Chapter 47: Power Up!

Chapter 47: Power Up!

Preview: “Let’s rest for now.” Sunirae said as she stood on the spot and waited for the battle about to unfold.

Grim and filthy energy surged throughout her roots as she sensed them. These were all the energies she absorbed and stored in the past.

Occasionally, she would make use of some of them in battle but she hasn't really absorbed and integrated them into her body. Just like her crude use of these energy back in the First Level by transforming and controlling her body slightly.

But this time, she is trying to think of a way to control these energies and make it hers. To make these untamed powers under her control and integrate in herself.

But she knew she was different. Most Low-Rank Demons would try to train and strengthen their bodies, bloodthirst and aura. But she had access to things like Magic and Mana from external sources. Thus, she didn’t know where to start.

Clumsily using her mental strength to control the surging mixture of mana and other energies, she tried making them go upstream. As they tried coming up towards her stem from the roots, she felt an acute pain as her control lessened and they dispersed back to the roots.

This is hard.. She thought painfully as she made another attempt and failed. The powers were too heavy and stubborn for her to control. Despite having partial control over them, they are still unwilling to be used that easily.

‘Grr, these damn things! I should just consume them and augment myself!’ she mutters softly as an idea strikes her. Yeah! Augmentation! Why didn’t I think of that?

She’s still a Low-Rank Demon and that means she couldn’t use spells. But as someone who could access and slightly control mana, she could augment herself!

She made another attempt. This time, she tried scattering the energies throughout her roots first. It was a slow process but it was successful. The tip of her roots darkened as they shone with luster they hadn’t had before.

“Yess!” She was happy as she could feel the power of those tips. They were slightly weaker than when she transformed but the increase in power still excited her. It made her feel that she’s getting closer to her goal of getting that power personally.

She continued scattering the energy as she augmented a tiny layer above her roots. It took longer this time as the battlefield was filled with chaos. The Magma Demons besieged the swamp where Ketus lived and managed to take them by surprise.

Who would have thought that the enemy who just retreated a while ago would come back and ambush them?

Yhaele stood in the frontlines as he looked at the swamp filled with Ketus. He felt an excruciating headache coming but knew that this was his chance.

He charged head first and shouted words of morale to the troops behind him. “Prepare for battle! Charge!!”

Even though he never led an army before, he still learned some tricks through participating in large-scale wars. He knew how important morale was and how important it was for commanders to personally enter the fray.

Dragging his spear across the ground, it produced sparks and flames from fiction as he charged towards a Ketus coming towards them. Roars echoed as both sides screamed to vent out their anger and determination to exterminate each other. Underworld fully showed its colors to all the participants this time as only darkness embraced their skies and a blood-red glow emitted from the ground.

Even the light emitted from flames and lava felt dim from the shouts and battle ringing out. Blood splashed as Yhaele stabbed his spear towards the eye of a Ketus. He immediately took out the spear and changed his movements. Twisting his waist, he spun around and hit the inside of the Ketus’ mouth that opened from roaring in pain.

The Ketus didn’t die as only the walls of the mouth were hit. But it still flew a few meters to the side and dragged a line with it on the ground as it crashed and tumbled.

Yhaele huffed as he felt his strength leaving his body and he entered the sea of chaos filled with both sides fighting. He tried to lessen his presence as much as possible and approached the Ketus from earlier.

The Ketus was confused as his perception was mixed with signals coming from fellow Ketus and Magma Golems. It didn't think much about it and lunged at the nearest golem.

Raising its sharp claws, its foot stomped on the ground as it jumped up and landed on the back of a golem. Its two tails constricted the golem’s arms, restricting movement.

“Kaa!” It roared in a domineering manner as though establishing its dominance and intimidating the other Magma Golems. Then it brought down its neck towards the head of the Magma Golem and bit its head. Searing white blood immediately flowed as the place where the eyes were originally located became empty. The Ketus felt pride and was about to repeat the same actions when something pierced it from.

“Kaa?!” A burning spear tip pierced the hole behind its back and burned its insides. It felt so much pain and loosened its grip on the Magma Golem. It was immediately raised high by the spear and was showcased throughout the battlefield.

The Ketus was crying out in pain as it was impaled from behind. There was no blood flowing out as they were all burned by the Soleis spear and the smell of roasted meat blew across the battlefield.

All participants stopped as they looked at this strange scene and their throats gulped and stomach twitching. They were inexplicably feeling hungry and scared as they looked at this terrifying scene.

The spear tip came out of the Ketus’ mouth and blood splashed towards Yhaele’s hideous face. “Ketus, if you don't surrender now, your fate shall end like this one.” With burning blood sizzling on Yhaele’s face, clacks sounded from his mandibles as his cruel words echoed.

The Ketus took a few seconds to consider everything before they bent their knees and lowered their heads on the ground. Their twin-tails rose to the air to express submission as they uniformly shouted. “The Ketus pledge their allegiance to the Lords.”
