Home... 4

A crack appeared on one of the many eggs. It grew bigger and bigger until the top of the egg completely broke open. Out of the egg, a new spider came into the world, and the first thing it saw was the six beaming eyes of another spider towering over it.

Our protagonist spider has never seen anything so adorable in her life. Technically she has, being a baby once herself, but she was too young to realize it. Now she was an adult, and as an adult, she can fully appreciate the cuteness. Personally, I wouldn't say the child was that cute, but definitely more adorable than the other spiders. Definitely... Probably...

That egg wasn't the only egg to hatch. More and more of the eggs burst open to let some newborns out. The spider, unable to control herself, scooped them all up into a big hug. The newborns looked like they could choke, but our spider couldn't see past their adorableness.

Luckily, before she could squeeze them to death, the rest of the crew came and stopped our spider here. Letting the children down, the spiders guided their young to their nest to rest. Meanwhile, our spider got chastised by her mother for not caring for children correctly. Apparently, creatures can die if they don't breathe. She certainly learned something that day.

She definitely understood the entire lecture. So much so that she wanted to go back to the nest and hug them yet again.

But she couldn't. She had to go and hunt slimes for the newborns.

Hunting slimes was a pain in the ass. Killing them was easy, but finding them was difficult. They would often hide between rocks and cracks, which makes reaching them incredibly hard. The process of tying them up with webs first before bringing them was also tedious. More than that, it was so uninteresting and boring it made her want to die. Dying was probably more fun! Slimes became liquid when they died, so it was necessary for taking them back. However, that didn't make it less boring.

So there she was, tying up slimes for a good part of the week. It was a while until she was allowed to stop and given a chance to watch the kids.

Her little brother was surprisingly good with children. Despite appearing to roughhouse with them, he would actually be more gentle and kind so they wouldn't get hurt. It was a surprising change in character that left our spider shocked. Not to be outdone, she gave some babies a piggyback ride and promised to show them something fun.

Unfortunately, her mom certainly didn't think cave exploring was fun.

Instead of grounding her, she got an extended slime hunting duty. She certainly didn't enjoy that.

----------------------------------------

So there our protagonist spider was. She was trying to fish out a slime that stuck itself into a deep crack in the ground. After putting her arm in as deep as possible, her only option was to try and reel it in by lowering a few webs. She pointed her abdomen at the crack, letting webs down slowly like string. She felt them touch the slime and pulled it up. Unfortunately, all she got was a slightly wet web.

She sighed and laid on her back. She'd rather be doing anything else, and this wasn't anything else. Thus, her brother jumped on her to try and play, and she actually played with him. He had to jump away for a bit because he thought this was an impostor.

Despite being overjoyed, he had to leave. He was with the hunting group and didn't have much time. Our spider decided to follow along since anything else was better than hunting the slime. No one was going to notice her anyway.

And that was a fucking lie.

Her mother was quite livid to see her there. Fortunately, our spider's brother was able to calm her. While she was still upset, she allowed it just this once. Our spider was only allowed to stay if she didn't wander off. Since she'd rather stay than go back to hunt slimes, she never even considered it.

The group climbed up the wall of the cave and travelled a long distance, only stopped after finding suitable prey. It was a large and scaly beast. Its long wings were similar to those of a bat, but it was surprising to think that something this large could fly. With its grey body and large head, it was easy to identify it as Scitus's Dragon. Named by a guy named Scitus (not the girl you know), this dragon is actually relatively harmless. It eats trees and is not aggressive at all, even when attacked. It often sleeps deep inside caves like this, with its size allowing potential predators to mistake it for more aggressive dragons.

Unfortunately, even those dragons get hunted by Large Cave Tarantulas.

Noticing that it was asleep, the spiders enacted their plan. Slowly and carefully, they wrapped webs all over it. The idea was to cripple it before they started attacking it. Even if the dragon could overpower them, the webs would at least slow it down.

Well, that was the idea until the ground started shaking.

The spiders thought it was an earthquake and tried to take cover. The dragon woke up and quickly flew away. The ground completely shattered and the large group fell to face a team of four adventurers. In a panic, one of them bit an adventurer's leg only to get squashed to death by a club.

The situation quickly went from bad to worse.
