Chapter 123 - A Real Challenge.

Chapter 123 - A Real Challenge.

The group stopped counting the waves and just focused on numbers. They have defeated 40 people so far, without really putting much effort.

“This is too easy.” Klaws said, not in a bragging tone, more pointing out that something was wrong.

“Probably decided that they should get the trash fighters out of the way first after we decimated the first few groups. This type of challenge has a lot of it.” Mathias said, pointing out to what were clearly people that managed the arena in some way on the stands.

“Gate is opening, let’s get into position.” Luminus said, getting everyone’s attention. Once again they returned to their basic formation with Mathias in the front, Klaws and Kaki on his sides and Moon and Luminus just behind them, side by side with each other.

Once the gates opened, only a single man walked through it but not for a moment the group dropped their guard, the man was the real deal.

“And here we have an unexpected guest! The Mad Boar himself graces us with his presence!” The announcer said as the man reached his position.

The Mad Boar, a boar beastman, was big. He was over 2 meters tall, fat and big but you could still see his muscles. Unlike all the fighters so far he wasn’t using a shirt, only boots and pants. On his hands was spiked kanabo, the weapon was easily over a meter long and made out entirely of metal.

“I am going to break all of you!” The Mad Boar shouted, the crowd going crazy with it.

“His cultivation is higher than any of ours by a lot.” Luminus pointed out.

“Formation 7, don’t care one bit for defense, I will handle it.” Mathia said.

“It’s your ass.” Kaki said to himself.

Once their opponent got into position they went to attack immediately. Unlike the others before this one was ready. Mathias was way ahead of everyone and was the first one to be attacked. The Mad Boar activated his cultivation and swung his weapon straight at Mathias who didn’t even think about dodging. Activating his own cultivation he moved his sword to intercept the attack. He also weaved a quick spell that solidified the ground a little, covering his feet and giving him more footing. Once the kanabo collided with Mathias blade, he was stopped, his spell allowing him to stay somewhat on his feet even as he was pushed a little into the ground.

Kaki was the first to attack after Mathias. On the right side of the Mad Boar he focused all his power on his body and weapon and charged forward, hitting the beastman in the stomach but instead of piercing him, his attack slided off the man’s skin, barely scratching it and only making him stop his clash with Mathias for a moment.

Next was Klaws, as he saw Kaki being redirected to him somehow he jumped, going straight towards the beastman’s head. Channeling all his power he wanted to deal a fatal blow but the beastman just intercepted Klaws' attack with the tusks in his face, stopping any momentum Klaws had.

The Mad Boar then attacked again, this time going for Kaki who had his back open. Mathias quickly intercepted the attack even if he was in a not so optimal position, having to create an even bigger hold made out of stone with magic so he wouldn’t fall on his back. Most people just saw a strange stone appear behind his bed but that stone was perfectly made to sustain him. Still, Mathias had to grit his teeth as the pressure of the attack pressed down on his bones.

“Fuck this! He is almost as bad as the training!” Mathias says to himself.

Luminus takes the opportunity to send his two rapiers flying in the direction of the beastman along with some sand. Using his free hand the beastman creates a psychic barrier to block the attacks, confirming that he is indeed a true cultivator. Luminus’ rapiers stand in the air, trying to fly forward but hitting an invisible barrier.

Moon took the long way around and found himself at the back of his enemy. Using a spell that attached itself to his sword, making it look like a blade made entirely out of darkness, he slashed it with as much power as he could but once again the attack barely did anything, sliding off his skin, leaving a small scratch.

The Mad Boar, feeling someone behind him, lifted his weapon and stomped on the ground, triggering a spell with his foot that sent a wave wind around him that blew everyone, except Mathias who managed to hold his position due to his own magic, away.

“How boring! The little kids trying to prove themselves to nobles! You are shit, you don’t know anything about battle! You might think you have some power but I bet I could do anything to any of the girls you are trying to impress! I bet I even have the money to pay for whatever you are looking for!” The Mad Boar said really loud and full of malice, making sure the boys heard him.

