Chapter 68: Answers

Preview: “Kuack!” Screamed Seron out. He did not expect to be hit as his expression darkened and blood flowed from his side. He immediately dispersed into darkness and appeared in another place.

“That spear.. Is strange. Where did you get it?” Asked Seron as he bewildered at the fact that he was hit. He was supposed to be darkness itself, how could darkness be hit? Unless the weapon that the enemy was holding had some magical property like the one in front of right now.

“Why are you asking? It’s not like you can make it.” Asked Yhale in an irritated tone. He didn’t like this bastard who kept talking about food here and food there and treated everyone as nothing more than prey even though he was no different..

“Keke, foolish. You really think we can’t? Ah right, you are from above so you must be ignorant. Well, I do not want to continue this fight where I can possibly lose so I will offer them up to you.

Be good and grow well. And by the way, my noble name is Seron, remember that.” Seron left these words behind as he dispersed into darkness and retreated to the Darkstone City. He did not wish to continue a losing fight as he could just return to the city and make use of the large manpower.

Shortly after returning, he met the three noble Shadow Demons from earlier and was surprised to see their expression that was darker than this strata.

“What’s wrong?” He asked as he had a bad hunch about things.

“Our hunt failed, we met three strange demons that wiped out our team.” gloomily confessed the leader among the group. He was the only one among the three to reach the Middle stage of Level 3 Low-Rank Demon and could activate some of the powers of his magic circuit while Seron was at the Late stage and could descend if he had the opportunity.

“Tsk. tsk. Interesting.” Seron’s face was full of interest as he thought back to his fight. Although that demon was weak, his toy was definitely interesting. If they met next time, he would drown him in a sea of demons.

. . .

“Huff. Huff. That monster is finally gone.” Muttered Yhaele in a short breath as he reminisced on the earlier fight. Although he managed to wound him, it was purely due to a coincidence and he couldn’t ensure another chance might come. Thankfully, the Shadow Demon was conscious of his status as a noble and was wary of being defeated. Otherwise, he might’ve died today.

“That thing.. Was like the Shadow Hound..” Whispered Penra in a low voice.

“Shadow Hound?” Yhaele tilted his head in confusion. Shadow Hound? What could it be? He hadn’t heard of it before.

“It was a Mid-Rank Demon we managed to kill only after almost dying. He was so strong and it was a fluke that we managed to kill him.” Pendra said. “That’s right!” and Sunirae echoed his sentiments.

“What.. You guys killed a Mid-Rank Demon before??” Yhaele was so confused at the situation as he raised his voice, attracting the elves’ attention.

“WHAAAT, you guys killed a Mid-Rank Demon before ???” They were also confused as Fairheth rushed to Sunirae and asked. She was someone who felt good about Sunirae so she wasn’t too afraid. She was just shocked because she knew the power of Mid-Rank Demons according to the records. She knew they were called Little Disasters with their ability to manipulate magic.

“Yes, but it was a fluke as Pendra said. At that time, I just absorbed the Holy Light from a special place and managed to kill him due to it. But I also exhausted the Holy Light and now I barely have any..” Sunirae continued as the two elves blankly stood at the side. They could no longer hear. Fluke? Holy Light? Mid-Rank Demon? How could a demon, no, a Low-Rank Demon absorb Holy Light and even use it?? They were very confused.

They knew what Holy Light was and knew it was a very potent energy only used by priests in human continents and can be used to heal wounds and purify evil beings. But here in Hell, there’s Holy Light? It was like saying there’s poop inside the Vatican that was not cleaned.

However, it was really what happened. “Wait, how was there Holy Light in Hell in the first place..?” Simnan asked the question that bothered Yhaele as they awaited further answers.

“I don't know.” Sunirae answered honestly. She really did not know. In fact, most demons would not know unless they are very old and lived through the war. But not many of them survived and most that did are missing.

“Don’t look at me, I don’t know either.” Pendra hurriedly cleared his innocence as he told the truth. No one really knew.

“Okay, let’s say no one knew but then how can you absorb and use the Holy Light?” Fairheth had a twinkle in her eyes as she questioned, it was the eyes of a scholar, or more accurately, a research fanatic.

“That… I don’t know either..” Sunirae answered the truth and Pendra hurriedly shook his antennae.

“Hmm. That's interesting.. Hwehwehwe” Fairheth made a strange laugh as she thought about the principles that could possibly be behind it. A demon that could absorb and make use of Holy Light? It awakened the scholarly instinct in her soul and trembled. It would seem that the days ahead of Sunirae are… bleak?

Just then, her knees collapsed and she fell down. But before she could fall over, Yhaele who was at the side caught her and managed to hold her. Simnan was about to rush but stopped after seeing Yhaele rushing as he was closer.

Weird, demons know what help is as well? I thought they were just a bunch of bloodthirsty maniacs…

This incident reminded Simnan that perhaps they were too prejudiced about demons and blurred their perception of the other race due to the stereotypes surrounding them.
