Chapter 36: The Battle in the City

================================

“An Elder God?!”

“Just like that Siva?!”

“We must go!”

“I will be the chosen one!”

As these shouts went on, many people began their fights even before they arrive at the southern arena.

Then, to those who started the battle outside the arena, a message appeared in their visions.

City Lord’s Decree!

Fights are currently allowed in the streets but the final ten will only be chosen in the Southern Arena. Only those who placed their bets will have the chance to be part of the ten minions of Elder God Donar.

After seeing this, the enemies exchanged looks and then continued.

On the streets, business owners raised defensive mechanisms, barriers, and even offensive spells. No robbery shall be allowed while the decree is active!

From the outer prospective, the city seems to have been put into a chaotic anarchy but in closer inspection, seeing the intact city streets and tightly guarded, metal-walled, fully-armed booths and stores on the avenues gave full recognition to the ability of the City Lord.

It should be noted that although Warjillis is perhaps the smallest city in The North, the Hydra Society is still a superpower recognized globally.

Rentaw may have been the City Lord of Warjillis and is its Branch Manager, he was still just a small figure in the entire picture of the Hydra Society.

And yet, to be able to get his citizens to listen to his decree wholeheartedly is worthy to be called part of his sets of abilities.

In The North, to be recognized for one’s power is a great achievement in on itself.

On the other hand, the people inside the arena were all ecstatic for watching the grand show.

For the first time ever, hundreds of people were battling it out in the arena and although they were all allowed to place their bets to the most promising candidates, they still chose to place their bets on the famous characters of Battle City.

[Ladies and Gentlemen, we are now witnessing an unprecedented first in the history of Terroa. A grand Battle Royal for the best ten fighters of the city! The winners shall be gifted the rare opportunity to ascend as one of the Ten Acolytes of an Elder God! Place your bets now. Pick your team. Those who bet on the winners shall get a bonus 10% on their winnings!]

The lively voice of the announcer rung, the large holo-display above the arena displayed the top ten bets placed on the favorite characters to get the spot on the limited ten.

10) Namur

09) Angraecum

08) Bertrand

07) Melowdy

06) Ninety

05) Killdeer

04) Bladey

03) Zabrze

02) Debra

01) Heller

When the ones in the Southern Arena saw the name on the first rank, and even Ren and the always energetic announcer… as soon as they all saw the name on the first rank, they all gasped.

“He’s here?!” Ren felt alarmed.

Then, on his ear, the Director spoke in a flustered tone: “All his votes came from the 3rd Arena! As soon as the announcement was made, he revealed himself from the audience and 89% of the arena patrons all voted for him to win one of the slots!”

Even the infamously hot-tempered Namur and his Guild Master named Zabrze was only in the 10th and 3rd ranks respectively.

The rest of the names in the rankings were all of the Guild Masters in the city except perhaps from Bladey and Debra who both came from the Hydra Society branch of Battle City.

But Heller… he was a respected individual in Warjillis.

His was a name who dominated all the arenas. Even Zabrze who accomplished himself as a powerful Dark Wizard will have to think twice on a one on one match against him.

Why indeed? It is because Heller is not just any other ordinary Wizard… he was an Archmage…

One of the very, very… very few.

Regarding the bets and winning the gambles, there are actually four options for them to bet on:

* Who are the ten to join the Acolytes

* Who will be the one with the largest kill count

* What Guild or group has the largest members in the ten Acolytes

* Who will be the top one

Given these options, when Heller’s name appeared, a resounding sensation like that of a unified gasping of air could be felt from almost everyone in the Southern Arena.

When the number for these bet categories was shown on the global sphere, everyone thought that the betting system was malfunctioning.

That was the first thought but the second thought is actually denial.

If Heller joined the battle royal, then the results of this event will become too predictable.

Heller had dominated the ten arenas for an occasional while now. But every time he appeared by surprise, he always win. The reason why he can sneak in on every arena match is because each and every time he joined the matches, he always used a different name along with a different spell set.

It’s like he was a different person each time!

One time, there was even a showdown between Heller and Zabrze. At that time, Heller only used a set of magic spells that centered on a single element and even with that, he still won against Zabrze… albeit the fight was an exciting and flashy long duel.

“Heller is joining?!”

“Goodness me, this event had just attracted a real and authentic demon…”

“Hmp. Don’t forget that Donar is also fighting.”

“Should we bet on him too?”

“No. There’s no point betting on the instigator. He’s fighting there only because he wanted to hasten the determining of the winners.”

“But he’s a God! This is cheating!”

“Not when you think about it as him being part of the betting system!”

“Right! He’s just eliminating the weaker ones!”

“Mn. Mn. Did you forget the reason why he was here in Terroa in the first place? He’s here to take back his weapon’s copy that he gave to his apprentice who died on a War of Gods!”

