Chapter 78.3 - Report: Luminus

About five minutes after Kaki left, Luminus knocked on the principal’s door and was let in.

“Hello. Did you all come together?” Mirai asked Luminus as he sat in the same place Kaki had before.

“No, I didn’t even know he was here until I saw him leaving. Didn’t see anyone else either.”

“We heard a lot from you friend but we still would like to hear things from your side.” The principal said.

“As for what I did, there shouldn’t be more to add besides what Kaki told you we did. I just spent a few hours more in the field than him because I didn’t get a time out.” Luminus said.

“And how do you feel about everything that happened?” Mirai asked.

“Paradoxically, I feel like shit and don’t really care at the same time.” Luminus said with a neutral face and suddenly the principal understood what was happening.

“Your family cultivation technique, you can’t stop it, right?” the principal asked, very concerned.

“Yes. I will be stuck like this for at least a few more days. My grandpa is coming here to help me put things under control.”

“How long?”

“Around the second day we stayed there.”

“What is going on?” Mirai asked, clearly confused and not liking to be out of the loop.

“His family mind cultivation technique allows one to suppress their feelings while still being able to experience them. There is a small problem that if you get too stressed you might just not be able to stop using it on your own.” The principal explained.

“Yes. I didn’t even notice until Mia came out of the dungeon. I just thought that I was just calm because of everything that happened and my training, but once those monsters began to fight us I noticed that even if I was afraid of what was happening, my mind was crystal clear.” Luminus calmly explained.

“And how are you feeling inside?” Mirai asked.

“I don’t think there is a word that can describe how bad I am truly feeling. I always thought that making decisions based on your emotions was wrong but I got proven wrong.”

“What do you mean?”

“Mia irritates me in a way that not many people can understand but I truly didn’t want her to get hurt on my behalf. But from my point of view at the time along with my mental state, the only logical decision I could arrive at was that I should do anything that might help me survive, even if I had to sacrifice her.”

This story is posted elsewhere by the author. Help them out by reading the authentic version.

“No one is going to judge any of you because of your decisions. That was an extreme situation that no amount of preparation could have prevented.” Mirai said.

“I understand that. But that doesn't change what most of us did. Yes, it is completely logical to want to survive even if you have to sacrifice someone else but making that decision without feeling anything feels extremely wrong, especially if the one being sacrificed is one who would gladly do it with a smile to save your life.”

“If any of you asked I am pretty sure Mia would begin a war if no one above you stopped her.” The principal said.

“And that is my problem with her. She is a force of nature in the shape of a little girl. Why can’t she just act normal? Just be a little girl afraid of the world and let us do our job of protecting her?” Luminus said. He should probably sound angry but he was very calm.

“Do you feel inferior to her?” Mirai asked.

“I am inferior to her in almost every way. I am barely better than her with psychic powers but only because she isn’t allowed to train them for the most part. I am physically stronger too but I can see her surpassing me there. She is going to be very tall, ain’t she?”

“What?” Mirai asked, very confused by Luminus' statement.

“Yes. Mia isn’t allowed to delve into the field of Psychics until she grows a bit. I can tell her mind works differently from most normal people, at least now, so it's better that she is only allowed the very basics until I can make sure she won’t be able to just look at people and read their minds.” The principal explained.

“Don’t feel bad, Luminus. You are very cute.” Mirai said, trying to cheer him up.

“I would like to be called manly but I already made peace with the fact that I look more like my mother than my father. But back to what we are talking about. After talking with my friends, we all confessed that we had our issues with Mia. Mine is probably that I couldn’t accept a girl around my age, much less younger, could be stronger than me. Before I came to the academy, a lot of other kids used to tell me I looked like a girl, that I wouldn’t be able to become a knight because I would get big enough or strong enough. They weren’t wrong in some aspects. I had to focus way more on my mind cultivation than most people in my family had to to get stronger but I reached a place no one believed I could get. I am one of the strongest students of the academy.”

“We would have to go back a few years to get a graduate stronger than you are now.” The principal added.

“Yet, it still is not enough. Once I get fixed and can actually process everything that happened, I will need to reevaluate my choices. I am not looking forward to actually feel what I am supposed to be feeling.”

“Nothing to add?” The principal asked.

“...Nothing relevant. You probably want to know how I felt about our fights against the people who attacked us but I can’t really say anything about them besides that they were the best example of why you shouldn’t underestimate an opponent. I personally want to thank Mia for showing how easily that flaw can be exploited.”

“I bet she will be delighted.”

“No, she will say something like ‘only stupid people don’t just win and go do what they want’.”

“I can see her saying that.” The principal added.

After that Luminus got up and left. It was clear to both Mirai and the principal that he had more to say but didn’t want to. Not that they would probe more. They only hoped that nothing bad happened once his situation was resolved.
