1.8. The Berries.

The day was uneventful and allowed Fliegenda to catch two to three hours of rest before he awoke, feeling as if he could not sleep a second longer.

When he deactivated his skills and returned to his normal form, a window greeted him immediately.

Restfull petrification reached level 5.

Become breeze reached level 4.

"Nice! I'll just have to level become breeze a little more and do something with both of them to fill my last skill slot, though I'm unsure what I should do... maybe I'll just start walking towards the civilisation I saw on the horizon earlier?"

As he talked to himself, it was like his feet began moving on their own.

At first, he jogged towards his goal, then he infused his steps with a bit of Jet legs and become breeze, the partial activation making him faster, but still visible as he proceeded on his way.

"I wonder what the settle ment will be like, will it be inhabited by elves, or maybe Humans? Do humans even exist? What if they are elves, would they hunt me down like the other elves did, or will they accept that goblins can be people too?"

Again, he spoke his thoughts loud, his breezy form turning it into a gentle hum of syllables as the green plains around him where slowly overtaken by what seemed to be endless fields of cereals, his human common sense reminding him not to step into another persons work, unless you knew a way to help them.

He could have sworn that he walked for hours around the cereal see when he finally spotted a paved path through, the area neetly maintained and offering a view towards building in the distance, the gigantic cereals having grown larger than the buildings

Fliegenda took a tentative step inside, and immediately felt disconnected from the world around him. As he walked further inside the sound of laughter soon emerged and children even smaller than him almost ran him over with a wheelbarrow, their fad jiggling and the heads pulled deep into their faces to protect them from the sun.

He went further along the trodden path, trying to take in everything he could.

The air smelled fresher than outside, the gentle swaying of the corn field making him lethargic.

He stopped his every skill and just let him enjoy the respite from the dangers outside and kept wandering.

"Hello, is there someone?"

He called out, English the language of his choice as he hoped for it to work with the rodund creatures.

And it did. After a while, he entered what must be the marked square, twenty creatures around his size approached him.

One asked something, and the others answered with different words. It was a language he did not understand, and thus, he looked up at the almost one and a half meter high creature.

"Sorry for disturbing you, but I don't think I understand your language, sir..."

He exclaimed, another one of them smiling.

"He speeks the language of the green ones, and despite having fewer arms than most have and a pair of wings instead, we know how quick the green ones adapt. Welcome, green Friend. How where your travels? Have you brought anything to appease the old gods, or does your king believe you to be superior to us Berries?"

He asked, his mouth smiling like the others, but his eyes were focussed and sharp.

"Do not worry, Berrie friends, I do not know of a goblin king, though that might be because I lost my own tribe not long ago.

On my journey to find a Home, I stumbled upon these endless fields of yours. Thus, I hope to find a home among you, or guidance on how to find a new tribe to live amongst."

He answered, the creatures that seemed like a mixture of fad men and naked bears infecting him with their seemingly endless mirth.

"Sure! Help us in the harvest ritual, and we shall take you as one of ours. What do you say? Are you ready to harvest corn, drink beer and find a wife? For that it means to be a Berrie."

The old man said, his gaze not leaving him for more than a minute part of a second.

"I will!" Fliegenda agreed. He knew he could not stay, he had a contest to win, and not growing stronger every day would hinder his progress. But at the same time, Fliegenda needed a break. He might not know how to wield a scythe, but harvesting the grain could not be hard, even as one of his hands was missing.

The Berries giggled and their fad bounced, and thus, Fliegenda began to work on cutting parts of the field, though the Berries where almost religious in the amount that could be harvested each day by one person.

"Tell me, what is your name?"

He asked the Berrie working next to him, the fellow smiling.

"I am Berry, do you like parties?"

As Fliegenda agreed, they continued their work until they had enough and went back to Berry's home, where some Berries sat around a pot and stirred the stew for the evening.

As everyone was done harvesting their part, the Berries met in the middle of the settlement to eat the stew together.

As Fliegenda drank beer and ate stew like he hadn't eaten in days, he made some light conversation with the Berries.

"So, Berries, how are your nanes, and what do we do in the harvest festival?"

One of them giggled.

"In the harvest festival, we thank the old gods, of course. And your roll will be to speak the sacret words under the harvest nights fullmoon."

That night, Fliegenda went to bed satisfied, and even as a bad feeling crept up on him, he did not stop to consider it.

In minutes he fell asleep dreaming of Beer and cereal.