“What!? How did you know that?” Mathias asked as he was the closest one.

“Doesn’t matter. I bet those girls will love a real man, one that knows how to fight, one that isn't a toy soldier. You all should just give up and go play with children. Let the real fighters protect your sorry asses.” The man taunted as he readied another attack on Mathias. The atmosphere changed. What he had said had struck a nerve with all the boys.

There were no words, not even eye contact to show any form of acknowledgment, they all went from serious to deathly serious. Barely anyone in the stands understood what changed.

As the kanabo began to go down on Mathias he gritted his teeth and with a single upward slash he made the attack rebound, sending the beastman's arm in the opposite direction of the swing. Mathias immediately took a slashing stance as his sword was also sent down with the clash. Using another spell he covered his blade in a thick layer of rock and with a furious shout he smashed his sword on the open sides of the Mad Boar, hitting the beastman head on and sending him flying a few meters to the side.

Everyone could clearly see that the attack hurt and before the beastman could get his bearings a flying Klaws was already with both his feet centimeters away from his face, Luminus psychic energy around him as he was the one who sent Klaws flying.

The Mad Boar barely managed to tilt his head backwards enough to not take a direct frontal hit but even as Klaws passed almost straight above him the boy managed to slash the beastman’s face a little.

Putting all his weight forward, the beastman manages to get his footing as he sees Kaki dash towards him. Once again he swings down his weapon, no reason to do anything else as his enemy is coming straight to him. Kaki puts his spear forwards and as he advances he makes the kanabo just slide along his spear and then kicking the beastman’s belly as he gets close enough. Said belly reverberates like a balloon as its owner slides a few meters back. Moon takes the opportunity to send a sphere of darkness straight where Kaki hit. The Mad Boar groaned in pain as he felt his inside being crushed.

For just a moment there was silence but then the beastman roared in rage. His mana began to overflow from his body and he began to run forward, swinging his weapon like a madman. Mathias intercepted him, parrying each of his attacks and staying in his position to not allow the man to advance. His bones ached, his muscles screamed but he along with all his companions had a cold fury in their eyes. This was personal now.

Once he saw a particularly bad swing coming his way, Mathias, still with his sword clad in stone, focused all the energy he could into an attack that sent the kanabo flying out of the Mad Boar's hand. Using the opportunity he then did a downward slash, trying to hit the beastman straight in the middle of his head. The enraged beastman still had enough sense to quickly move his hands to protect him, his cultivation barely being enough to stop the attack.

Just as he felt a block of stone hit his arms, a pair of hands was suddenly on the sides of his head. Something, not a feeling, no, a confirmation that he was going to die was suddenly felt by him. Absolute terror consumed him as she had no idea what was going on.

Moon used a spell on Kaki’s spear, coloring it black with dark mana. Kaki then put all his strength into a throw, sending his spear straight into the chest of the beastman. Once it hit him all the dark mana on the weapon concentrated itself on the tip of the weapon and exploded, sending the beastman flying backward. Luminus quickly used telekinesis to move himself up and not be sent flying along.

Klaws stood in the way of the flying beastman. Focing his muscles and cultivation to the maximum he intercepted the beastman with a punch and with all his power, hurting himself a little in the process, he managed to stop and then send him back the way he came, cracking the beastman’s spine.

Mathias readied himself, he still had energy for a lot. As the beastman was sent in his direction he didn’t hesitate, with a single swing target straight into his head, he smashed the beastman cranium like it was a baseball. An audible crack was heard and when the fat beastman finally stopped, it took several seconds for his body to vanish from the arena, a clear signal that he was dead.

The crowd stood in silence, the announcer couldn’t say a word. Things had changed and everyone could feel it. The boys were taking things seriously but professionally, now…Now they were looking for blood.