This text was taken from Royal Road. Help the author by reading the original version there.

“But we can’t be sure if it’s real yet…”

“Real or not, Siva has that hammer and who knows if he can actually kill even Donar with that insane ability of his!”

“Right.

“That Killing Zone… he might even kill Donar with it.”

Everyone thought that when Siva faced Donar, this Elder God will face his annihilation.

Nothing escapes Siva’s Killing Zone and all this time, no one had yet to discover where Siva got this ability.

Even the possibility of it being a MOD was dismissed because MODs, when used, always emits aura light and Siva clearly doesn’t have aura lights when using that insane ability of his.

At first, the crowd became alarmed when Heller’s name joined the rankings of the ones in the list. But then, thinking about it, if he indeed joined the Ten Acolytes of Donar, then perhaps taking back the God Hammer in Siva’s hands will be a lot… easier.

Every soul in Terroa is wary of Siva. In fact, in some of the forums, many players had already began betting that if Gats, the acknowledged strongest player in Terroa, fought with Siva… the result will be Siva’s win.

But those are just hypotheses.

Siva was yet to meet and defeat the real strongest players of Terroa. Not to mention Hagrid who’s only just in the Top 1000 of millions of players, he hasn’t even met any of the Top 100 players and actually won against them.

To review who the people on that list are, one should just visit the official forum page of Terroa… a forum there has millions of posts and is always updated by the fanatics who bickered who the strongest players are in Terroa.

Donar, right now, to the audience of the Southern Arena, is a great challenge to the might that Siva had shown in the world.

He spoke of an anomaly and the bright-minded ones amongst the players present had already concluded that it’s one way or another connected to what happened in Dragona.

And also, since Donar had already announced that his purpose for coming into being is because he wanted to take back the Mjolnir in Siva’s hands, then a clash between them is indeed inevitable. The reason he was here, instigating this massive city-wide event, is because he wanted to make sure that he will succeed in this mission of his.

If it was a player who started this all, then he would have been chased to the ends of the world to pay for all the damages and deaths.

But Siva’s ploy, the way he made it, the way he had instilled the image of a God, and the way he actually managed to pin down that thought to every soul in this city… was ingeniously perfect!

It was so perfect, in fact, that Ren was worshipping him from head to toe.

Thinking about it, him, joining in the arena right now, has been justified as hastening the entire process of determining who will be joining his Ten Acolytes.

So Heller, being in the Ten, is also justified.

As it happened, the arena betters all began to think of these things one after another. And in time, with their thoughts changing, the rankings on the Global Sphere had also begun to make a change.

.

The changes in the names in the Global Sphere were now constantly switching.

Some famous names would appear and then at the next second, it will change again. The only constant names in there were the top five.

Meanwhile, more and more people poured their bets in the panel on Siva’s vision. By now, it easily reached a thousand in numbers and for whatever reason it may have, no matter who wins, the ultimate winner is still him.

Although on the other hand, amongst the thousands in the dead pool, only a handful had actually officially joined his loot inventory.

But seeing this, Siva was beaming from ear to ear and this was fueling his excitement to boil even hotter, in turn making his attacks faster and his aggressiveness more direful. He wasn’t greedy but he really needed these S-Class Equipments to complete his Black Tech Weapon project.

“I only needed two more.” He thought. “I’ve already given up on designing the third to fifth weapons so I will have to pick up the best compatible S-Ranked weapon to my grand design. My Black Tech will be the strongest ever!”

With these thoughts in mind, he brandished his God Hammer without care for anything.

Although it wasn’t needed, and given the degree of authority and deterrence he provided with his fake Godly identity, fighting the crowd who joined in on the dead pool can be said to be hastening the entire elimination process.

He joined the fight inside the arena because if he doesn’t, the total time for him to finish his upgrade would take a lot longer.

“I will use the remaining resources to upgrade the Dragunov and the Black Ender!”

With this thought, he fueled his desire to get stronger a little brighter than before.

“Everything is for the sake of protecting Baron.”

This was his sole reason for seeking strength!

It was his mantra…

It was his purpose…

It was all he had and thus he wouldn’t hold back!

He will destroy everything that stands on his way.

B-B-BAM! BOOM! B-BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!

The sound of weapons and bodies slamming against his God Hammer created a series of explosions. The Mjolnir is an unstoppable tool of slaughter, every person that’s successfully hit by it were either sent flying or smashed injured if not dead to the ground.

And every time the Mjolnir hit the arena, small craters will always remain.

Not only that, Siva had also discovered something that even surprised him.

“So it turns out I can use it this way as well…”

Siva held his hammer and just as it was about to hit a victim in the chest, he cast a Spark Grenade in his hand and released its stored energy.

