Sanguisa and the assassin were on the twentieth floor, looking for the key anywhere on this floor. Well to be honest, it was really just the assassin looking as Sanguisa cared for a Daemonium doll she apparently had the entire time. The floor was filled with cardboard boxes, so many of them that they were stacked up to the killer ceiling. It was like a forest or jungle, but the trees were replaced with cardboard boxes. All of the boxes were simply stuffed with styrofoam, cotton balls, and other soft white things neither me or the author could bother to think of, with only one of them supposedly having the key inside.
So why were they here? A long while ago, well more like some minutes ago (this entire arc is just one day and I'm already exhausted), the assassin and Sanguisa were forced ahead of the Daemoniums. The assassin's plan in this moment was simple: just wait. He had a bit of a grasp on how the tower worked, and Daemonium would have to climb up eventually. Once he walked through the door, the assassin would be ready to shoot him in the head.
Sanguisa simply looked at the door with concern. She immediately realized that if Daemonium took a step into the room he would probably die. So what was she to do? She thought about for a bit, her brain aching from the intense thought.
"Wait!" Sanguisa grabbed the assassin anxiously. "Don't do this! You shouldn't do this!"
The assassin tilted his head, as if to ask why.
"Hold on a bit," was Sanguisa's response. "I need to think about it."
The assassin simply sighed and pointed his gun back at the door.
"This is so stupid!" Sanguisa was just frustrated, stomping on the ground with anger. "Doesn't this guy know what he did!? He can't teleport or make himself invisible, stand there and he'd die!"
This sentence is what changed the assassin's perspective. He wasn't one to trust others easily, especially when they showed some relation to the target. That included Sanguisa, and ignoring her advice to leave in the first place was the reason he was able to get so close to Daemonium in the first place. So it was clear that this vampire would lie if it was in an attempt to get him away from Daemonium, so what's to say she wasn't doing it now? They were waiting awhile after all, what if the reason they were was because the half demon could teleport or turn invisible? Sure he wasn't the best at telling if a person was lying, but she was definitely lying right? The king was somehow ahead of him, right? He certainly wasn't overthinking it, right?
And that's why the assassin ended up moving on as fast as he could. While the previous floors were cake to him, this one was a bit difficult. The main issue was the sheer number of these boxes, which made him start to feel exhausted from looking. The presence of Sanguisa just being lazy didn't make it any better. It was a bit demoralizing after all, but he didn't want to give up on his target.
"Green Daemonium, Dead Daemonium, you have to stop fighting. We're almost on the next floor." Opening the door, the Daemoniums stepped into the box filled world. They were a bit intimidated by the number of them, but it seemed less deadly than the previous floor at least.
A case of literary theft: this tale is not rightfully on Amazon; if you see it, report the violation.
"Let's see what this floor has for us." Daemonium inspected the floor, looking around for the key. "Boxes, more boxes, styrofoam, cotton balls, more boxes, some white and soft stuff, Sanguisa, that assassin dude. This seems to be a normal room."
Daemonium stopped, basically frozen in fear as he saw the assassin. The assassin simply stared at him, mentally yelling at Sanguisa for lying to him, before pulling out his gun and getting ready to shoot.
"Wait!" Daemonium raised his hand, motioning the assassin to stop. "Before we do this yet again, can I do so-"
Bang!
Daemonium barely avoided it, almost convinced he would die at that moment.
"WAIT WAIT WAIT WAIT WAIT!" Daemonium grew quite concerned. "I know that we've done this so many times, but I don't think we need to start things so-"
Bang!
"Violently!"
Bang!
Bang!
"Please!? Can't I just-"
Bang!
Bang!
Bang!
"No?"
The assassin pulled out his assault rifile, pointing it straight at the half demon.
"Fine." Daemonium gave up. "Have it your way."
Before the assassin could fire the boxes all around him started to come down. The still unnamed golem crashed into them, and so it all came crashing down and flooded the room with white stuff that isn't inappropriate. The assassin was swept through this white stuff, dragged through it like a wave.
Daemonium stayed under the white stuff, burrowing through it like a mole. He didn't want to get up, afraid of the assassin that would potentially take advantage of this. He also couldn't get up, the unnamed golem clinging to him and basically making him drown because zhe was also scared.
Eventually he broke free from zhis grasp, and he just swam through the styrofoam like a fish. He saw a little gold shine glimmer through the styrofoam, and when he went closer and closer he found it: the key. All he had to do was go to the next floor and he'll be free.
He jumped out of the water, a key in his hand, a smile on his face, and a gun to the head.
Yeah, it seemed like the assassin was prepared for this, and got his gun ready for just the occassion. He probably would've killed Daemonium here too, if it weren't for that meddling Dead Daemonium. They kicked the gun out of the assassin's hand after leaping from the sea of white stuff like a shark. They then attempted to kick his head in, but the assassin submerged and swam away like an eel.
Daemonium anxiously swam towards the door, the assassin chasing him like a bloodthirsty shark. The assassin would repeatedly leapt above the white stuff, firing a couple of shots before diving back. Daemonium managed to dodge a few of them, blocking the others with the still unnamed golem that really need to get named already so that I can stop calling zhem that!
Daemonium threw zhem at the assassin, the assassin knocking zhem away like paper. Daemonium swam closer and closer, the door feeling as if it were a mile away. The assassin drew closer and closer, dread coming over Daemonium like a shark was slowly approaching, no, much worse. He knew what it felt like to get chased by a shark, yet somehow this felt more oppressive and life threatening, no matter how many times he went through it.
But the door was not too far away. With a little push he was finally able to make it, finally able to reach the door. That little triumph didn't feel like much of one, as he fiddled with the key desperately in his bid to get it open, but it succeeded and he was able to move on.
Daemonium opened the door, his mind expecting to be filled with the same relief he felt every time he opens the door and gets past this assassin. Not today though. Instead he just felt dread. He wondered if he was going to do this again. He asked himself if he would have to run from this assassin he didn't even know the name of. He never really worried about it much before, with his friends being there to calm any worries he had, but when he looked back this time, there was no one.
He forgot them all on the last floor.
