Chapter 16: Halves of the Total.

Chapter 16: Halves of the Total.

Mia found herself in a strange place, confronted by the holographic projection of her old body devoid of colors. In the next moment, she saw her own body in the same colorless state. As she fully awakened, she realized she was simultaneously seeing her old self and her new self. Between the two versions, there was a small light sphere with a teeter connecting both of her bodies.

Before Mia could fully comprehend the situation, Gina appeared unexpectedly in the place with a body similar to the ones Mia has. “Another failure of mine...” Gina said to herself before sighing. “What, Gina? What are you doing here, what Am I doing here? Where is this?” Mia asked, more confused than before.

Gina chuckled. “This place is your soul space. The area where your soul resides. As for why we are both here. It's so you can be healed.” Gina explained.

“Heal what?” Mia asked, confused. “The hole in your chest. It will probably come back soon enough to you. Now, as to how we both come into this. You cannot heal until your soul is whole again.” Gina explained.

“Whole?” Mia was understanding less and less the more Gina gave information.

“Yes. Those two bodies you see, are just two parts of your soul that I separated so you could live a life that could bring you to your objective. The small ball is just something to guarantee that both parts of your soul don't interact directly with one another and also that they don't just vanish. Not that it matters anymore. Your two halves are connecting to each other now. You probably starting to notice that Mia is just a small part of you since you couldn't access most of what you learned and experienced in your old life as John.” Gina explained.

After a moment of realization, Mia understood Gina's words. She recognized that Gina was the mysterious mystic woman she had encountered in her previous job before her death in her old life.

“It's you!” Mia said in disbelief, pointing to Gina.

“Yes my dear. I was hoping that you never connected things while I was near you but it seems that fate has other plans. Before you ask anything, yes, it was me who kind of killed you when you were John. It was the only way to help you find your way to this world and find the one you were looking for.” Gina explained unapologetically.

Little by little the knowledge of Mia's life as John was coming to her and with that more question that she needed some answers for. “Why did you reincarnate me as a girl?” Mia asked.

“That was all up to luck my dear. You could have been born as a dwarf, elf, beast-people, etc... too. That is also one of the reasons I had to divide your soul. If a soul doesn't match the body, it can't use mana and going by what you wanted to do, you being able to use mana was essential. With the way things were going, the half pertaining to your old life would be absorbed slowly by the half of your new life and you wouldn't lose anything. Now whatever, things are different.” Gina said somberly.

“What exactly will happen when my two halves merge now? I can actually feel that some empty void that I always had but never noticed is beginning to be filled.” Mia asked apprehensively.

“You will feel strange. Instead of your soul slowly morphing into what you are, It will be forcefully molded into what you are now. Most of your memories won't be adapted to your new body so you will feel strange, like a man using a dress since your body is now of a girl. Which is a shame, you are an adorable little girl, I hope you can make peace with that. Besides that, there will be a lot of small changes that you will only notice yourself.” Gina explained, a little saddened.

“Gina, who are you? I don't think anyone normal would know what you just said to me now.” Mia asked inquisitively.

“It's best you don't know. Everyone we know will be in danger if you get that knowledge now.” Gina said in a very serious tone, leaving no doubt in Mia's mind that she should drop this topic.

“It seems that I am now fully connected to my other half, the buffer has vanished. Before we start this for real, where is Jessica?”

“My dear Mia. She is in a very dangerous place. A place that you have to be overwhelmingly strong just to have the qualification to start a journey to get to the entrance.” Gina explained. Mia couldn't do anything more than nod in understanding.

“Now my dear, let's start. It's a shame this will probably be the last time we see each other. It was already hard enough to acquire this body, I don't think the people after me would let me snatch another one.”

Having received the answers she sought, Mia allowed Gina to merge the two halves of her soul. After what felt like an eternity, Mia's soul became whole, and Gina vanished from the strange space. Mia had numerous questions, but she believed that she could find Gina again and obtain the answers as long as she grew stronger.

As Gina disappeared, Mia's new self settled in. Surprisingly, her soul's appearance perfectly matched her physical body. Occasional memories of being a man flashed in her mind, causing some discomfort, but the ten years as Mia helped alleviate it to some extent.

Mia understood that a part of her previous self was lost in some way. She realized that her old self would cringe at her recent actions and she also acknowledged that she had regressed mentally. Mia knew that she would use her newfound powers to achieve remarkable feats in the eyes of others without minding the consequences just like her child self did before. It had become a part of her. However, her love for her family remained unchanged. Now she understood the fear they felt toward her, realizing it was a normal reaction to her extraordinary abilities. Though it hurt that her family still feared her, Mia accepted it as a normal response.

Additionally, she acknowledged that Onyx was a wolf but still an exceptional and loyal companion—the best of boys.

Mia began to feel a drowsiness enveloping her, aware that once she fell asleep in this space, she would awaken in reality. Yielding to the sensation, she allowed herself to drift away, and moments later, she started to wake up.

It took a few moments for her brain to fully awaken and for her to open her eyes. As she did, she saw her mother standing beside her bed, holding her hand and trying to hold back tears.

With tears streaming down her own face, Mia gently patted her mom's head.”I love you mom, you look better smiling.” Mia said as best as she could. In an instant, her mother embraced Mia tightly, soon joined by the rest of her family, who had appeared without her notice.

Accepting their love wholeheartedly, Mia made a new vow to herself. She was Mia, the son of Marry and Huang. Lin was her second mother, Choi and Kai were her brothers, and Liza was her god-aunt. While she would pursue her original goals and search for what she had lost, she would never abandon this new family. She was no longer alone and never wanted to be again.
