Chapter 82 - A small look at the our forces.

“How is training going, Sir Kazik?” The King of Azuria asked one of his knights as he watched half of the Royal Knights train in the courtyard of the castle.

“Half the troops already have plans in place to get revenge on me. The other half already tried something.” The Knight cheerfully said to the king.

“I guess that is a good thing. Make sure they get stronger in any way possible. Also, is that your son?” The king asked as he pointed to a group of clearly younger people training.

“Yes. My boy Mathias and his friends are being punished so if they start to bleed please just ignore them.”

“Why?” The king asked, clearly confused.

“They are not guards so I don’t have to be lenient with them.”

The king takes a moment to really focus on the boys. Unlike the rest of the guards that are training with just a lot of weights strapped to them, they are actively being damaged by various spells when they stop running or run poorly.

“Should you really be making them experience all that?”

“Yes. They think they deserve it and us as their parents also think they deserve it.”

“May I ask why?”

“The girl finally went home yesterday and they confessed to us three exactly what happened. It took a lot of restraint to not beat them up.”

“They didn’t break any rules.” The king added.

“Yes. But that doesn’t mean they didn’t do anything wrong. For a common soldier it’s ok to fall on the rules when you are in a stressful situation. They don’t want to be normal soldiers, they weren’t trained for that.”

“Not all fault lies with them as I see.”

“No, but most of it does.” Sir Kazik says as he points to his wrist where the same bracelet that increases the gravity for a person that everyone uses to train is equipped with.

“So, until when this will continue and what else are they doing? They are the future of the royal guards so I have some personal stakes on their well being.”

“Until they can beat us, then they can punish themselves on their time. Also, if you think what I am doing is hard, you will have to see what Sharp and Karoz have planned.”

“...Those are the fathers of the other two, right? Karoz is part of the cavalry and sharp of our psychic unit, right?” The king asked after thinking for a moment.

“Yes. Pretty sure they will love being live targets for the psychics and work like horses.” Sir Kazik said very sarcastically.

They stayed in silence for a few minutes as they watched everyone training run around. The boys had a very determined look on them.

“How long until they are stronger than you?” The king asked.

“If they can maintain this rhythm and determination, probably not more than a year.”

“Will it be enough?”

“For the Kingdom? Absolutely. For what they want? Not by a long shot.”

“And what would that be?”

“They want to be strong enough to deal with someone on a similar level to the one that died to the girl.”

“They are going to need more than weight training for that. I can say with certainty that even I would have some difficulties against the man she fought.”

“That’s why what they do is only our problem until we are beaten. I know how to train an army but I have no idea on how to train someone so they are as strong as an immortal. I can’t even win an arm wrestling competition against your daughter’s maid. That type of training is way above my head.”

“If you so wish I have people more than willing to train someone.”

“...As a father I would love nothing more than my child getting every good opportunity he can but as a member of the Royal Guard I have to say that it is a bad idea to get someone so green to be trained by the same people that pump out your personal guards and servants, your majesty.”

“We have to shake things a little. We were beginning to stagnate. Some new blood might help. Just can’t promise it will be pleasant. It wasn’t for me.”

“Pain and power go hand in hand. One way or another.”

“...We have 5 years at max. Do you think they will be ready?”

“Knowing that a half-dead 10 year old girl is stronger than most of them combined might help…”

“Just make sure they don’t overextend themselves. It will take a few months for the healers to be trained to a satisfactory level.”

“Do you think those crazy god worshippers will come here?”

“I am counting on it. My grandfather had to close the Healer School because it acted as a temple for that god but we will need everything we can get to survive what is to come.”

“When not even the strength gained through sweat and tears is not enough so men pray to the skies for more, that is a sign of dark times.”

“Pretty sure that isn’t how it was written.”

“Last time I read a book was two years ago, your majesty. I am sorry.” Sir Kazik, said somewhat grinning.