A bright flash of light traveled from his hand to the God Hammer, a snaking lightning serpent was happily hissing on the material the God Hammer was made.

The hammer hit, the lightning was channeled, and the poor victim’s chest caved in, he was stunned.

Not even a fraction of a second later, Siva activated Hammer Blast and a loud explosion of air ended his suffering because he had no more defenses.

It was also one thing that he died alone but his body was blasted away towards two unlucky players who Siva followed suit with a descending lightning-induced Hammer of the Gods.

KASHAK!!

Lightning cracked upon contact and––

[Game Over]

“Ahahaha! This is the best!” Siva happily exclaimed and eyed the crowd for the next victim.

The surrounding players who had already cast their bets were starting to regret ever joining the arena.

Yes, Donar was alone and he had told them his body’s limits and who it was molded to. But that doesn’t mean his skills were also reduced to their level. He was, after all, still an Elder God.

“Unfair…”

“Huhuhuuuu… I don’t want to be one-hit killed!”

While others were lamenting in regret, others were already running away. But while there are those who put confidence in themselves and started to fight it out with Siva, there are others who’re unluckily becoming meat pastes on his God Hammer.

Siva stood there, resting for a bit, chasing his air as he then slowly turned his head towards the direction of his next victims.

He didn’t have any pretense to his intent. In his eyes can be seen pure intent to destroy everything in front of him.

Right now, he was bathing in this sensation.

Siva never wanted to let this unknown side of him to take over his mental faculties but he can’t help but wonder just how is it time and time again always making him stronger.

He wasn’t against becoming stronger but ever since he noticed the changes happening to his body, he was becoming more aware that these have something to do with the missing memories he had that has some sort of connection with Samantha.

“Those are later––” A grin with white teeth appeared on his lips behind his mask. “––this is now.”

BOOM!

“Uuurrrggh…!”

BOOM!

“Argh!”

BOOM!

“No, not me. Not m–gwaa–––SPLAT!!”

“Hahahahaha…!! Come on you mangey savages! I’ll introduce you to your maker! Bwahahaha!!”

BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!

Namur’s name constantly appeared on the Global Sphere but then, his slot was taken over and his name disappeared from the list.

The moment this happened, everyone gasped.

And yet, the name that replaced him…

“Coralline?” Ren’s face frowned. “She’s actually making an entry in these arena competitions? I thought she despised it as much as he did Cedric?”

Ren had long since known of what happened in the Southern Enchanters’ Temple and he took notice of the names involved in the incident.

“If she’s making her entrance, then this event will be taking a long turn for an interesting outcome.”

Contrary to the possible devastating results, Ren did not care if the sum-total force of Warjillis will be reduced by the death and defeat of all these S-Ranked Hunters.

Just as he was thinking about this, from the southern side of the arena, five pillars of light emerged out of nowhere and a giant magic circle appeared and filled an entire 20m wide area.

“Someone’s casting an AOE magic!” shouted the ones on that side.

The moment they began to notice it, the area around the magic circle began to emit a strong light. All the players started to run away from it but the time they used to think and then move took an entire 3 seconds.

It was enough for the casting time of the spell.

Coralline’s spell was already finished by the time they were able to reach the edge of the Magic Circle.

“Die!” a cute female voice shouted from above.

Following her declaration, the five pillars of light all glowed strongly as five images appeared in their midst that all pointed towards the sky. And then, the 20m area inside the Magic Circle was engulfed in a blinding strong light as a flash of lightning descended from the heavens and struck the magic circle below.

A loud thunderous explosion rattled the air, the wind rocked the players and obliterated over a dozen ones that were caught inside the Magic Circle.

Following the explosion, astonished looks were drawn on every player’s faces as even Siva and the ones he’s been fighting all stopped to look over on that side of the crowd.

“What happened?!”

“Just what kind of Magic is that?!”

“That… isn’t that Siva’s…”

“No! That’s not Siva’s magic!”

“If it’s not him, then who…?!”

The other players participating in the event all looked at that direction as well and they all thought that another God was actually descending in Warjillis.

But there was no God that descended, only a petite, young-looking girl with eye-catching looks and healthy chests wearing magenta themed Witch costume.

What is more attention-grabbing on her looks is the large hat resting on her head.

This witch hat looked like a misplaced umbrella on her head but although it was obviously too large for her size, it only made her look more like a Little Witch Queen than a cute-wanna-be super idol.

Her eyes showed no hint of innocence and her clever curves and adult charms only added more enticement to her petite fiery presence.

The hem of her skirt fluttered as she stood there on her broom, as she waved her hand many times to cast another one of that grand magic.

“Run!”

“She’s that Crazy Witch!”

“Don’t get caught! Run away from her!”
