Nemo could not believe that there were people who could survive his cut. He had attacked that guy with a blade that cut through space itself, normally ignoring any armour his opponents could wear, making this phenomenon unbelievable to him.
He did not go into temporary torpor that day, even if it was a skill all Margans his age had to learn.
He pondered that scene, the way his blade guttet his opponent before they stitched themselves back together.
The entire day was spent searching for an opportunity to escape, and when none appeared before him, he finally decided to rest. At any point there were at least two people watching him, and when he finally heard a knock on the wood of his door, he was almost relieved that he had stood his ground and not gone to sleep. A decision he would regret the very next moment, as the group of black creatures began to march on a track north, and he was expected to talk to their leader and listen to the villains speech. He had heard many, generals that wanted to explain the slaughter of innocents, lords that thought the abuse of civilians was just, and the bastard next to him must have been one of them.
"So, why exactly did you attempt to... you know, kill me?"
His thoughts were interrupted by the abominations question, as if he did not understand the vileness of his deeds.
"You slaughtered them, tore their souls straight from their bodies, and left them to die in the dirt."
He said, attempting to hold his cool as the one calling himself a prophet smiled at the accusation.
"We simply purged the influence of those false gods from them. If you truly are the Hero of the void, you should know by now that the gods are merely parasites, and the berrys are the ones that brought my body into the great Miasma, before I broke out from it. We are on the path of revenge and conquest to claim a place for our kind to inhabit while the heretics wander the land. Most of them are not dead, and the others will probably help their fields regrow, the abominations inside hopefully dead without their worship to feed them. These guys were darker than any elve or demon could be."
Jeolas informed him. Nemo, now more confused than anything, stared at him for a solid minute before answering.
"How could they possibly have been doing bad stuff? They barely even resisted as your peoples blades sliced through them. I don't think a creature that cute could possibly torment another."
Jeolas projected his frills in a fake smile at that, his back vibrating a quick command that resulted in a blade of light being shoved through the unsuspecting assassin.
"You see how this blade only hurts a little? It judges your belief in the Primordials and your loyalty to their followers, and given your slightly disrespectful nature, it quite literally burns away the corruption from your soul. How does it feel to be purified?"
He asked, the still shocked Nemo staring down at the glowing blade inside him. As he turned around to see who it was, he was greeted by seven slimy black Larv in even darker robes.
"So, what do you say, will you follow us, or do we have to fight? Because you are obviously a hero, given the lack of a reaction you showed to something that tends to knock people out."
The Warlock stated, the Assassin, realizing that he was in a rather unfortunate position, sighed at that.
"Sure, I'll follow your lead until we reach our destination. Any rules you guys follow?"
He asked, and before Jeolas could even begin to answer, Paladin answered.
"My lord, the council has met to decide on how to support your grand plan best and attempted to write down a few rules on how we should behave. I assume this would be the perfect time for you to judge them and teach us the ways in which we might have misjudged your sacret intentions."
He procured a small crystal, the eight sides reminding Thimon of a game he once loved to play with his friends.
.
The Tenets Golden: Conclude all that thou began.
Blue: Thou shall be true to thy brothers in faith.
Cyan: Thou shall resist what distracts from thy path. Amber: Thou shall always strive for greatness. Green: Always find the reason behind thy deeds. Purple: Thou shall respect peoples choices, so long as they respect yours. Crimson: Heretics are not people. White: Strive to do right by the order.
"Although some of them are harsher than I would articulate them, I agree that this fits my general intention and the path we should all strive to follow."
He agreed, and suddenly, the worship between him and his subjects changed.
It flowed through the tenets now, the eight rules acting as an amplifier or total stop of power the moment he recognized it as true.
"Nemo, are you ready to live by these tenets while we spend time together?"
He asked, and as he concluded that a quiet nod was better than nothing, they continued their journey towards the north, the monumental wall of rock slowly becoming visible in the distance.
