Chapter 108 - Declaration of War

Chapter 108 - Declaration of War

Maximillian was currently thousands of kilometers away from Azuria in a little town with pretty much nothing but an inn that was also the town bar. With his powers such a trip was quite easy, especially since he had a magical gate prepared not too far from the city that cost infinitely less mana than opening one on the fly.

He was wearing farmer clothes, things that almost everyone around used, so he wouldn’t grab more attention than necessary. As he was eating a sandwich that came with a very basic drink, the one he was expecting finally approached him.

“You have balls making me wait this long and not coming in person.” He said to the woman as she sat at the other side of the table.

“Quite a rude thing to say to a lady.” The woman who looked to be in her early 30 said. She was human, white, with black eyes and silver hair, something quite common in the town.

“I don't care what you think anymore.” Maximillian said as he used a spell that sent both of them inside a dimensional space.

“Now we can talk without the rab…” The woman tried to say but she was suddenly thrown at the wall and pinned there by nails made out of mana.

“FUCK! That hurts! What are you doing?”

“I will be asking the questions here! What is this Legacy I heard about?” He asked with a cold fury in his voice.

“I don’t kno…!” She tried to say but was suddenly assaulted by more nails.

“I am going to ask again. What is this Legacy and why do The Steps want it?”

“I can’t…” Another flurry of nails hit her.

“Do you see this? This is suicide pill made by an alchemist with death mana. I only managed to test a few but if I feed this to this body I am pretty sure you will at minimum be in an incredible amount of pain and if it does what I hope it will do, you will die.”

“Why do you want to know?” The woman asked.

“Your organization interfered with my academy, almost killed my best students and scared my apprentice in ways that you can’t even imagine. You promised me that you were detached from the world, that I would never have to even think about your existence if I kept my mouth shut. You will tell me why my apprentice almost died and a few of you may be left alive when all of this is over.” Maximillian said in a very menacing way. Hatred and anger could be tasted from around him.

“The legacy is supposed to be the material used to craft the Primordial Weapon.” The woman said, clearly in fear.

“What is that?”

“Only the members of the 49th and 50th step really know. But people say it is the strongest weapon to ever exist.”

“Last question. Are you able to send a message to your leader?” This question came out way more seriously than the others. The woman began to tremble.

“Yes.” She answered instinctively.

“Then Mui, Head Apostle of the 38th Step, your leader has a day to send me a confirmation that your organization will keep its nose out of my things or I will take his silence as a declaration of war.” Maximillian said and with a wave of his hand cast a spell that crushed the woman’s head.

Mui quickly dashed from her room towards the calling office where she could contact the leader of The Steps. Something happened and a sleeping beast woke up.

“I need to contact the leader. It’s urgent!” She said to the man in charge of communications. He just nodded and used a spell to contact the leader. Nobody was stupid enough to try to talk with him for no reason so when someone came with an emergency, no questions were asked.

“Hmmm, Mui, right?” A tall pale man, with a beautiful face, long black hair and wearing a white kimono appeared. It was the Leader of The Steps, the one that created the organization.

“Leader, I am sorry for calling you but something happened. Some of our members seem to have gone into the mortal world and caused damage to one of the people listed as someone of importance.” Mui said as she knelled in front of the man.

“Who would that be?” The leader calmly asked.

“Maximillian, the dimensional mage. His students and personal apprentice were attacked by one of ours and he is demanding direct confirmation from you that we won’t ever interfere with him again or he will take that as a declaration of war. He also seems to have a pill that can kill us through our avatars.”

“Quite interesting, sadly, his wants are not our problem, you may ignore him from now on. We will be removing him from our list of future members.” The leader said very calmly.

“May I ask why?”

“The 14th Step may have been almost completely annihilated but all that energy allowed our oracle to finally see where we will find our objective.”

“What does it…” She was going to ask something but she quickly understood that the death of almost all members of the 14th Step, the attack on the students and the fact that Maximillian could kill people using their avatars was all connected.

“Good that you understood. The Primordial Weapon will be forged in a few years time, all we have to do is be the ones that take possession of it. Our new allies will make sure of that.”

“Who?”

“Wanui. They promised me that all the pieces will fall in place not too far into the future. Their goals lie with the legacies themselves, what is done with them is not their problem.”

“So we know where they are?” Mui asked, almost happy.

“Sadly we are still not privy to that information, but like I said. It doesn’t matter, our objective is the Primordial Weapon, then we can finally walk the last step…”
