Preview: This gave him a headache as he was used to fighting reckless and aggressive demons who would charge mindlessly at him with a single provocative word.
The demons rushed out of their hiding spots, either from the thickets of bushes or large boulders. Either way, none of that mattered as darkness enveloped the entire place, making locating and tracking them difficult and would just be a waste of time.
Sunirae only waited for the enemy to approach like an experienced fisherman and then whoosh! Pitch-black roots appeared either from underground, to the side, or above. Their angles were weird, some were curved, straight, diagonal, parabola and etc.,
“You..”
The demon who’s heart was pierced by Sunirae’s roots fell down. He weakly lay on the ground gasping, confused as to how he died.
He didn't even have the time to cry out loud when his comrades followed in his footsteps. Blood stained the dark and cold hard floor of the Underworld as their figures collapsed.
The shadows hiding in the dark awaiting for a chance to launch a sneak attack had their expressions twist in fear. They did not expect the prey they wanted to hunt was very powerful and cunning.
Even they, who were the masters of concealment and assassination did not notice such a strike so hidden from the deepest depths of the darkness that surrounded their mere mortality. Horror flashed in their faces as their silhouettes shifted and swam agilely in the darkness.
Sunirae could vaguely sense their existence but could not pinpoint their exact coordinates in the darkness. This gave the three Shadow Demons a chance to escape and run away.
"That thing just now was too terrifying." One of the Shadow Demon muttered with a horrified expression after they managed to create some distance between them and the strange sunflower.
“Indeed, that fellow was too sinister and cunning!” Another Shadow Demon amongst the three echoed his sentiments.
“But how did that thing manage to kill the demons we hired for help? Didn’t they just recently descend?”
A crucial question was raised by the last Shadow Demon as their expressions changed greatly. That’s right, those low level demons have just arrived here and are unfamiliar with the place, how could they possibly fight back?
This novel's true home is a different platform. Support the author by finding it there.
“It couldn’t be…”
“Were we tricked?!”
They looked at each other as they tried to remember the details of the event. Indeed, although the plant-type demon managed to kill their helpers easily, it was only through good luck, wise judgement and cunning arrangements.
Those demons definitely did not possess the ability to see through their concealment and assassination and could only defend passively.
Thinking of this, their expressions immediately turned extremely ugly. Realizing that they might have run away so quickly that they forgot to pay attention and were fooled. They, the Shadow Demons, who are usually well-known for their cunning and sneaky behavior finally suffered a blow at this time.
They were usually arrogant and confident but they never took their prey lightly. It was also why they weren’t hunted despite their hateful and conceited attitudes. Their work ethic was simply superb and they knew when to be careless and serious.
And now, they just broke their usual work ethic and didn’t manage to hold their calm. They were actually tricked by a brat demon who had just descended. How could they not be angry?
“It's okay. At least, if there was something wrong with it, we still managed to escape with our lives. What if that thing had a trump card and was forced into a corner by us?”
“You’re right. Retreating was definitely the wisest decision there. We didn’t know the exact situation and thus, running was the only option left.”
“We should gather more information about them in order to compile a more thorough assassination plan next time and wash this humiliation.”
The three gradually calmed down and moved on from this event. They quickly agreed and came to a conclusion as they headed back to Blackstone City, the nearest demon city nearby.
The Third Level of Hell’s overall area was much smaller than the Second Level but this place was more advanced.
The demons here already possess human-like intelligence and rationality as they started to build civilizations of their own and create cities.
Unfortunately, due to the limited space, only three cities rose and were established respectively by the overlord of their own area during the olden times. Each city had an old history that was relatively intact and conserved. Thus, the future generations learned the glory of their cities and founders and strive hard to become like them.
To defeat countless demons, conquer a domain and establish a city of their own. Then descend and become a Mid-Rank Demon and completely change their life level.
But unfortunately, many Level 3 Low-Rank demons wished to do so but couldn’t achieve it. Replicating the deeds of their ancestors was simply too difficult and over time, the demons got used to living in the cities and just treated it as their homes.
They still possessed the dreams they once had but they were no longer as colorful. The endless tempering of darkness and blood taught them the hard way that potential matters a lot as it decides your starting point and ending point.
. . .
Sunirae absorbed the essence from the demons she had just slain and managed to obtain a portion of their memories from their fragmentary souls.
She discovered the existence of tribes and Three Demon Cities in this plane as she realized that this floor might be more extraordinary than any of them thought.
Although they were already having contact with the embryonic forms of civilizations in the upper floor, they didn’t expect that it’d directly exist here and even developed to such mature stages.
Sunirae was surprised at this huge chunk of new information as she browsed through them with relish.
The discovery of the new made her feel excited but she also gradually realized the danger level of this place possessed.
Her body slowly absorbed and assimilated the energy she absorbed from the demons she killed this time while browsing through the memories. Unlike last time, the absorption was pretty slow due to the demons already having initial control of their mana attributes, as well as already possessing their own elements suited to them.
Albeit slow, she still managed to absorb them over time as she finished browsing and digesting the newly gained information.
