It was the morning of the 5th day since the special class came to the coastal city and things went in a strange direction following the events of the day before.
The special unit composed of Mathias, Luminus, Moon and Kaki, by sheer luck, managed to kill the mage hiding the bandit’s base with illusions when they began to throw stuff into the forest at random while trying to bait other bandits out of it.
Following the unlikely kill, the bandits all withdrew back to their base and began to prepare for what was looking like to be a full frontal assault with all their forces.
For a limited time, the command center of the city’s army managed to take a look at the enemy base and as luck would have, the constant assault from the 4 boys of the special class allowed the few hostages that were there to flee by themselves. So with no real need to assault the base, they could prepare a proper defense of the city to finally deal with the unusual amount of bandits that came to the city.
“Any news of Mia?” Shishen asked, clearly worried as she could barely eat or drink anything that was served for breakfast. The fact that she, along with her classmates were in a war tent, kilometers away from what was going to become the front line of a small war, didn’t have anything to do with it.
“She will likely be thrown out of the dungeon by the end of the day. The people in charge of patrolling the area informed me that the dungeon is closing.” Narissa explained.
“I can’t help but be afraid of what could fight her for over 4 days straight.” Moon said as he drank his tea.
“Nothing that we should really pay any attention to as it is surely dead by now. We also need to prepare for what is to come. What exactly are we going to do?” Mathias asked Narissa.
“If their leader comes in front of his small army, you go in front of us and deal with him. In case he stays behind his men, you ignore the enemy’s army and go after him.”
“So we basically have to deal with their leader, one way or another.” Luminus added.
“Sadly, you four are the only ones who can. If any of the soldiers of the city who could actually take care of that trash with legs left their position, we would have too many holes in our defensive wall and the city would suffer because of it.”
“Any tips? You clearly know more about him than us.” Kai asked.

“He uses both a spear and a saber. Not at the same time but he can easily exchange between the two weapons. He can barely use magic so you don’t really need to watch out for that. Also, ignore anything he says. He will probably try to bribe you if he gets the chance.”
“Why would we give him any attention?” Mathias asked.
“Because he is a piece of shit who has been around for decades now and has a lot of hidden treasure stored around. He can probably do away with one or two piles of treasure he has somewhere if that would mean he gets to live. Pretty sure he has some really important stuff somewhere but we can’t risk him being left alive.”
“Is he supposed to be famous or something?” Moon asked.
“Yes and no. For most of his life he was just a henchman of another powerful bandit but when that one died, he took over things and made a name for himself using what was left by his predecessor. Also, this one is smart enough to not give himself a title so nobody knows if it is really him doing something unless you know his face. Luckily a few of the city guards knew him.”
“Shouldn’t he be powerful if he has been around for so long?” Shishen asked.
“He is a coward. Not only that, the worst kind of coward. That is the overall idea everyone who knows him somewhat gives of him. He might have accumulated some personal power but he can’t use it because he is constantly afraid of something. Probably dying.” Narissa explained.
“Ok, now that we have an idea of our enemy. What about the other 3? Klaws, Cassandra and Katia?” Luminus asked.
“We should probably leave Klaws alone for a while when we get back.” Shisen said, clearly worried about the boy.
“Why?” Everyone else asked in some way or form.
“You remember that his job was to help rescue people, right? And that he had to spend his entire first day fighting monsters?” Shishen asked, everyone nodded affirmatively so she continued. “Well, he had to come back to my medical tent constantly because a lot, and I mean a lot, of venomous and poisonous monsters started to go after him and the other people in the city ruins. It got to the point where I am pretty sure he is immune to poison now. He is also seething with rage and is hunting those things furiously.”
“So he is actually angry at something?” Mathias asked.
“Yeah, I talked with him for a while and he really hates anything that lives in the water now. All he wanted was to be a pack mule for a week, not whatever he is at the moment. At least it was what he told me last time I healed him.”
“Well, let’s hope he calms down when we go back. As for the other two, I know, somewhat, what they are up to. They are negotiating something with a big merchant group. What, I don’t exactly know. I do know that they said something about it being able to help the city recover really fast if the negotiations go through.”
“Well, our enemies should be arriving in a few hours. Go get ready. I will make sure that the way to your target will be as clean as possible.” Narissa said as she began to stand up.
“Yes ma’am!” The four boys said, saluting Narissa, half-joking, half-seriously.
The end was in sight, all they had to do was to finish what they started.
