Once lunchtime was over, everyone got back to the classrooms. The rest of Mia's classes were not something she was expecting, for the most part.
First they were informed that something was finally decided about how they would graduate. They would have their graduation points like everybody but they would earn them in some more diverse ways. One of them was that if the entire class could be on the same minimal level in relation to the more academic classes, they would get some points. Basically, if Mia and Klaws, as they were clearly the outliers, managed to learn what was considered basic knowledge by the rest of the class, they would be closer to graduation.
As the special class, they would have a lot of lessons outside of the academy, things they had to perform to earn their grades. Due to that, they would have some extra lessons that others wouldn't.
Having said that, Mirai had two quick review lessons about math and languages. Mia almost fell asleep due to how easy things were. It looks like there isn't really a universal form of math for things more advanced than the basics so Mirai's job is to grasp how exactly everyone does math at the moment. Due to this, she didn't really notice how easy it was to use the math Mia brought from her old life. Everyone was using something for calculations that Mia was doing with no more than pen, paper and her brain.
As for languages, it was just making sure people didn't forget how to write stuff. She told more than one story about how soldiers who spent too much time on the field, without writing or reading anything, forgot the symbols common in this part of the continent. Common was spoken pretty much everywhere but people write it in different ways. In Azuria, it looks like Japanese katakana, hiragana and kanjis.
The rest of the classes were more physical in nature, Mirai began to explain.
“Now that we reviewed our letters and numbers I will inform what your schedule will be, for the most part, during the last part of the day, for the foreseeable future.” Mirai began to say in a somewhat tired tone. “First, general manners. Some of you must already be familiar with some of it but you will be dealing with a lot of important people in the future so these are needed.”
“Manners as in on what fork to use when you are eating?” Klaws asked.
“Yes, but not only things like that but also how to talk, what to talk about, how to walk, there is also some battle etiquette.” Mirai added.
“Battle etiquette? Like what? What to wear in battle?” Mia asked.
“I believe that what you just said is part of it. You will also be taught how to fight in the right way.”
“Like them?” Klaws asked, pointing to Mathias, Kaki, Luminus and Moon.
“Yes.”
Stolen novel; please report.
“NO!” Klaws and Mia almost shouted in denial.
“No what?” Mirai asked, confused.
“Professor, I admit I am not the smartest person there is but there are things that I know better than others and I know that they are shit fighters.” Klaws said, still pointing at the group from before.
“What!?” All of them shouted in anger and confusion.
“Yeah, they suck at fighting. I bet they never fought seriously with anything.” Mia added. Mia was on the top of the food chain near her old town but that didn't mean that there weren't monsters capable and willing to kill her. Also, upon reflection, Mia understood that unless you were impossibly powerful, you can't hold back in any serious fight you find yourself into. Mia almost killed Dimitri, a man she was pretty sure was on the upper echelons of power in relation to the people she knew. There were ways to punch above your level.
“Take that back. I take all my fights seriously.” Mathias said.
“Then why did you play with your food when you fought those people earlier?” Klaws asked.
“What do you mean?” Mirai asked.
“He never hit vital points on his opponents. Even when the fight was not over he let his opponents get up when they fell. He let them pick their weapons up before continuing to fight.”
“That is basic courtesy.” Luminus said.
“That is bullshit! Not finishing a fight when you can is the height of hubris. An enemy trying to kill you, especially one you are also trying to kill, will not wait for you to be ready to fight on somewhat equal ground.”
“Doing things that way would make you look bad. It would sully your honor.” Kaki said.
“I would take my life over my honor any day of the year. Once you are dead you can do nothing so not trying your best to keep yourself alive is stupid.”
“If I wanted to look good I would go to an art academy or something. We are in a military academy. We are being educated to become soldiers! And soldiers kill their enemies so they can protect those behind them. Any enemies left alive can and will find a way to get back at you. I refuse to learn how to be weak and will do anything in my power to do so!” Mia pronounced.
“Me too!” Klaws added.
Mirai and the others really didn't have a response to that so they dropped the topic.
“Well, continuing what I was trying to explain... After manners, you will have a bodybuilding class. The trainers in charge of all of you will help get the best out of your bodies. Exercise, diets, everything.”
“Cool.” Cassandra commented.
“Lastly is the battle training. The trainers will help you train your current skills or acquire new ones. I heard that a lot of people came forward as trainers for this so you all can have a lot of one on one lessons if you so wish.”
“Wait! What about the other classes? Shouldn't I have a class about magic healing?” Shishen asked.
“And tactics?” Narissa asked.
“Yeah, shouldn't there be something for the less confrontational of us?” Cassandra added.
“She has a point.” Katia said.
“Well, your curriculum is not the normal one. If anything, what you are having now is just preparation for your actual classes. Most of those classes will be more hands-on experience than actual lessons. All of you have to always be part of the same classes so we had to get a little creative.”
This seemed to be an acceptable answer.
With that, everyone left the classroom for the actual classes.
