As the trio ran for their lives, they contemplated the decisions that led to this moment.
"You know, maybe we should have a better plan than that next time..."
Norman mumbled as they ducked under a branch hanging in their way.
"We won't be comitting mass murder anymore, does that sound like a deal to you? Exterminating one population in revenge is enough, especially now that we blamed it on someone else. That was enough, right? I almost lost it there, but you had to remind me that this isn't a game. Everyone here is a real person, and we slaughtered innocents... well, can't say the plan failed though. Just no more useless slaughter."
Goron proposed, the Idea making Norman sigh and nod.
"I guess... I just can't let go of what they did to our people back then. It's just so annoying that I can't avenge everyone."
The Ranger complained before they sat down in a cave that seemed uninhabited.
Goron looked into his eyes, more serious than ever before as he put an arm around his brother.
"You know I have the memories of three people, right?"
Norman nodded.
"you mentioned that a few times, so yeah, I know."
Goron sighed.
"You see, two of these memories have had a story with truly evil people. One had his dreams broken by them as he was never good enoughfor them. They beat him when they thought that he lied, when his grades weren't good... parents aren't always good for you. Especially when they see everyone else as tools, like we saw those born of frost. And I once swore to not be like them. Yesterday I was like them, and I really can't allow that to happen again."
He told him, his hand never leaving the smaller Njord.
"A part of me, Fliegenda, wants to avenge his family and slaughter the elves. The other swore not to be like his parents, and Gorons memories yearn for the extermination of those born of snow. You see where that leads? My memories and instincts yearn for a path of blood and vengeance, one I can't possibly follow, not when we are supposed to be Heroes."
Goron told his friend, his face one of grim determination as he announced his goals.
"Now let's set up camp and eat something to get the taste of people out of our mouths, shall we?"
He asked, going to search for sticks and berries while his brother had to process the information that was just dumped on him.
When he returned, he saw Frostbite in Normans lap who was leaning against the cavern wall.
"I brought berries..."
He popped one into his mouth.
"And so far, they only make me a bit high, you want some? They taste delicious too."
He offered, his friend directly taking a handful.
Then, Boron took the rest and both of them just sat on the wall, the wood infront of them and a content Frostbite in between, enjoying the scratches and pats as they looked towards the sinking sun.
"Four months is quite the journey, isn't it?"
Norman asked, smiling as he searched for structures in the stars.
"Yeah, that'slonger than Fliegenda lived. It was about a week after his birth that I overtook his body. Don't worry, he was a goblin, so that was fine. No, he was a goblin without weight, somewhat of a flagship of my whole existence. When his family was killed by elves, he set out to kill them, only for one of his skills to work differently than intended. He killed one of them and was transported far away. When he was just about tonlose it out of Isolation. You have to understand that goblins are much more social than even those born of frost and Humans, he met the Berries. Short collection of that, he killed the champion of their god after they tried to sacrifice him and was killed in the process, torn limb from limb to anihilate his opponent. Tell me your story, Norman."
The Ranger looked at him, and as he told his story, Gorons drug addled mind supplied the pictures and scenes.
"I used to fight in the first war of gods, when the Primordials chose their champions to defend the world from the ever growing threat posed by the other realms. Until then, rifts had grown more and more common, and reality itself began to warp. Elementals, gods and Demons stood side by side to fight the Primordials, taking aspects of their domains and making them their own. The system is run by one hundred gods alone, and weakening them would return power to the ancient one.
It was simple, specters came to mortals and helped them, inciting worship towards them. Now that they had taken that spark from the Primordials, they took more and more, until, in a final battle, most of us died. For that battle they took those born of frost, their original name lost as they gave themselves completely to their gods, thus gaining the ever changing name as a mark of shame. Born of frost, ice or snow, they are heretics and do not deserve anything more than that reference. We fought for three centuries on the front of the Njord army, our supporters dwindling as more and more enjoyed the easy help of gods, giving their souls to guel their own power.
As the fighting came to an end, and each of the primordials was locked away, each of them took it upon themselves to preserve their champion. Nas'ri froze the north bejodn salvation, and put me on the worlds northernmost spot. The systems champion was send to a world without magic to return once he had grown powerful enough.
I do not know what happened to the others, but it seems that your task is to reunite us, and thus Furchenstein will be our meeting point."
He explained, any further attempts at communication halted as he fell asleep.
"I wonder." Goron whispered into the night.
"Do all of us have a backstory that tragic? And if my task is to unite everyone, then why does it require me to die over and over. System, you are responsible for placing me in the correct areas to the best timing, aren't you? Slowly bolstering their bodies to fit my requirements without anyone noticing and changing memories to make it as if they had always been that way? I just wanted to thank you, and I promise to dismantle the false divines influence wherever I step. May our efforts be rewarded and our progress eternal. I am many, and from the Next Life onward, I should go with names like legion and warden. Can you guide me in the process of forging my soul?"
His questions where unanswered, but at the same time he felt his unique perks and skills acting up. His intelligence allowed him to draw upon them and felt them ready to refine his soul.
"Doing that now would probably kill me, and the berries influence would absolutely lead to bad decisions. I'll just go to sleep now."
And as if on command, he closed his eyes and fell asleep, Frostbites gentle snores accompanying him into his feverish dreams.
