions, decisions...
"Oh, uh, that's right!" Kamiko said, snapping her fingers. "Um, I heard that his, uh... h-his [Slave] Wanda-san has been arrested! I hereby decree, um... that she's sentenced to pay back money for everything she stole, and has to show repentance with... community service! She'll have to help him go subjugate the [Elite Four]!"
Some of the [Paladins], mostly those who had been affected by the doggirl's shenanigans (or who knew somebody who had) murmured in irritation, but Ciel only froze.
Kamiko-chama... knew about Wanda? Which... wait, which meant that... Hiro-kun... no, Hiro-sama actually had been talking to her? Which... which meant that...
Hiro-kun ACTUALLY KNEW Kamiko?
"Um, Pareiso-san?" Bonbon asked politely. "A-are you okay? Y-you're kind of um, drooling a bit." The elf tapped the side of her mouth as if to indicate where the drool was, but Ciel paid her no attention. Kamiko.... Kamiko.... Hiro-kun knew Kamiko! He could... he could...
Ciel had to go! She had to be the one. She knew it in her heart. She'd march right up to the leaders and demand to be the one to go with him. She nodded to herself and stood, giving one last glance at the stage. She'd go...
...right after the Visitation ended.
