2.3. Confessions and classes

When they finally came to a halt, Normans gaze felt piercing on Gorons back, thus prompting Goron to sit down and face his friend.

"I am the Champion of a deity that calls himself True G0d, and he made me technically Immortal. Right now I am trying to comprehend the knowledge of two former lifes..."

Norman stared at him and sighed.

"Ok, what's the catch with that?"

He asked, instantly suspicious.

"Well, brother, I had a life on another world, one as a goblin and now I an a Njord. And I have to fight other champions every once in a while. Oh, and I made this body specifically to survive this fight in, but it is only my second, and I really don't want to test how much I still lack to reach perfection, so... don't kill me, I guess."

The slap that followed could be heard for miles, or at least it felt like that for Goron, as his friend once again proved his speed.

He could not have prevented it even if he wanted to, though he knew how relieving a good slap can be.

"Still same thoughts?"

Norman asked, curious whether his friend had somehow been poisoned by something, but as the bigger of the two nodded, he accepted the weird story of his friend as the truth, or at least the closest to the truth he would ever get.

"And you didn't tell me because you where busy getting to know yourself?"

He continued the questions, his eyes only going soft after he was sure his friend told him everything.

"Good to know, man. I'll forgive you, just be honest next time, I really don't want to be lied to, lies are for weaklings and southerners."

As both of them closed their eyes, Frostbite layed in top of Goron, their breath synchronizing as he began to pet her, both falling asleep shortly after.

In his dreams, the system projected a notification for him.

Level up, please choose a class.

You gained a companion, Frostbite and you are now connected.

Your inner rage burns away at your soul to fuel your body with power.

Allows to burn away at your own soul to rage. Raging will massively strengthen your body. Anima apprentice. You are a mage on the path of souls. The power to call upon souls Paladin of Possession. You swear loyalty to the astral hive, allowing your soul to channel its power, as you join the millions of minds already caught within. Analyze: you can ask the hive for information. Astralist You are not bound to your body alone and have seen at least three different realms of reality. Utilizing the remnants those realms have left on your soul, you can see the influence of the otherworldly and utilize it. You get basic abilities related to manipulating the realms while banishing or utilizing otherworldly influences.

"So... if we disregard the fact that those are absolutely creepy options, I'll disregard Barbarian and Paladin. I really don't want to loose my soul. I do not want to be a necromancer or soul mage, that sounds heavily forbidden. Now that I have to choose between throwing things around and being a summoner, I'll choose the latter. There is no way Astralist isn't a summoner class, and summoning is op."

And as he made his choice, his five new tokens dissapeared inside, and he fell asleep completely.

When the trio awoke the next day, Goron saw the world completely differently.

The world around him felt foreign, as if something wrong permeated every inch of it. His attempts at utilizing the system felt wrong, every spell drawing things from outside of the world. He did not quite understand, maybe because he didn't want to, maybe because it was never meant for him to comprehend, all he knew was that magic is foreign, though nothing was more foreign to this world than his own body. The state lasted a second, before his status page updated.

"Fuck... I hate this choice already..."

He looked at Norman, sighing.

"Probably just the class initializing."

He mumbled, now only his body glowing in his new sense.

"Hey, Norman, be prepared for the class initialization, it kind of bugs a bit at first, but after a while it will calm down."

His brother smiled.

"Thanks, but my choice didn't really have any effects other than a better understanding of weapons and my own body. I'm a fighter by the way, and it seems even Frostbite had an advancement yesterday."

The Bol barked happily, her fur now blending easily into the snow as she jumped against Gorons chest.

"Yeah, we should head out, if we keep marching, we should see the Gazer in about an hour."

Goron agreed.

The next minutes of the march where mostly eventless, only the occasional small beast that went close enough for Frostbite to hunt and the game of fetch the two started after a while.

After about one hour of walking, his assumptions proved right. A massive tower stood on the hotizon, intimidating them even from the impressive distance theystill had to venture. Like a divine spear the construct thuck in the ground, breaking the clouds as it ended just out of sight.

"I've heard the tales, but this is much more impressive than anyone could have told us..."

Norman stammered, and Goron nodded in silent agreement, not trusting his words as the divine structure hindered his every move.

But the worst feeling was the pressure that emenated from it. There was a champion at the top, and it was powerful enough to be a proper challenge, but this time, he swore himself, he would not die to whatever it was. He created himself as a tank, and a tank he would be. Nothing could possibly hold him back this time, and maybe he could rally an army to be remembered. After all, nobody wants to continuously die meaningless deaths.

"There is someone in there, and he hates my guts. You think we will take long to reach the top? Because we should really dash towards the entrance and set up camp down there. Something tells me that we don't want to spend more time than absolutely necessary. What do you say, Norman. Ready for a dash and a full day of sleep, followed by fighting random things in our ancestral divine tower?"

The fighter laughed, grinning as he pulled an improvised sword from its sheath.

"No better time than the present to hurry up and slay creatures of myth and legend. You ready for that?"

And thus, both of them got ready for the final day of travel, before they would try and enter.
