Apparently, one would need at least a 10 in each stat to be an adventurer, so Stercus ended up getting kicked out. Well, not really kicked out but more as he failed, but I don't think anyone cares about the schematics.
Most aspiring adventurers would have already known this though, but not Stercus. You see, his grandfather, Stercore Pauls (I knew we were going to use the shit name at some point) came from a wealthy aristocratic family, but lost all of his fortunes in an ordeal that sounds a bit too similar to JoJo part one. That left little Stershit (Why are the names like this?) to grow up in poverty. This world is especially rough towards the poor, so Stershit became an extra cautious man to protect the rest of his family. When his firstborn wanted to be an adventurer, he had no idea that it could result in his son's death. Upon learning about it, he was determined to make sure by any means possible his family could not be adventurers. He went a bit overboard though. He kept all of his children "homeschooled," which was really just blocking them off from as much of the outside world as he could. Most of the children never left the house even once after the death of Stercus's brother, nor have they ever seen their stats even once. He never accounted for little Stercus running away, but keeping their stats low had the unintended but beneficial (to him) consequence of stopping Stercus from even being able to apply.
TL;DR: Stercus's father is Stershit, literally.
Of course, due to his father's, umm..., whatever failing to teach is called, (maybe brain neglect or something). Anyways, because of that Stercus had no idea what the lady meant when she was talking about his 'stats' or 'status' or what-not. In fact, he never even heard the word status until now, which made him wonder.
"Status," he said, questioning the word's definition.
Suddenly, a large blue screen of sorts blocked his vision, detailing many things that the young Stercus had no idea what meant. Were these the stats the lady talked about? And what did they mean? Such questions buzzed around his mind.
Intelligence increased +1 due to special action!
You see, level ups weren't the only way to gain stats. Stats were just a measure of abilities already there; they don't determine the strength of attributes but represent them. Thus, they can be increased the same way you would do so in real life. If you want strength, lift weights. If you want speed, run a marathon. If you want intelligence, stop being a damn moron.
For Stercus, this is actually his first time thinking really hard about a specific topic like this, so of course it raised a stat.
Stercus lept back in shock in seeing this appear. Quite similar to the shock one gets if a pig suddenly starts flying right in front of them. Or you find out Santa is real. Or when you die and end up in a fantasy world with no way to go home. Basically, it was as if the impossible was made possible.

"So, you've never seen your stats before or something?" A tall, lean girl with short, pink hair and covered tightly with green armor walked over after noticing him. She had hazelnut eyes, and for anyone who cares, an A-cup.
"Nope!" was the reply Stercus gave. He wasn't taught to not talk to strangers.
"Stop playing around," the girl said. "What does it say?"
"It isn't saying anything."
"Wait really!?" The woman jumped back. One's stats not communicating anything was an indicator of many diseases, and none of them were good. Upon the worst was one known as the Messiah's Curse, which would result in years of unbearable pain if it isn't treated quickly.
"Yeah, I can't hear it."
The woman facepalmed. "No, I meant you should READ it."
Stercus just looked confused. "What's a read?"
The woman just sighed. "Look, I can't joke around with you any longer. My party is looking for new members and I can't just leave them be."
"What's taking so long Krys?" A tall and bulky adventurer with brown armor and a large sword walked over.
"Nothing really," the pink-haired girl revealed to be Krys said. "It's just that a lot of people don't want to be in a party with you and this idiot distracted me."
"But why does no one want to adventure with me?" He looked at Krys with a sad face
"I don't know, maybe because you are so infamous there is a warning sign on the guild door about you."
Indeed there was. On the guild's door was a large sign with his picture on it that said "Beware of Pan" in big bold letters (in case you didn't guess, his name is Pan). Below were many accounts of traumatizing experiences with this guy, saying how they were scarred for life and were extremely lucky to get away.
"That sign exaggerated a bit," Pan said.
"I wouldn't say so."
"Anyways, what was that about an idiot?"
"This small guy has never even seen his stats before, he won't be useful."
"But no one else wants to join, right?"
"Correct."
"So we can probably just add him to the team."
"He can't even become an adventurer though."
"Then we'll just have to train him."
"He'll still be nowhere close to our levels."
"But beggars can't be choosers, and we don't have any other choices unfortunately."
"Fine," Krys sighed. Pan was right and everyone nearby would leave at the mere mention of joining the party. At least they were getting another member.
"Also," Pan added. "If this guy is as dumb as you say, is it possible he won't get traumatized when we do it?! It gets annoying when they leave afterward and act all shocked and scared because of it."
"Don't you dare."
"Do what?" Unfortunately, Stercus was very interested and his eyes were twinkling with excitement. "Can I try it?"
"Don't try," Krys said. "You really should just let me handle this."
"No no, I can handle it. My parents have said I'm a good judge of character, and my gut says he won't do anything bad!" Let me just say now, his parents lie to him quite often.
"Yeah bu-"
"Come on kid." Pan grabbed Stercus by the shoulder and dragged the boy with him away from the guild. "Let's go before this loser decides to break us up."
Stercus went with a smile, completely obvious to what was to happen next. The moment that was to happen next was going to be a harsh one, one that showed the cruel nature of this world, and one that showed he had a lot to learn. If any of you are worried, relax. It's not like he's going to get murdered, stabbed, raped or something, I'm sure of it. I think. Probably.
