Chapter 38.5 - They Went That Way

“What do you mean she is dead?” A somewhat sickly and pale man asked the current resident of Gina's house.

“She's dead sir. Demon appeared and she wasn’t strong enough to resist it. Sad part is she never saw that girl she treated like her own granddaughter.” The woman explained.

“Granddaughter?”

“Yeah, pretty little thing. Powerful like nothing you ever saw. Killed a bunch of men once. Now that she is truly gone we started to really see how much she made this place lively.”

“A girl killed a bunch of people and you are ok with that?”

“Oh, well, somewhat. I mean, now we know the whole story so we can't really be angry at the girl. And ignoring the fact that she was the strongest person around, she was a really good girl.”

“Ma'am, are you ok? Are you sure you are not sick or anything?” The man asked.

“Look who's talking. Did you take a look at yourself? Well, Gina is dead, this is my house and all her stuff has already been given or sold so unless you plan to buy this house from me, goodbye.” The woman said angrily.

The man for his part just let the conversation end and went back to the meeting point where his allies were waiting.

“So, what did you get?” A man in a dark cloak, clearly the leader there, asked the people there.

“She died here, or at least her body died here.” The sickly man explained.

“And her legacy?” The cloaked man asked.

“Not here.” A human woman explained.

The narrative has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.

“We also heard a lot about some girl she treated like a granddaughter that left the town a while ago.” An elf man explained.

“Yeah, she was said to be stupidly powerful. Maybe she gave it to her? The girl is barely 10 years old and they describe the girl like some sort of walking calamity.” The human woman said.

“Where is this girl? What is her name?” The cloaked man asked.

“Mia and she went to the capital with her family. She will be attending the academy.” A big burly man explained.

“FUCK!FUCK!FUCK! THAT SON OF A BITCH IS THERE!” The cloaked man suddenly shouted as he burst into a rage for a few minutes.

“Are we done?” The sickly man asked once his leader calmed down.

“Fuck no! Go to the capital! Lay low and find what you can about that girl! If she has what we want, we need a way to lure her out of the capital.” The cloaked man commanded.

“And the demon?” The elf woman asked.

“Contact Writer. If the demon was just defeated, we may get some information from it. If he is truly dead, we may need backup.” The cloaked man explained.

“Why?” The burly man asked.

“Truly killing a demon involves more than hitting it really hard. Anyone who can do that is stronger than all of you.” The cloaked man explained.

“Ha! Look, our leader is afraid of demons.” The sickly man joked.

“I said that anyone who can truly kill a demon is stronger than all of you. I can kill a demon.” The cloaked man said after punching the sickly man in the stomach.

“What if we encounter resistance on our assignments?” The elf woman asked.

“Run and hide. Not being found until we are ready to act is the most important thing right now. The only reason I allowed all of you to go around town was because I was pretty sure our target was still here.”

“Ok leader.” The woman said back.

With that, the group separated, each one taking their own method of transportation to reach their destinations. The elf woman summoned a large bird she could ride, the burly man just dived into the ground like it was water and vanished. The human woman rode her horse, the sickly man summoned a giant serpent and lastly the cloaked man opened a dark portal to somewhere.

This group was paid too handsomely to just give up on the job. The fact that the employer would probably also massacre all of them if they failed may also have something to do with it.
