Quest 4

The duo didn't deal with the fire until the next morning. Well after they used the fire to roast some gryphons to snack on, which tasted similar to roasted giant toad as well for some weird reason. For those who are interested, they had a taste that seemed like a mix between chicken and beef which is understandable considering what a gryphon even is. As to why toads taste like that, you'll have to ask the author. I'm just a narrator.

Fantasy food aside the fire was extinguished with some more bottles Scitus had and all of the ashes were gathered together. Scitus didn't have any empty magical sacks to use so they were forced to drag the ashes around in normal, large, and heavy sacks.

"Hey Scitus," Stercus said, trying to start a conversation.

"What is it?" Scitus replied accordingly.

"How many quests are left."

"Well, we still have to gather some mushrooms, grasses, and dragon scales. So three left."

"How much grass?"

"About a handful."

Stercus bent down and plucked a handful of grass from the ground.

"Alright, two quests left."

"So Coworker, do you have any idea where mushrooms are found?"

"No idea."

"They grow near dead things. And do you know where dragon scales are found?"

"Nope."

"They are found on dragons. So do you know how we could find both?"

"A dead dragon?"

"Exactly! But since there aren't any dead dragons here we'll need to improvise. Time to kill a dragon coworker."

This was a really bad idea. Dragons are a class of animals comprised of the most powerful species on the planet in terms of base stats. They are born with immense Strength and Speed stats and are the only species that are born with a Mental Strength stat. While not all of them are carnivorous they are very skilled in magic and are quite hard to kill, especially if you are a dumb 11-year-old whose only assistance is another dumb 11-year-old.

Unfortunately, they are dumb 11-year-olds.

"Let's kill a dragon," Stercus says as he makes one of the greatest mistakes in his life. Then again I'm pretty sure someone this stupid would make dumber decisions later, but this is still dumb. "Where do we find a dragon though?"

This tale has been unlawfully lifted from Royal Road. If you spot it on Amazon, please report it.

"Maybe in that cave over there," Scitus said as she pointed to a cave that was apparently there the whole time.

"Well let's check it out," Stercus said as he ditched his sack of ashes and ran into the cave.

"Wait up," Scitus said as she did the same.

The cave was spacious with stalactites and stalagmites decorating the space. Water dripped from the dark spaces on the ceiling, making a sound that sounded like footsteps walking through the cave. Large bats tried to attack but they were easier to destroy than the gryphons and gave less experience as well.

"Wait coworker," Scitus said. "Light the bats on fire. A dragon would like the smell of burning flesh after all. I have no idea why."

"Okay," Stercus said as he shot the dead bat with a fireball. He then shot the other dead bats with some fireballs and waited for a dragon to appear.

They ended up waiting for quite a while until realizing a dragon won't appear. They decided to just carry the burning bats on sticks and walk further into the cave.

"DRAGON! DRAGON!" Stercus decided that yelling for it might bring it out, but with how smart dragons were it was actually likely this could scare it away. He still did it anyway.

Eventually, after about a mile of walking, they saw the large, green, spiky head of your average western-looking dragon. It had its head down and eyes closed as it snored greatly through its sleep. Its breaths felt like large winds as the duo tried to walk up to it.

"So how do we kill it?" Stercus held up his sword with murderous eyes.

"Hold on," Scitus said as she pulled out various MagiBoh bottles. "I have an idea."

She stuffed many of the bottles into the nostrils of the dragon, who seemed to be hardly bothered by an obstructed breathing surprisingly.

"All we have to do is blow it up and the dragon's head will be blown off. I've placed some of the most powerful bottles I have in there."

"Amazing," Stercus said with stars in his eyes. "How did you get them?"

"My dad's dumb, but he sure is strong. Especially if you draw on the walls, you don't want to do your drawing on such a perfect canvas with him around."

"Must be rough," Stercus replied. "Anyways it's time to kill this guy isn't it?"

"Yeah!" Scitus jumped up, ready to attack.

The dragon woke up.

"No!" Scitus stood back, ready to run.

The dragon let out a large roar, one so strong that the two kids were sent back a small bit. The dragon started to lift its head and looked at the duo running from it. They seemed annoying, and it was in a pissed off mood after it woke up, so it decided there was no harm in chasing them.

"Why are we running?" Stercus asks.

"We can't fight it in a cave-like this," Scitus said. "And besides I only have one more MagiBoh, and the spell inside is just a flash of light."

"Can I see that for a moment?"

"Sure," Scitus said as she handed the bottle to her coworker.

"Alright," Stercus said as he stood back and readied his arm to throw the bottle. "Time to distract this dragon!"

He threw the bottle towards the rushing dragon in order to blind it.

It was not very effective. It somehow fell into the dragon's open mouth and despite its fragility didn't even crack.

"Well that was a good idea while it lasted," Scitus said. "What now?"

"I could try to shoot it down," Stercus said as he ran backwards and shot fireballs at the dragon.

The dragon didn't even flinch when getting hit by these and it didn't leave much of a mark on it later.

"Nevermind," Stercus said. "I guess we could just run."

"Yeah," Scitus said with a nervous chuckle. "Let's just run."

The two wildly run out of the cave, through the forest, and towards their city, where they were instantly intercepted by the city guard. They didn't care as long as they were safe.
