Chapter 67: Assault

Preview: The other demons at the scene were oblivious to the truth and ignorantly guarded the periphery in case an invader appeared. And not long after, noise of fighting and low growls echoed from the periphery where they guarded.

The decreased number of troops meant weakening of power. It meant that they had a hard time fending off the invaders. The small number of demons compared to before tried their best to cope before being overwhelmed.

They had no choice but to send someone to inform Sunirae and the Lords about the situation. Of course, Sunirae and the rest already noticed the commotion with their senses so they stopped communicating with the elves and hurried towards the source of the noise.

Blood fluttered as they splashed on the ground. Wounds accumulated on the bodies of demons who couldn’t get a proper rest after arriving at this new place. Due to their bloodthirsty nature, they didn’t shy away from battles but fatigue still accumulated.

“Zenolith!” Sunirae called out to the Magma Golem who was at the forefront of the battlefield. She was feeling hungry as she looked at the assailants. She had just barely finished adapting to this new place and in need of more energy to evolve.

An arrow flew in as Simnan shot with his bow. The arrow struck the demon who was attacking the subordinates of Sunirae and the rest but did not kill the demon. Due to the arrows' weak attack power, they couldn’t deal much damage, that was until the arrows were enhanced with elven magic by Fairheth.

“Huff.” Fairheth huffed as her low reserve mana was once again depleted and is now in a precarious situation. “Hurry, my weapon enchant won't last long.”

More arrows flew in as they caused a considerable amount of damage to the demons and most of them hit the vital spots, especially the eyes, blinding them. The combination of an excellent archer and genius magician made the two of them shine brightly in this dark battlefield.

“Whew.” Yhaele was impressed as he watched the two of them join the fight. He used to be a soldier so although he was unfamiliar with magic, he knew the technical difficulties of a bow. He knew how hard it was to pull multiple arrows in a short amount of time and shoot them with such accuracy.

The hard to predict trajectory made it difficult to read even for Yhaele as he remembered the sharpshooters in his team when he was still alive, although he’s still alive right now, but as a demon.

He raised his spear and joined the others in the battle as more screams echoed. Flames danced along the trajectory of his spear as he slashed and pierced his enemies. Blood and burnt pieces of flesh fell off the ground as their darkness was illuminated by flashing streaks.

A motor-like sound echoed in the darkness as it disappeared as quickly as it appeared. Shortly after, sounds of demons' confusion appeared as they died in a baffling manner, limbs torn and bellies cut open. They were eaten from the inside as Pendra showed how terrifying he was after his evolution.

Thick tree-like roots swam in the direction of the enemies as they drowned out all the other sounds. The tree roots surged and crushed all enemies in the path, while catching and crushing the demons with other roots. Sunirae was having fun rampaging as she rushed towards Zenolith and the rest. She didn’t want to lose the rest of her troops because it would make her a commander without an army.

Just then, shadows danced despite there being no light. The darkness stirred as the leader behind this operation appeared.

“Kikikiki, you actually found a helper? That's interesting but it would just make me stronger. Thank you for this much food!” Seron sarcastically sneered at the two unidentified beings that he was chasing for days. He was very curious about their taste that greatly tempted his senses. His instincts were telling him that he would be qualified to descend if he could eat the two of them.

More darkness stirred as they formed a spear held in Seron’s hands. He was a Shadow Demon, a demon who uses shadows and darkness as weapons. He was born as a Level 3 Demons and was from the noble family that rules Darkstone City thus he was confident he could kill all the enemies in front.

Though he felt quite strange about the three unusual demons with distinct characteristics, he didn't pay much attention to them as he looked at the demons around the place. He licked his lips as his slaughter began. Red and green blood sprayed whenever he drew his pitch-black spear and thuds followed.

Just then – a blazing strike came from the left and almost pierced him. “You bastard! How dare you kill the children!?” Yhaele angrily striked Seron as he thought about his troops. As the only one with human memories among the three, he was the only one with some form of lingering attachment. Especially after nurturing them and becoming comrades in battle.

He was specially mad seeing them get killed in droves as he hurriedly shifted the weight of his spear. He twisted his waist and turned the piercing motion into a slash, cutting the demon. But it wasn’t too effective as the Shadow Demon melted into darkness and transformed back into a humanoid form from a distance away.

“Not bad.” Seron licked his lips as he looked at the strong competitor in front. For him, eating a stronger demon would mean he would become stronger than just eating weak things. So he focused on the one in front of him as he gradually felt excited. His twisted smile never left his face as he closed in the distance between the two of them and they clashed.

More demons fell under Sunirae’s crushing, Pendra’s sawing and Simnan’s arrows but Seron did not notice. No, it was more correct to say he did not care. He did not care as his subordinates died as it would mean more food for him and he could always recruit new ones. This was what it meant to have noble blood. Bloodlines become important in lower floors as the demons gradually care about lineage.

Clang.. clang.. clang.. sounds of clashing echoed as they continued their fight intensely. Gradually, Yhaele’s head cooled down as he was reminded that he was a demon. That’s right, I am already a demon. There's no point in bringing up human emotions here, I would just get hurt and treated as an alien. I might as well use this facade to trick this demon in front of me to lower down his guard..

Yhaele thought as he showed expressions of anger and added more weight to his strikes. Thanks to this, Seron misunderstood that he was angry with his subordinates and sneered. “What, are you angry about your subordinates dying? Isn’t it good for you to have more food?”

Yhaele got angry at his remark but kept his calm. As Seron relaxed while talking, he showed a gap and Yhaele’s spear of trickery did not miss this opening.

“Kuack!” Screamed Seron out. He did not expect to be hit as his expression darkened and blood flowed from his side. He immediately dispersed into darkness and appeared in another place.
