2.7. Raid

It was evening in Northbridge as Jhan took over the shift on the bridge.

Nothing except for a few Bols bothered him at this time of day, and even they knew to hold their distance by now.

The oldest among them would usually tell stories of giants, armies that towered over them, and were only held back because they could not pass their magical barriers and the superior weaponry that those born of snow possessed.

Jhan thought fondly of the warriors. If a bit stuck in the stories, even their grandparents only taught them to keep the children inside.

He chuckled.

"Other cultures need only one monster. We are strong enough that our children don't fear armies of those horrifying creatures."

A grin spread, and filled with pride, he took his sword and shield.

"And now that the fighters are gone, only a few hunters and recruits are left to hold back the Bol."

He complained, the isolation getting to him as the boredom set in.

He didn't have any reason to complain, though, for as cold steel passed through the recruits armour, a low voice answered.

"Thank you for the information. You don't draw attention when you want to survive past that cute border of yours."

It said, then he was tossed in the river, which quickly brought his freezing body downstream.

"We should have taken his keys..." Goron grumbled, though the squeaking of doors revealed them to be unlocked, as frostbite gently nudged it.

"You know what? I was about to feel bad, but that guy kind of deserved to be thrown over the bridge for leaving his home undefended at noticing us sneaking in... and you can't say that we were particularly silent, we just used that spell I made up on the spot, and somehow it worked. I didn't even know how light Mana felt before I tried it, but it seems it's a lot more like air than it is like ground."

Norman just let out an exasperated breath. His friend had been talking the whole way now, not even shutting up when he literally killed a guy.

"Let's just slaughter them and be done with it, we can't do a proper stealth mission if you keep commenting every corner we cross.:

Goron nodded.

"So, we agreed not to lock them in their own homes and set it all on fire, right? That means we go in, suffocate them with their pillows, and skin them."

Both nodded and went right to the execution.

A part of goron wanted to save the children and mothers, but he had seen enough Anime to know where that would be going, and he definitely didn't need any rivaling white knights or anything like that, especially as those tended to be main character or really important side characters, and thus couldn't be defeated.

He knew that in reality, leaving some to intimidate the others would be a great plan, but they wanted a genocide, and genocides did not allow for any survivors. Especially not ones that could come back one day and avenge their family with the righteous power of some god or another.

The attack went smoothly for the most part. Go in, slice necks and stuff mouths with pillows, drag a few of them out, bind them against the totem pole in the Villages center and prepare to torture them until the first dead rose as the unliving. Following that, they would run away and thus frame it on the Necrotorum.

When they saw the people gathered in the middle, Goron had to fight the urge to cry for them or save their lives.

"You will be part of something greater, don't worry."

He promised, knowing how hollow it must sound to people who were currently facing to people almost double their height and a hungry Frostbite.

"We have some plans, but elaborating on them in a monologue would make me a villain, and I'm obviously doing something good, as I will be punishing you for your ancestors' deeds... I wish I could look away, but you will perish for the greater good. Abandon all hope, as your family will return to join the horde you shall become."

And at that, they left Frostbite to her meal, and Norman to execute his revenge.

Goron himself had to hold back screams and cries for mercy the entire time, knowing that he would be damned to dwell in the lower planes of existence should he ever truly die. But that was necessary.

He went full gamer mode, those times he deliberately did his worst just to get a hidden item, assuring himself that this was the same.

"It's just a game. No one except me and the champions are real, they can't be, they behave too much like the tropes..."

He blended out every memory of people acting like non player characters in real life and focussed more on the behaviour of the people in front of him.

"This is plot relevant." He told himself, the lie ringing truer with every iteration of these words, enhanced as he opened his character sheet.

He put the points into Agility, Dexterity and Intelligence, the mechanical fulfillment of the deeply ingrained process somehow furthering his delusions. He slipped into the core memories of Goron, the first elven encounter of Fliegenda, and the betrayal of True G0d. But he still felt shame for what he did. He knew it was wrong, and even that they where real people.

He set down in a lotus position to assure himself that he wasn't a bad person, and delved into memories Thimon had locked away for most of his life.

----------------------------------------

"Come down, or there won't be any food for you again."

The voice of his father yelled. He knew he couldn't reject it, or he would be in for a beating.

"Yeah, I'm coming."

They probably needed his help preparing the table, with his mother cooking and his father lazing about on the couch. The fad pig had a head as red as a siren. A quick look confirmed it, the swollen red nose an indicator that the bottle of cheap whine next to him wasn't the first he drank that day.

He had to close the stream, setting a log in its place to keep the attention of at least some of his viewers.

He never told his parents how much he made with streaming, as they would take a cut of it for energy costs. Money that the old bastard would spend for another bottle of wine. He drank two of them every evening, sometimes three.

So as he was ince again asked how school was going, he put on his best fake smile and answer that it was decent enough.

They only noticed the D in German anyway, the B's in everything else forgotten. Thus, he began to lie. He hated lies, but some people don't deserve the truth. As he saw their careless attitude though, he remembered why he dove into that memory, and the hatred he held flickered away completely.

----------------------------------------

"We can't be like them... I can kill warriors and I can kill hunters, but I won't kill these people... let's stay calm and peaceful until we are done. We can just kill those capable of defending themselves and leave those who submit be. We can take whatever we need, but killing all of them will only draw other peoples attention. We are not ready to take on whatever is currently fighting them."

He said, his stern look growing into one of fear as he saw their work completed and the first among the corpses already rising.

"We won't do that again, you heard me?"

Norman and Goron barely escaped, Frostbite always runnin infront of them as they sprinted for their lives.

"No more random slaughter, that has to have been enough..."
